    Hi!

    I'd like to thank all the people who voted for Superior at the 98's
    poll (I just saw the result at www.dreamtheater.net).
    This gives me hope that there are still people out there who enjoy
    our music.

    Thank you very much!

    Greetings ye 'jamanoids...

    Bafu wants to know:
    >AND is there anyone reading this who has the soundtrack to the movie "Tron?"
    >I've been looking for this soundtrack for a long time. I know DT didn't do any
    >of the songs on that soundtrack, but Ytsejam is full of people who remind me
    >of the Master Control Program, Flynn, Tron, Ram, heck you're all trapped in a
    >video game.

    It's out of print and to the best of my knowledge was only released for a
    VERY brief time on CD. Rumblings from when I was on the Tron mailing list
    (yes, there is such a thing) a few months back suggested that Disney was in
    the midst of remastering the material to rerelease it on CD. Or you could
    purchase the DVD edition which has the entire soundtrack separate.

    of their sweep-picked arpeggios".

    And I would have given Explorers Club and LTE the top spots. They are both awesome! I got them a couple of days ago, and now my mom knows the lyrics to all of the EC songs. I swear she could whistle "Chris and Kevin's excellent adventure"If she wanted to, as well as humming the entire "Paradigm Shift". And she's not the one listening!

    The rumors concerning DC leaving Royal Hunt is a load of shit....he has not been sacked and is still a full member - this info has been confirmed from a member of Royal Hunt. As for a new album well this news is also nonsense - as they haven't even entered the studio yet. They are all fully busy with their soloalbums (that is Andre, DC & Steen Mogensen - so you didn't know Steen was recording a soloalbum as well did you...?) and there is no plans yet to start recording.....

    In response to Neil's boasting of his record collection, I respond: HAH!! I own 39 of the listed albums. Some were acquired after I sent my entry so that's what I get for not buying every album upon it's availability. Not that I'd want to buy *every* album (especially not the horribly distasteful Offspring which turns my brain into a numb quivering bowl of Jell-O (c)) but you know what I mean. Only one of my more recent acquisitions might have made it into my top 5: Snowpony.

    Bafu finally made a statement that deserves a round of applause (clap, yay). OK that's enough. >is it ever accurate to say "xth notes at x bpm" without knowing [anything]

    Unfortunately, this is precisely what happens a majority of the time on the list. The confusion stems in determining what is accepted as the "beat." If you're tapping eighth notes with your foot, sixteenth notes with your air guitar fingers, and quarter notes with your head against a brick wall, you should be a drummer with brain damage. Without getting too theoretical, note values are an artificial construct for notational purposes only. Example being: You *could* write out Misty so that the first two notes ("Look at [me]") are sixteenth notes which would put the piece in 4/8 rather than 4/4. Or a better example: Mary had a little Lamb where each note was written as a 32nd note and therefore in the time signature 4/32. Of course the logic behind doing that escapes me, but it is possible. In the case of the latter example, the 32nd note would get the beat @~132 bpm depending on how quickly you want to get through the stupid piece. So all of this wasted space to reiterate that BPM by itself means nothing without some kind of referent. I'm glad to be of service. It's in B--oh wait, wrong discussion.

    Why thanks, Moo, you know all you need to do is ask :)

    Ok, now normally I'd agree with Brian (much as it pains me to :), but seeing as how Osmosis was conceived, written, composed and performed by guys much older than the Critical Age, I guess we can toss that theory back in the textbooks where it belongs, eh?

    /me bows :)

    Shit! That was almost DTC :) I'm slipping... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    In a previous post, I saw mention of something like "we are born without instinct". I don't claim to have more oxygenated blood flowing to my brain than anyone else, on this subject. I don't even know if anyone in the world is qualified to declare with certainty that it's instinct or not (it's all theory, pooch :), but I can relay the following hyper-embellished story:

    When one of my nephews was still quite tiny, a friend and I were walking him in the stroller on the sidewalk. I was perhaps 14 or so at the time and forgot to put the total mass restraining device around his waist. We come to the curb where the carriage is normally lowered via its back wheels only when proceeding from level 2 to level 1. Instead of tilting the carriage on its back wheels, my leaking skull mistakenly allowed the front wheels to lead this parade of impending doom. This produced a negative pitch angle about the child's axis of rotation and sent the tiny - and SEEMINGLY WITHOUT INSTINCT - infant airborne towards the cement. (relax: no one was harmed or tortured in the making of this story, except maybe the reader :)

    Now comes the time warp portion of this uncontrolled experiment, as about 1-2 seconds lasted minutes. I look over at this small but highly measureable mass of flesh and diaper, knowing full well I am out of reach to be able to do anything within the time constraints reality has handed to me this time around. Some will argue that fear may not be an instinct; but it certainly is one hell of a motivator! I began praying like no Shaolin Monk has ever dreamed it could on its best day, that the infant might attain a Master's Degree in a very short amount of time and allow itself to reshape the diaper, mid flight, produce lift and become aerodynamic.

