Good God, no. The problem with Yes is they are similar to Rush in the sense
that there were like in two eras: the old weird super proggy style, and the
more commercial, yet still ass-kicking modern style. People recommended
those above to me and I was like *cak cak*. If you like stuff that's not so
mind-bogglingly errant, I'd say go for Talk first, then 90125. Drama's not
too bad either... I still have problems listening to the earlier stuff. I
have shown each genre to all of my music loving friends and the consensus is
that Talk is a more comfortable album. I show them Close to the Edge and
they just look at me funny and say, "You sure do listen to some weirdass
    shit, man."

That's right, Pearl makes them as well. They're called "Cannon Toms". I = had two made for me last year. They are exactly like octobans, no = difference.

I remember reading that Mapex specially made those four toms for Mike on = his Awake set. At the beginning of his instructional video, when his drum = tech is putting his set together, you can obviously see they are shorter = than the set of high-pitched octobans.

I agree. I'm used to the way Simon Phillips octobans sound, and thats what confused me about the intro to 6:00. The shorter depth really affects the tone and make it sound like a high pitched tom.

    > > I saw VP on TV Live with Pantera recently. He was using DDrum triggers. No > Mics. Unless they are inside? He is a great drummer regardless.

I believe VP does use an internal mike system, at least he used to in the studio in conjuntion with other mikes placed about. He really gets a great sound.

Now that was just totally freakin stupid. jesus, you'd think people would have a little imagination.

I am BIG metallica fan, in fact they are my favorite band. but that doesn't mean that i can't enjoy poking fun at metallica. In fact, there's a funny as shit page called "Silence of the Sheep" (or something liek that) that is just cracks me up everytime i go.

    As for this page:

Number 1 fault: making fun of their name. that is probably the most unoriginal [and easy] thing you can do (Alternica, anyone?).

The cover was kidna retarded. The songs were really retarded. Although, some of the later Unforgivens were pretty funny, as well as "The Drums Aren't All I'm Banging". But "Bus Battered Bassist" was not only TOTALLY in bad taste, it was mindblowing to think that anyone could find that funny.

The interview was pretty stupid, although it had it's moments.

All in all, this was a waste of bandwith and my time. I really wish that if people are going to bash metallica, that they take a LITTLE time to try and make it funny. I apoligize to all those who had to sit through my rantings, but I thought they were in order.

    > I know this isn't DT content, but since Yes is a prog band and the members of this list seem to have an admiration for them, I thought I'd ask for a recommendation of Yes albums for a curious *potential* fan. I can't think of very many Yes songs that I've heard, so that's why I need recommendations. Thanks in advance

Wow... Yes is soooo... diverse a group. Where to start? Where did I start?.... "Union"!!! Yes!!! (no pun intended |-)... "Union" (IMHO) defines the whole of Yes because most of the musicians that have ever been in Yes are on this album. "Union" has some of the old, some of the new, some of the quiet slower stuff (i.e.. "The More We Live" the Floydish "Angkor Wat") and some of their harder stuff (i.e.. "Shock to the System" and "Miracle of Life"). If you listen for guitar styles like I do, it has some of Steve Howe's (early Yes, 70's classic stuff) style with "Masquerade" and some of Trever Rabin's (later 80's stuff) with "Dangerous". It is also very proggy (the coolest time changes ever heard by human ears, and some excellent harmonies! |-). "Union" is one of Yes' best albums IMHO. It also has the coolest Roger Dean album cover art! Unfortunately I missed this tour because of Military duties |-(. Get "Union" first, then, if you are interested, I would go for one of the more modern albums like "90125" (1983) (Now, I know you've heard something off this album: "Owner of a Lonely Heart", "Hold On", "Changes", "Leave It"); "Big Generator" (1987) (kindof a follow up to 90125); or "Talk" (1994) (One of my favorites). After one of these, or if you want to jump right into some the older classic stuff, I would get both of the "Keys to Ascension" double albums released in 1996 and 1997. These are by far the best collection of classic live stuff ever put out by the band. They also have new studio tracks on them that are really excellent because they were written and performed by the original members (Squire, Anderson, Howe, Wakeman, White). The new songs sound like a total evolution of the band, instead of the "modern" sound that Yes tried to get in the 80's (not that the 80's stuff was bad, just different). The album that I wasn't too pleased with (and haven't bought so far) is their new album called "Open Your Eyes". From what I've heard, they've kindof strayed from their "calling"... I would recommend OYE to only the most hard-core Yes fan, and then hesitantly... Well, I could babble on about Yes all day so I'll quit before I take up the whole JAM... Hope this helps.

Ok, im tired of everyone going "please mike this or that" , hey , its good enought LTE is playing a couple of dates, we all know 4 busy people with crazy shedules are hard to find time to do this, didnt all of you read the liners for LTE 1??! I mean the guy must feel pretty pissed off when he finds available dates to tour, and then having people ask him to tour whatever city ....im pretty sure that if the schedules wouldve fit they wouldve had more dates...i mean i feel we should be thankful for the ones they have, and happy for the people who get to see them.. and hopefull that good recordings will come out of the shows... not pestering Mp for more dates when im sure thats all they can do... -

NOOOOO!!! I think Drama is worse than Open Your Eyes! No Jon Anderson!?! Its not really Yes without Jon Anderson!!! I don't know of any singer who can CONTINUOUSLY sing that falsetto high tenor like Jon can and make it sound decent! Notice how lame the harmonies are on Drama, compared with... well ANY other Yes album.

Timbales?! I'm sorry but I can't hear Timbales at all in that intro. Timbales have quite a different sound than toms, more so than octobans. For reference check out the studio version of TAMP, I'm pretty sure Mike starts off that beat on his Timbales. OR think Tito Puene! yah!
