    You're quite welcome.
But now, I must take a moment to share with you the fact that I got a good
laugh at this. Go ahead and flame me; the people who know me on this list
will recognize my sense of humor.

But, if you'll allow me to debate your points above. You see, if you've
missed the past 50 jams or so, you'd have missed the fact that this "Ayame
Yuki" person has invited all the nasty things said his/her way. When you
run around on a mailing list of 1000+ claiming things to be true, yet you
have no proof of this other than your own word, you're inviting trouble.
When you verbally assault people for doubting your assertions, you deserve
    what you get. It doesn't matter if you're male or female (or otherwise);
young or old, native english speaking or not. It's that "Golden Rule" thing.

As for being female, it's sad to see some people crying "oppression" when
there's really no reason to. Yes, I realize the whole salary/promotion
inequities; I'm not here to debate that. I've been moved to devote one of
my 2 yearly posts to address this because I don't think a certain "Someone"
(or any other, ethereal someones) needs you to yell at them for no
wrongdoing. I am female, relatively young, and I used to be on the whole
"music business" track. (doubt it? I'll send you my transcripts) But, for
reasons of my own, I've decided to go down another road. It has NOTHING to
do with the fact that I'm femaly; it came mostly as a result of seeing
other friends, both male and female, floundering in their careers, being
unable to achieve that what they set out to do. It's not a gender issue. I
assure you, if I had kept at my music studies, and had become as good of a
musician as a certain "Someone"; I'd probably be flying down the road of
musical wellness, simply because I *am* female. I think, if you take a
moment to look around, you'll see that there are quite a few females in the
music industry: artists, producers, engineers, directors, entertainment
    lawyers, etc.

So please, don't cry "unfair" when there's no reason to do so. If you truly
believe your gender is a liability, then I feel sorry for you, because
you've come up against a personal hurdle. Just don't presume to speak for
all of us young/old, male/female, people/aliens on the list, because I
think everyone is mature enough here to have their own life.

It's all a matter of getting used to it! It's all a matter of WHAT is
    your concept for "normal".
USA folks complain, complain, complain and complain why they have to
drive 2 hours to see DT show, while I'm lucky that I even had the chance
to see DT coming "so close" - Budapest! Travelling thru 3 countries is
something you'll never experience! But you complain! Why? Because you're
used to see DT, and when they visit the neghbourhood village you freak
    out and curse!

Or complaints like: "Damn, I was driving for 20 minutes down the blocks
because the punk on the crossroads showed me the wrong direction to the
    gig!"

You US folks might not get it, but it sounds SO stupid to us! But,
you're used to it and you want more privilidges! I'm used to it and next
level toward fullfilling my dream would be DT coming few kilometers
lower. Or again Budapest, which I woulnd't complain about! And who
knows, by the time Petrucci's son start being special guest on DT gigs,
Skopje might become metropolis and I'll see DT in my home-town with my
grandkid riding my back on TTT!

Or we can speed the process! How about starting another war, in the only
ex-YU republic that didn't enter into war! That way, Pavvarotti, U2, and
maybe DT will visit us! And who knows, Savatage might write another
piece of art! Yo Greeks, c'mon o'er and call the Bulgarians and Serbs to
    join the party!

    Hey everyone,

I've posted an MP3 of Dream Theater's rendition of Since I've Been Loving You by Led Zeppelin from The Electric Factory, Philadelphia, PA -- 12/27/98 in the Audio section of Lines in the Sand. For those of you who don't have the URL, see my signature.

The only catch is you have to be registered to download it. But, registration is an _easy and quick_ process, and it makes the web site more interactive for the user. The big feature of registration is that you gain access to the Dream Theater Trading Post, which allows you to view lists of traders while viewing the tourography. But, hey, if none of this makes sense to you, just visit the damn site and figure out why a lot of people are excited about this web site.

    Enjoy the MP3, Bogie

    Hi y'all

Heheheheheh too funny! I never checked the url in the first place because (in the words of Nicky Lemons) I don't give a "Monkey's Ass!" I make my point (in this case it's not called flaming it's called defending someone I believe to have been attacked, which I don't HAVE to do, but feel I should) then I move on ....

Also the reason WHY the ladies are getting anywhere in the biz nowadays (myself included) is BECAUSE they stood up to those who put them down, carried on regardless (I like Carry On Films) and also just made sure they did things better.

hi there, Neil, I have that song on a live recording, but couldn't find it on a studio record. A couple of weeks ago I asked here if sb has the tab or knows where to find it - do YOU?

Matt, I disagree, the intro sounds too much like triplets, so I tend to go w/ Brad until somebody comes up with something that makes even more sense.

Chris, you don't have to be a monster to do something for the music, especially a song. I agree, learning to play like Jason Newsted might not take 10 years, but if you listen to his lines and a song you might get some insight. On the other hand watching and listening to Dave LaRue will push you in other dimensions if yoiu know what to take and apply to your own play.(Billy Sheehans Niacin IS new territory for him, though I might state.) Then there is TMS who is VERY capable, but keeps the groove straight and easy(on his own music). Not in disagreement, just a thought.

I heard people often reffering to 'the cream of the cream' musicians as CATS, especially among the bass players, and because you took it out of a context it sounds like a statement from a male shovinist. Maybe you should re-read that Chris' post and I'm pretty sure you'll notice you owe the guy an apology. Furthermore, I don't think the music business is being harder on female artists. If you look from a distance you'll notice that there are far more guys playing in bands and trying to make a living with it than girls. But the fact that girls are outnumbered once again doesn't mean that they are in any kind of inferior situation. I can't seem to figure out why girls feel so threatened in music business. If you'r good hon, you have as much chance of succeeding as the next guy.. er.. girl :)

I wouldn't know, I've never heard it. Of course I've heard (the song) "Ray Of Light", but of course that's not the same thing as hearing the actual album. It was a pretty cool song. I wanted to buy the album, but I'd be majorly shunned by my "I'm so hip" friends at school. But maybe it's worth it if it's REALLY good...

Some prominent women in music mentioned were:

    >Sheryl Crow, Alanis >Morissette, Jewel, Sarah McLachlan, Mariah Carey (who burst into BIGGER >prominence), Madonna (ditto for bigger prominence), Celine Dion, Gwen >Stefani, Shirley Manson

]From the list above, most of the women mentioned are the traditional sterotype of female solo singer or female singer fronting a band. They do not play MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS in public.

Sheryl Crow is the ONLY one (to my knowledge but I am sure there are others on the list who can enlighten me) who plays one or more instruments. I know she plays guitar and bass, both on her albums and live (mostly bass now I think from an interview I saw).

I haven't heard any music from Jewel or Sarah McLachlan and don't know if they play any instruments.

Madonna is credited as a co-writer and co-producer on her latest album, but has no credits for playing any instruments. She does not play any live to my knowledge.

Alanis Morissette plays harmonica on her first album and is credited with all the lyrics but the music is co-written. She has no credit for playing anything else.

Gwen Stefani fronts an actual BAND (No Doubt) as does Shirley Manson (Garbage) but neither APPEAR to play any instruments, they just sing. I don't have any of their albums, do they co-write?

Celine Dion and Mariah Carey are female solo vocal artists and do not APPEAR to play any instruments, although they write/co-write.

So where are all the prominent female MUSICIANS who play on their albums and live?
