    Hey everyody!

I forgot to put this in my last post to the Ytsejam. Maybe it was the late
hour.. Anyway, I'm giving away one free Rudess disc to each of the regional
fanclubs. Please e-mail me as soon as possible if you want one. And of
course, I'll need proof, as I don't know too many beyond Neil Elliott and
Marco from Italy. Syrinx, you get one, too. It's my way of saying thanks
to the fanclubs for their hard work and cool Christmas CDs.

And also, as a reminder to the rest of you, I posted the Philly rendition of
"Different Strings" in its entirety on my website. Go to the URL below for
it.. the link to the file is at the top of the page so you don't have to dig
    for it. =)

    Hi Jammerz -

Yes, 'tis true. Ryan Whitaker's "The Rudess Experiment" hugely rocks. The
Rudess show is one of the clearest sounding soundboard recordings I've ever
heard (and I've heard quite a few), and the bonus material is awesome. This
is an extremely enjoyable boot.... and my god, the guitar/key interplay during
the end of TTT between JP and Jordan is out of this world!! Furthermore, the
cover and tray cards are simply beautiful... they look so close to
professional, it's scary. GREAT job, Ryan. Keep up the great work.

Which brings me to my next point... I just saw Ryan's post about the upcoming
"5 Days In a LiveTime" boot.... keep us posted, Ryan, I can't wait!! :-)

That's it for now. Back to watching football. Man, did the Falcons get hosed
on that fumble call in the first half of the SF game, or what?!?

    Laterz... Matt T.

i was listening on IAW for the guitar solo for Take the Time...i had a friend
listen to it, and he's convinced that the guitar solo is played on piano. my
question is the tab right with saying its guitar or keyboard ? and on the CD
im sure its guitar. does DS use a synthesizer on Take The Time ?

I was wondering if anyone has heard of this band and what this album sounds like. I wasn't sure if it was this band or another band called ZENO that has a fantastic keyboard player.

    thanks, Carlo

Well, I don't know what Zeno sounds like, but I do know that Zen sounds like a band that listend to I&W about a billion times and then decided to record their own "tribute" to it. Zen is not horrible, but I'd like something a little more original for my $15.

There seems to be something wrong with the server that hosts the Official Dream Theater website... Hopefully, things will be up and running soon. :-(

It looks like there won't be a newsletter either, this weekend (due to lack of news)... Oh yeah, there may be a few Platypus chats soon if the guys are up for it...

why does everyone knock dt clones? what's so bad about em? if everyone loves I&W, and another band releases the same kind of music, shouldn't we be happy that we get to hear more i&w-style music, since it's so great? i don't see why some people wish DT would go back to their i&w days, yet when another band does that they knock em and hate them. is there's something i'm missing? moo.

Well, in the case of Zen, it's very simple: the band sounds so much like they want to be DT that they put no original spin upon their music. Like I said, Zen isn't horrible, but their music is very derivitive and hardly original. I think I&W is among the ten best albums ever released, but that doesn't mean that I want to hear a hundred copies of it.

A band can be compared to DT, and perhaps you can see the influence (Ice Age, Dali's Dilemma, Zero Hour), but in the case of those bands they're putting an original spin on the music, adding something to it. That's what I was talking about. Perhaps this another one of those situations where I more or less stand on my own and am just talking to myself. This wouldn't be the first time for that...

I don't know if any other jammer will play in this concert in Verviers. I just say that you should go to the concert no matter what. They play all the songs you like ( Carry on, Nothing to Say, a 25 minute Carolina IV, Speed, Stand Away, etc ) plus Judas Priest hit "Paintkiller" and Maiden's "Wasted Years" and "Run to the hills" !! I'm sure we cannot meet there. I'm a brazilian metal fan. :) For those who like melodic metal i'll say again: look for an italian band called RHAPSODY, it's very good!!! ( don't give up until you feel the "power" of the songs ).

    No, DT didn't get any......

on the other hand, i was scaning a "complete" list of nominated artists in all categories (total just short of 100 or so), and in long form music video (i THINK it was that category), there was an entry of potential interest to some on this list, a little item called "TELEVOID", by Paul Speer, and some dude called Scott Rockenfeld......featuring Sir Mix-a-Lot, which might explain the grammy nomination

but anyway, this being a project that i was entirely unawares of, i might appreciate a clue as to what televoid was all about, and beware that if is has anything at all to do with the teletubbies, I will be likely to be found indulging myself in the act of shooting the messenger.......

    partha

p.s.: anybody ever see the movie "Heavenly Creatures"? stars Kate Winslet, directed by Peter Jackson, cool, albeit freaky flick.......

It hasn't been annouced yet, but look for the show to be at the last weekend of June (that was my last report). There will be a website (I've seen the rough design of it) promoting it. I know they are waiting for Bethleham's final confimration of the permit, as far as I know.

Buttermilk Biscuits! :) Hey, I /like/ Sir Mixalot, sorta. :)

Anywho, from what I know, Televoid is a little side project of Scott Rockenfield's. From what I know he did the Soundtrack for it. It's like a 3D animated movie I believe, something maybe 1/2 hour long. I've seen the DVD on sale at Costco for real cheap, but have yet to hear a review of it. As I remember on the cover the story was something about a TV set taking control of a guy's mind or something like that. hehehe. *shrugs* Yah, What else is new? Turn the channel, baby... Surf me...

As far as musical content, Scott's probably the oddest member of QR as far as that goes (from what I've noticed). Always coming up with strange ways to create new things. I'm thinking the soundtrack to Televoid is probably real spacey. Just like 9:28am. Real wacky, but still nifty nutters.

Maybe I'll just go pick it up and let you know. :) It sounds like The Mind's Eye on acid to me. -- KorgX3

    Hi all

some of the members of this esteemed forum are getting their knickers in a major twist because Metallica have announced they will be doing a show with an orchestra - sellout, sellout, what about Savatage and Symphony X? (What about Savatage?)

Some educated people have pointed to the great album XIII by Rage, which is a good tip. "Lingua Mortis" by the same band would also be a good tip. But my own personal recommendation would be that you mosey along to your friendly CD dealer, request that he inserts the album "Yeah! Yeah! Die! Die! A Black Metal Symphony In Deep C" by the Finnish band Waltari into the CD player, turn up the volume and enjoy a completely new listening experience. Very weird but excellent.

stay safe and happy listening Neil Gallop (nga@software-ag.de) Currently playing: Electric Wizard - Supercoven
