Maybe, but think about it; why are people like Hanson popular? Sure they've got some talent (they can sing, play drums, play guitar, do that scratch thing with vinyl and make it sound good), but they're mainly popular due to the fact that they're on MTV. Now, I don't think there's anything especially wrong with MTV, but I have nothing but contempt for pop acts like Hanson. I realize they're feel good music and that's cool with me, but there are a LOT of people out there who only bought their CD b/c that stupid song was on MTV and the radio a lot. Hell my ex-girlfriend bought Sarah McLachlan;s 'Surfacing' CD and only listens to "Building A Mystery". What's the point!? Can these people not think anything besides "Hit Machine" or what? I like a lot of popular stuff, but I have nothing but contempt for people who like popular stuff JUST BECAUSE it's popular. THEY AREN'T THINKING FOR THEMSELVES!

To whomever didn't know a good starting point for rap: Will Smith and his earlier group [JJaFP], Run DMC [remember It's Tricky, My Adidas, or You Be Illin'?], LL [Goin' Back to Cali], Chili Peppers [Blood Sugar Sex Magik is a great album!], and Ice T. I don't listen to as much as I used to; when I was in school, I was exposed to it more since I (white half-Jew-boy) was a minority in a primarily black public school system. I had the best time and was exposed to more eye-opening revelations about human relationships than if I had stayed in Delaware.

Had to comment here... "Tony Levin for LTE" struck me as ironic, considering we're talking about one of the most active prefessional bassists going. He's more noted for his work with King Crimson (and justifiably so), and for one of the finest bass albums I can think of, pick up Peter Gabriel's "Secret World Live."
And if you're picking up bass albums, and you don't have it already, it should be prerequisite that every bassist own Jaco Pastorius' "Birthday Concert." Those two, and UZEB's "World Tour '90" with Alain Caron (most likely would need to be imported from Canada), are probably the greatest bass albums I've had the pleasure of hearing.

Union?! UNION??? Jeezus Kryst on a crutch! That is one way to o it, but, even in opinions, that has to be the wrong way... And, dude -- Anderson Wakeman Howe Squire White isn't even the third lineup, let alone the original one.
There's two main versions of Yes -- pre Drama, and post Drama. Drama is an island to istelf, as the lineup never happened again *and* it didn't have Jon Anderson, the only good lyricist for Yes. Squire had delusions of grandeur when he wrote most of his stuff.
I suggest you buy Fragile -- a couple of Classic Rock radio songs on there (Roundabout and Long Distance Runaround), plus Heart of the Sunrise, which DT played the first few minutes of on their covers medely during the Awake tour (I believe).
Then, make a decision. If you like the more experimental stuff, by Close To The Edge. If you like the more straight-forward stuff, buy The Yes Album. After that, buy the album you didn't buy, then think about buying Tales From Topographic Oceans, but think hard, because you may or may not like it. I like it, but then, I'm laid-back like that.
My personal favorite album is Relayer -- the sound quality suffers from a lost master tape (so the CD is remastered from a 1st or 2nd gen copy) and mobile sound recording snafus, but the music is INCREDIBLE.
Remember, with old Yes, bigger is in their opinions usually better.

No... People only buy what's marketed. You can only buy what you know. We have a really kickass bakery here in town that makes the best bread on earth, but do you all buy it? No. Why? Probably first of all, you don't know it's there. Second of all, it would be hard for you to even get. Hence, why prog is so undergroung.
Don't blame the people. It's the buttmongers in charge of the media marketing that need the boot to the head. Although, there are alot of people who just won't like something simply because it's not popular. They need boots to the head, too. Remember RC cola? heheh. I don't think I need to explain.

I don't think any one whole genre sucks. But the majority of rap artists that do get a lot of press suck IMHO. I mean, every so often a band like The Fugees will come up and show you what rap is all about, but generally all a person gets is Fluff Daddy. I respect a LOT of rap artists and even listen to some of them, but I wouldn't say I like rap. But even tho I don't own a 2Pac CD, I wouldn't dismiss his talent. I can't write some of the stuff he did and to even try would be absurd. He made some seriously good stuff and even tho most of it isn't to my taste, I can't and won't say it sucks. Respecting a musical form and actually liking it can be two different things. I hope I've answered your question b/c I just realized how long and rambling my post is... :o)

I hear there's a great sounding verion of that tune on the album "Twilight In Olympus". Have you considered picking it up?

Being that I'm a huge Zeppelin fan, I feel I have to say that John Paul Jones is the best bassist ever IMHO. Bust out your copy (if you have one) of Led Zeppelin II and listen to "The Lemon Song". Some excellent bass work. Another great example is the live version of "Whole Lotta Love" featured on The Song Remains The Same film soundtrack. During Jimmy Page's theremin solo, Jones is throwing in all kinds of funk bass rhythms and whatnot. Everything, including the kitchen sink. Very impressive. Back to DT.

Well, yes, as a matter of fact, I have. However, being as short on funds as I am, I don't have the opportunity to buy it just yet. And I would like to be able to listen to them now. That doesn't mean that just because I have an MP3 of a band I'm not going to buy their CD. On the contrary, I have quite a few MP3s of music that I have on CD. But I don't see a problem with having a digitized copy of it either. Maybe I should have specified that I wasn't looking for a replacement to the purchased copy... But until I can afford the CD (they ARE imports, and thus more expensive, although CDNow has really dropped their prices recently), I'd like to be able to listen to them. The version of it that I have now is so poor in quality I can't even understand what words they're singing. Is it wrong for me to want that? Anybody else think so? I don't.
Flame away on the morals of owning MP3s of released material.

I don't find anything wrong with people being vocal about what they = like. (Thats kinda what this list is=20 about? no?) Anyway, its all a product of the upward spiral, if you = will, that DT has produced. Make=20 great music, get fans, fans show appreciation and a desire to see the = band, band gets this feedback and goes out of way to take care of fans above and beyond the call of = duty (Christmas CD's and such), fans realize their appreciation grows and so on and so on.... I'm = pretty sure if Mike read Juli's comment it did not piss him off.
