You might wanna check your source for that. According to the last
internet chat, Alex has stated that there will be no (for now, at least)
    follow-up to Victor.

    Hey people!

If you want official *and* hot news (pun intended), go to the URL below --
    if you can read German...

If you can't, visit http://www.dreamtheater.net for the press release or
watch the Jam very carefully. I bet someone has posted this already (I'm in
digest mode) and I want to avoid duplicates.

Anyway, it has to do with Dream Theater and Jordan Rudess. Go figure.

Wow. What a shock. I must say that I was just getting used to the idea of having Derek as the keyboardist (I was really starting to like his style). It's really too bad that he's leaving. However, obtaining Jordan Rudess as DT's keyboardist (something that several people wondered why DT hadn't done in the first place) is a great career move for them. Rudess is a great choice IMO, though I haven't heard much of him at all. I support DT's decisions (not that it matters to them much anyway ;) ), and I am anxious to find out what additions Rudess is going to make when DT goes into the studios again next month.

Have you guys/gals ever tried listening to any DT with the plug-in for WinAMP called Pitchfork (or any other pitch bender)? If you'll just do it about 20%-25%, it makes LaBrie sound like a woman. Let me know what you think...

Well, I'm just a fan of all the keyboard players DT has had...Kev was the man, Derek did add a lot of "fun" to the visual side of a DT performance...but with Jordan, DT is just gonna rock! My predictions for the next DT album is for there to be some incredibly intricate PROGRESSIVE playing. As Syrinx has pointed out before, Derek was a rock keyboardist, in a prog band. I think Jordan will do a lot for OFB. For all those who did download that sound clip of Jordan playing TTT, you know what I'm talking about. The man is simply, insane.

I'm *very* interested in everyone elses opinions on this matter...

Huh? What? Please tell us this is an early April Fool's joke, Mike... I know Derek has always had mixed support from 'jammers, but everyone has to agree that Derek was a real contributor to DT's sound, especially live. Plus, as Al mentioned (and I've stated repeatedly in the past), he really brought a lot to their live performances in general - helping creating an environment of fun as well as musicianship. This is starting to sound like a eulogy or something, but I just need to vent.

I look forward to seeing what kind of contribution Jordan will bring to the band, but please let me see no cheering of Derek's departure - that would truly be in bad taste.

I was just about to add Phantom Blue to this discussion when I came across this message. However, I'd like to add that Phantom Blue's first album was the only one available on Shrapnel. Their second, _Built to Perform_, is on Geffen. That includes Karen Kreutzer on guitar instead of Couch, as well as Meldrum. It also includes a solo from Marty Friedman and another one from John Norum (who would become Michelle Meldrum's husband). None of the above three guitarists are in the band anymore; the guitarists are now Josephine (that's it) and Tina Wood. From what I can tell, they both rawk (they haven't done a whole lot with Tina Wood yet, but they've been in the studio). I _highly_ recommend this band to anyone who likes melodic hard rock/metal in the vain of Thin Lizzy and Black Sabbath (both of whom they've covered). For more information: www.phantomblue.com. (You can even get the above-mentioned Shrapnel debut release on CD there.)

As far as I can tell from the header it's 100% legit. And that REALLY pisses me off. Granted, Jordan is one hell of a keyboard player, but I've gotten used to the idea of Derek actually being a true member of DT, and it pisses me off to hear that he's out as much as I was with Kevin leaving. You guys wanna hear a NASTY female guitar player who is definitely better than Yngwie or even Petrucci? Check out the Great Kat. She graduated from Juliard with highest honors for her violin playing and then moved to guitar. She's pretty much a female Yngwie clone but she plays faster than anyone I've ever heard with the possible exception of Robert Fripp. The music is similar to Yngwie's as well. Paganini, Beethoven, Bach, etc. combined with metal guitar. Her official website is

    http://www.greatkat.com/

Check her out. It defnitely proves that males don't have some special natural gift that allows them to be WAY better on the guitar than women.

Grrr... I'd like to apologize for that stupid outburst. It's probably the last thing Mike and the gang would like to hear at this point, and it was just selfishness induced by shock that pressed the send button on that one. :) Although I disagree with it right now, I'm sure I'll get over it. hehehe. Jordan rules and I'm sure everyone had their reasons (perhaps some we don't want to know of) for the exchange. Now, with Jordan, let's see where DT will take us (but come on guys, you could have had TWO kickass keyboardists!) :D

    Greetings fellow Jamsters.

    Chris Ptacek:

I thought I'd let you know that your message about respecting all music genres did not fall on deaf ears. ..err, eyes. :) I have heard some Rap material I found entertaining; This doesn't mean I'm going to run out and purchase the newest CD from "Mookie & the Gansta Kilt Lifters" I'll simply tell people that some music is not my cup of tea.

    On the other hand...

90% of the Rap music my 16 year old daughter plays makes me want to hurl. Having a 16 year old female, hear in repetition "Youz bitches only gots one use" repulses me. But, since MTV says it's cool, she has accepted it as such. It makes it difficult for a parent to teach "Self esteem" when the commercial music industry is ramming this (word withheld) down her throat.

I'm not trying to jump on some morality band wagon, I just think there are some misguided fuckheads sending the wrong messages to today's youth.

If you call a flamingo a duck, enough times, sooner or later it's going to start quacking.

And when boyfriends start crooning their girlfriends with shit like: "You be just da right bitch to suck my dick" And the female on the receiving end of this rubbish responds with nothing other than a giggle, We are in trouble.

Music can be a big influence in peoples lives, this list is a prime example. Look what it's done to KorgX3, he started eating that grotesque Chunky Chicken KoRn Chowder crap. Because of that, several police investigators are baffled as to the origin of the burnt residue coating the remains of two victims of what has been presumed to be spontaneous combustion.

    On a lighter note:

Does anyone have any high-quality MP3's of gordion knot?

P.S. The daughter listens to a fair amount of prog, too. Unfortunately, NEVER when she has friends over. :-( Fucking peer pressure.

Far be it from me to peer into the twisted workings of Gaz's mind, but I'd guess he was being a wiseass to try to illustrate how stupid this "women in music" thread is. Women are just as talented as men musically, I could cite dozens of examples without cudgeling my brain.
