I wonder if the keyboard change will affect wether or not
Metropolis II is on the album, or if it will affect to composition of
it. Any ideas?

you all forgot the one and only:- (drum roll please)
KAREN CARPENTER
Huge influence on Mike P(DT) and Neil P(Rush). You can hear it in their
playing. You just ask them about their influences and they always cite her.
She was very rock'n'roll. She personified it. Lived, Breathed and Ate
it(well she could have done with eating a little more of it). heavy metal.

Hi there jammers
Has anyone mentioned that now that Derek is gone, Met. II will be recorded with
Jordan on keys? Imagine that. The ultimate experience.
Hey and another idea. Let's make Tony Levin an honourable member of DT. Then we could
say (and not being wrong) that LTE is performed by DT :)))))))) What about that.
Am I freaking or what??!!?!?!?!?

OK Folks,
It's been a while since I've posted, and I think I've become more a lurker
than anything else....But this deserves my attention.
Derek is a nice guy. He plays a mean keyboard. He's a Yankee fan. He even
has a funny little stage presence (although I think it's flat out gay!). But
let's not kid ourselves. Derek Sherinian is a rock keyboardist playing in a
progressive band. Plain and simple. Personally, I never liked FII anywhere
as much as I like the first three. It's a complete 360 in dirrection for
the band and although It's nice to see the band do a more subdued and less
intricate album, I prefer the older stuff. Who doesn't?? Find one Dream
Theater fan that loves FII over anything else they've done (and the one
asshole that pipes in to say that he does, just for the sake is gonna eat
fist) and you have an enigma.
The wording of Mike's statement makes it seem that Dream Theater let Derek
go. It's quite possible that Mike, John, John and James simply want to go
back to doing something like I&W. Can they do that with Derek????
Absolutely not!!! I refuse to believe that Derek is capable to write stuff
like Take the Time. Let's also remember that Derek has absolutely no tonal
diversity. I mean face it. The guy is pumping organ sounds through a Leslie.
That's it. Every so often he takes a distorted KevMo patch and changes it a
bit, so Dream Theater doesn't loose every ounce of the past. But it's a
fact...Derek doesn't play anything inovative. He doesn't sound inovative.
Although I love Derek's playing, I simply do not appreciate it in Dream
Theater.
Now let's get onto another possibility (although it's a bit unlikely).
Maybe Derek wanted out. Keep in mind that everyone else in the band is
married. Derek??? He's happily single. You wouldn't be far off the mark if
you said that he's a womanizer. Now, I'm not saying that's bad. I'm just
saying it's different. When four of the members in Dream Theater want to
focus on the music, and one other is pretty much focusing on the pair of
tits in the third row...you've got a problem. Maybe the combination of
DerKev wars and the lack of spread-eagle woman at DT shows was enough for
Derek to go 'That's it, I want out'.
Frankly, I welcome Jordan Ruddess into the band with open arms. His choice
of Keyboard sounds is stellar on LTE as well as his other stuff. His
intricate playing is top notch and his writing is extremely well thunk!!!!
Jordan Welcome!!!
Derek, now you can go fuck whoever you want and no one is going to get
pissed! :)

I just resubscribed to experience some of the aftermath of the recent news.
I apologize if this has already been discussed, but does anyone know how
much of the material for the next album is already written, hence how much
material JR is going to be writing? Met 2, as is well known, is already
(more or less) finished, but what about the other material?

I don't know how well this sits with me. While I don't deny that Rudess is a phenomenal keyboardist and will certainly fit in well with DT and their vision of '21st Century Prog', I liked what Derek brought to the band - not only his music (i.e. LitS), but his attitude as well. I think he was instrumental - no pun intended - in helping DT break out of their shell, so to speak. I guess my biggest fear is that DT will become more introverted with the replacement of their greatest extrovert. Not to mention the fact that I liked the direction that the band was going in, and I don't know what avenue they'll find themselves down now. LTE was great, don't get me wrong, and I can't wait for LTE II - but it wasn't DT, it was LTE. They're two separate things, and I, for one, would like to keep the two separate. I hope DT doesn't turn into LTE with Myung on bass and LaBrie on vocals.
Just my .02, for what it's worth.

I believe they'll probably use Met II... It has all been written and I doubt that Jordan will bring big additional changes in this.... As to the other music, UACM states that they'll be working ' a la LTE', meaning that they'll write and record the music more or less at the same time. This means that for Met II they'll do the same as with ACOS. ACOS was written with Kevin still in DT, and Derek just played Kevin's parts for the record... I do believe that the same thing happened for some FII songs. Some of them were already written before Derek became an official member. Is this true? And were the keyboard parts also finished yet, or did Derek write them afterwards? Other songs on FII were definitaly written while Derek was in the band (LiTS, Anna Lee)... But I don't know about NM or ToT... Anyway, it looks like Jordan will have a lot to say when it comes to the new album....

