No worries. Everbody's favorite sellouts wouldn't give up making a good
buck or 12 here. Considering they are suddenly the pioneers of Symphonic
Metal, wot?
Of course, they couldn't write any /new/ songs for this bit now could they?

All the different colord sets are the same Tama Starclassic setup so i dont see how one can be better then the other....as far as the colors go i'd like to see his kit with the Tequila sunrise fade which Tama offers its goes from Red to Yellow.....peace out!

It was the small one. You could actually see em back there. he was at the front of the stage.

The Awake tour kit most definitely. Or just any one with the octobans. what an addition.

Hail people,
I just came across some more news regarding this huge metalfest that supposed to take place in the middle of March in Asbury Park, NJ (about 2 hours out of NYC).
Local dj's have been spouting names like COVENANT, RAGE, PRIMAL FEAR, SAXON (reunion w/ Bruce!!), SENTENCED, RUNNING WILD, ARCH ENEMY, DIMMU BORGIR, BLIND GUARDIAN (which is impossible but ya gotta believe!), ANNIHILATOR, VIRGIN STEELE, MANOWAR, CHILDREN OF BODOM (Hail!!!!), EDGE OF SANITY, MESHUGGAH(!!!), OLD MANS CHILD, NIGHT IN GALES, and a ton of others that I cannot remember right now....
Of course I find it extremely ironic that a few months ago I treated myself to a trip to the beyond legendary "Wacken Open Air Festival" in Germany...spent a few thousand dollars....travelled a few thousand miles...had a few thousand beers.......boarded a few thousand trains...and here it is that half the bands I saw at the festival last August might play right here in my backyard (NYC) :))
anyway....here's some hope that our shores will once again be invaded by metal! Glorious, glorious metal! Read the press release below......
cheers, Carlo (Fates)

Actually, Rik Emmett springs to mind as someone that fits this criteria. He actually feels like it's an advantage, because it puts his stronger hand on the fretboard. Plus, he can buy any guitar he wants. :) He's not exactly a speed demon, but his picking is pretty accurate.
I don't think the disadvantage is any greater than for someone who's a TOTAL righty - like me. :) My left hand is useful for typing, catching a baseball, and playing guitar. That's about it... :)

why are octobans so damn expensive? my brother was thinking of getting a set of octobans but at the local music store they cost $1000. His drumset was $1200... how can 4 small drums be worth almost the same as a 6-piece drumset? was the price we were quoted way too high, or is there something i don't know about octobans that makes it worth the money? moo.

If you think this idea rocks, check out the album XIII by the German band Rage. They sound much like TBA metallica, only they bring in an orchestra to assist them in making a kick ass album. Nothing like hearing power cellos with your power chords. They do a fun cover of Paint It Black by the Rolling Stones. This album is only available in Europe and Japan (and the occasional record store in the US that carries imports. I got mine from Laser's Edge. If Neil would have allows 6 albums in his Gallop Poll, this one would have been #6.

David Dixon said about Angra: << Good fucking call - I really don't like his voice, and I don't care for the band much, either. I've only heard a couple songs, and they certainly lacked the emotion that bands like DT and SX have....>>
I can't see how somebody can listen once to a couple songs from a band that has multi-layered, complex arrangements and say they "lack emotion". I was already familiar with Andre Matos's style of music from his Viper days, but every time Angra puts an album out I can't "get it" until I listen to the CD at least 3 times. If there is no emotion to "Make Believe", "Lisbon" and "Holy Land" I want to be a monkey in a clown suite. I think you are making the same mistake as people that listen to Metropolis once and say DT is all about technique and no emotion. I am not saying everyone is going to like Angra, just that their music, like Dream Theater, is not about "instanct gratification". Ok, I'll shut up now.
Christian.

Hi there jammers ]From what my metal past tells me Haven's Gate is/was (I don't quite know) a power/speed metal band from Germany, quite good I must say. For more info and after some digging over the net I found only one web page about the band: http://www.digital-design.de/limb-music/musiker/heavens_gate/inhalt_heavens_gate.html
Fuck Fuck Fuck Fuck!!!!!!!!! Different Stages hasn't come in Greece yet, not have I received my DTIFC welcome set (hopefully it will arrive soon with the christmas CD along, just praying). You at the States are fucking lucky, in contrast to us poor southeastern Europeans.

Does Howdy Doody have a wooden ass?! Of course it will result in a new disc! And I will probably buy it.
It would be cool if Metallica actually put in the effort to release ALL new material that including long, epic songs with a symphony, but that's not likely. The latest art form Metallica is working on is "making the most money for the least effort."
Expect a new Metallica release (after this symphony thing) to be a greatist hits disc, with a bonus track which is a remix of their latest cover tune. >:op

The price quoted is pretty much correct. Also up there in price: Congas. Which will run 2-3000 depending on quality. Drums are expensive.. drumsets are about the cheapest thing you can get.. which is why I have a set and not the set of congas and bongos I've been dreaming of.

Ok all you guitar fanatics, why I haven't I ever heard Ian Crichton mentioned here on the jam?
Didn't someone once say on the jam that there are those that love Saga and those that haven't heard Saga? Well, I'm listening now!
The first time I heard Images and Words, I thought this kinda sounds like that old band Saga, but I had never really listened to them, so I wasn't that familiar.
Now that I'm listening, I gotta say that if I listened to some mythical, generic Ian Crichton, and some mythical, generic John Petrucci, I wouldn't be able to tell them apart! The use of scales, flow from rhythm to lead runs, it's almost identical at times!
I've never seen any interviews where Petrucci says that Crichton was an influence, but I'd have to say that he was the single biggest influence to Petrucci's style that I've ever heard.
I think I'll be picking up more Saga...

I'm gonna have to join in hear with the Andre detractors. Normally I'm always quick to defend high pitched singers, but this guy sounds like King Diamond. Yah he can hit the notes but his voice has no resonance or power. That's my opinion, anyway.