    I believe I violated one of Newton's laws and fell back to Earth faster than baby did :)

    Much to my utter amazement and joy, its perfectly shaped, delicate, tiny, little hands reached out at the last instant of space and time as it was about to learn about the up and coming osmosis between it's skull and the pavemen. With the help of it's arms and the partially ripped 1" pythons, it broke the fall :)

    Tiny, little, innocent, adorable, drooling, smiling, defenseless unit looks up at us as if to say "That was COOL, one of those life experiences my sensor units are supposed to absorb like any other, right? At least it wasn't one of those where stupid elders make silly faces and sounds. Do they think I'm fucking stupid?" :) I ^5-ed my buddy knowing we had, through no luck of our own, escaped a manslaughter rap :)))) We began laughing uncontrollably...

    Oh yeah, the point? Hmmm..../me attempts real-time fabrication of one :)

    In those 1-2 seconds an infant doesn't have the luxury of trial/error to save its septum from saying hello to its cortex :) No, we hadn't done a controlled experiment months before, perhaps repeatedly tossing the baby towards injury and giving it little cheesy poofs (the good ones, the really fresh ones, the ones without preservatives) till it was finally conditioned to use the concept of self-preservation as a way to keep from going hungry (thus preserving itself :)

    Yeah, go ahead sociobiology major: call it the selfish gene theory. The species just wants to reproduce itself, so it must just be the self-preservation gene that "kicked in". Or perhaps it was just altruistic behavior. Yeah, that's it! It was doing this gig on spec, purely for our entertainment :)

    Sorry about the NDTC. I just enjoy writing sometimes and those rare opportunities to use words like 'utter', 'septum', 'poofs', 'warp' and 'manslaughter', 'blood' and 'real-time' in new and exciting ways....

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    And what would a post of mine be without OJFC (Obligatory Jon Finn Content)? :) Found the following at the end of his tour listing. It kinda puts the whole perfect/relative thing in its proper place:
    "Stay tuned. To be precise, A442. We know the world standard is A440. But we deal in reality. If we tune sharp (A442), the strings will stretch and go flat. After two hours, we'll be at A438. That averages out to A440. It sucks being this anal."
    :)
    Speaking of anal, I gotta go take a dump...lata
    Following the advice of our friend Chuck (the Eckstrey one), I got me some David Arkenstone. I already have 4 CDs, and while all the stuff is good, I highly recommend the Celtic Book of Days CD to anybody. This is real good stuff. I know everybody and their mother is doing celtic CDs but this is top notch if you're into that stuff. Of course there's no distorted guitars on sight, I just thought I'd warn you.
    Oh and rumours have it that Blaze will get booted from Iron Maiden... I hope they'll get somebody who's doing nothing like Michael Kiske and NOT Bruce, because Bruce is doing much better on his own :) But of course, I think money will talk and they'll just get Bruce back in the band.
    ^Christian wishes he had some DTC to post about.
    Well, I'll claim that, cause I'm a cocky asshole. Hmm, bad combination of terms. Anyhoo, every animal, including humans, is born with some sort of instinct. Think of it like a computer: instinct is the ROM chip. Then all the conditioning and teaching and experience is stored on the hard drive. There are some things that an infant will do without learning, such as sucking a tit.
    hi there, got my cd and although I was on the phone most of the time I'm very impressed. On Eve JP sounds SO good, that's a pleasure to listen to !
    I bought a Satch video the other day and I have to admitt he always keeps me going again. The first couple of songs where from CP and ok. Then he starts pulling some old stuff, but boy - he makes them better every time he play's them. Little embellishments which, when you're really into his melodies, give a kick so bis that I thought it would send me back home. Awesome, and I haven't even watched everything.(I expect it to be 2 1/2 hs or longer). Does anybody have a boot of the recent tour, yet?
    About two months ago somebvody was looking to form a band in NJ and I gave him my number and he never called. Are you still looking or is it quits or what?