Oh well, if that would happen, it'd be a next step in DT's evolution... You said that you liked DT's new sound with the coming of Derek... What makes Jordan's joining any different? DT will sound different, sure enough, and if that sound HAPPENS to resemble LTE's, why would that make a difference? It'll be DT heading (yet) another direction... Face it... The KM days will NEVER come back. Even if a lot of people say that JR will bring back in some old school 'progness' into DT, it'll NEVER be the same as in the I&W or Awake days... So again, so what if we'll notice a lot of LTE influences into the 'new' DT? I even think that'd be logical in some ways...
On the other hand, I think a LTE III becomes highly unprobable:-)
Cheers

Don't count me dude! And I think it's REALLY DISGUSTING to see jammers bashing Derek on the way out! You're either naive adolescents or you're senseless!!! I heard some many STUPID reasons for like "He only copied Kevin"!!!???!!! That's the most stupid stuff I heard lately! :(
Without bashing Kevin or Jordan, I LOVE and PRAISE them:
Derek contribuiotn was great!!! FII is flat dead without Derek keys. And I just started to like those scific, cosmic sounds Derek was making!
What I think is that either Derek decided to leave by himself, OR something behind the curtain happened that fans won't find out in near future!
They're all humans after all, and who knows, maybe they had some nasty fight among themselves. Don't expect DT saying bad words on Derek. First it's bad and second it's not proffesional! So maybe they'll LIE about it but that's it! And I completely understand and support!
Anna Lee is Derek piece??? Wow, hats of to him! Awesome song!
Jordan is all OK, but I think jammers who expect next DT album to be like LTE are wrong! I think Jordan is softer! :) He surely CAN play prog and he is genius keyboard player but I think he is softer! I have the RPM and it's very good BUT it IS softer! By all this I mean that his style is softer. Maybe LTE was thought to be prog-shredder stuff by Mike and John, and Jordan could fit in great, but his stuff on RPM shows another side of him - the softer! :)
One idea is starting to bothering me: METROPOLIS PART II!!!! What will happen now with the piece??? :( Did DT recorded the studio version or not yet? Will they change it completely now when Jordan's in??? Maybe now they won't even release it! :(((
I support the jammers who said that DT owe us explanation! In order to save evreryone's time and especially the nerves of DT, maybe Mike Portnoy (or other from DT) can prepare a note and just forward it here!
And finally, I really didn't wonted to put this here but ... WARNING: Just my brain work, I hope it won't happen ever!
Mr. James Labrie! We alreday heard about man's solo project. We already heard his words about music he likes. And we know he tends to improve and in future do some real vocal stuff. And guys, prog is not that! I think that deep inside James is not much of a prog-fan! James gained certain reputation with DT. But he is human and he can't scream all his life + maybe he doesn't want either!
Possible conclusion = Labrie leaving DT some day???
Oh God, I hope not!!! :(
If that happenes DT should make a farewell tour and that's it folks! It was nice while it lasted!
Wow, that was really pesimistic of my side! And I sincerely apologize, but I just wrote what I think, just one simple IMHO!
DEREK RULES!!!!!! --

arrgh, why does everyone say that like it's a bad thing? "he's pretty cool, although i'm pretty sure he's gay..." first of all the stereotype is not very accurate, there's plenty of manly gay guys that can kick everyone's ass and straight guys that talk with a lisp and dress all fruity. you can NOT tell by how he looks or acts whether or not he's gay, and even if he announced that he was, so what? male, female, gay, straight, it has no effect on the music, the person, nothing. sorry if this doesn't apply to you but it soudned like this is how you think, if not, then it was aimed at the other people who've made similar comments. moo.

I personally would be flattered that so many people across the country wanted my band to stop and do a show for them. i think that's awesome and this is only an email, he's not calling him at home every night begging. If you weren't able to see the LTE tour, wouldn't you be upset and ask or beg them to make a stop somewhere close to where you are. I can almost guarantee it. It'll definatly be "proggier" than it was before, because Derek was always a bit hesitant to take keyboard leads (notice how many, or lack thereof, keyboard leads on FII as opposed to Kev's performance on "Awake", for example) and Jordan likes the keyboard leads. If anything, a mixture of "Awake" and "LTE" should be in order.
