DT album!
If you don't realise you exagerated - I'll kill myself! :)
So many jammers complained about FII, and I don't think the new DT will
SOOOOO different or being 2-nd Awake or anything similar. It'll be
something new but anyway more close to FII! Jordan is not someone who'll
change CXMPLEYELY the music DT make! Derek was not boss and they were
composing together and toward some goals or idea abotu their music
direction they ALL had! One person will not make too drastic change!
LTE was NEVER thought to be DT music! And vice versa! So don't fool
yourself by expecting "Second Paradigm Shift"

I wouldn't call LTE a Prog-Metal!?! It's just kinda stretch out, improvisational jams 'n stuff coming from awesome players who're not afraid to play time odds 'n breaks! But that doesn't title it as prog-metal!
And why folks keep saying that LTE is what DT LIKE to play? I'm sure (and I heard from them too) that DT have teir won way to go with the style they play. And that's ONE thing. LTE is one-night motel down that road! A project! Who stops DT to make the LTE music? No one! And no one can, since LTE are half DT (the bosses half)! :)
It's odd how folks make conclusions in the name of the band! Who are we to say "Yeah, DT want to do this, and not that!" :) THEY themsleves made the change after ACOS so OBVIOUSLY they want it! Stop asking the "good ol' DT"! --

You know, I've been relatively quiet about this whole Derek-no-longer-in-DT thing, but after reading some of the more idiotic posts, I have to make a few comments.
What is this thing about sexual orientation? First of all, I don't care how bright you think you are, you canNOT judge a person's sexual orientation by simply looking at him or her. And I know this because I happen to know A LOT of gay people (male and female) and, for the record, you wouldn't believe they were gay even if I had actual photographs to prove it.
Secondly, this thing about Derek being gay -- I'm not even going to address that issue because it's probably the silliest thing I've ever heard. So.... <SNIP>
Third, someone's sexual preference in no way affects his or her talent. For example, k.d. Lang, Melissa Ethridge... And, of course, let's not forget one of the BIGGEST heavy metal legends of all time: ROB HALFORD. 'Nuff said about that.
Lastly, what's a person in a prog band supposed to look like. Has anyone seen Trent Gardner? Doesn't exactly look like your "typical" prog musician to me. And yet, Magellan kicks ass. Go figure. What about King's X? If prog musicians are supposed to be young, long-haired white guys in tight leather pants (and believe me, there's nothing wrong with THAT! Hehe!), how do you explain them? And how come people weren't up in arms when Mike P and JLB cut their hair last year? It's kind of silly to worry about someone's hairstyle or wardrobe when the only thing that matters is the music. Dream Theater can come out on stage in chicken suits for all I care. It's all about the music and it will ALWAYS be about the music.
Anyhow, enough of my rambling. Go join Derek's mailing list already!! I'm not getting any younger here! :)

Hi all!
Now we have Derek replaced with Jordan, which is OK for me. But what will be the next steps? Is it going to be like this:
1) John Myung to be replaced by Tony Levin Portnoy + Petrucci + Rudess now think that they had so good time awhile LTE, that they want Tony instead of John. Then they have "all-prog" instrument-section.
2) James LaBrie to be kicked out. After a while those four musical genius think that their music has become so instrumental and progressive that there's no room for vocals. Good bye, James.
If this is the case I think, "Goodbye Dreamtheater".
IMO, DT now has it's perfect line-up we've been waiting for. And I really hope this was the last exchange.

I don't see this happening; after all, Derek came in and recorded ACOS after Kevin wrote the keyboard parts. We may not see it on the next album, possibly, but I think it will definitely be recorded, possibly as another EP or on the following album.

You know what I LOVE about Awake? The fact that it's done in a classical format. Some of you may be questioning my sanity right about now, but I have explained this to my composition/music theory teacher a couple of times, too. Regardless of what type of music is on the CD (which, by the way, I believe, is one of the top DT albums - although if you wanted me to rank them, I'd have trouble, since they're so different from each other), theformat of the CD is in a classical symphony style. There's a theme at the beginning, a theme in the middle, and a theme at the end. To explain, I feel the "beginning" of the CD are the songs 6:00, CiaW, and Innocence Faded. Then you have, in the middle, the "A Mind Beside Itself" suite, and then the end is from The Mirror on through. It's VERY close to the format a classical composer would write a full symphony. I love that.
A question: A friend of mine, a few years back, wrote a psychology paper on the lyrics to "Caught in a Web" and, while studying them, came to the conclusion that the song was about a stalker. Any thoughts? Has anybody from the band ever talked about what this particular song was about?

While this is not completely explanatory, it does seem to be a bit of stretch to get from this comment(by one the co-lyricists) to a story 'bout a stalker. Sounds more like someone fed up with living their life in a way that's expected of them. He/She finally says "Bugger off, y'all" and goes on being the person that he/she wants to be.
But that's just my quickly typed thoughts. the truth may be far, far away...But that's kinda one of the points of music isn't it? (As well as any other art form, for that matter.) The artist may have had one idea in mind...but when the work becomes public, it becomes open to interpretation by all who view it. Everyone will interpret it based on their own lives and therefore, there are probably as many different interpretations as there are observers.

How do you know Derek didn't decide to quit. Besides, Jordan was supposed to be the keyboardist for a long time now. Hopefully this will be a permanent arrangement (I HOPE I HOPE I HOPE!!!). I can't wait to hear what Metropolis Part II will sound like with Jordan on Keys!! UGgghh!! Well, whatever happens, DT will get my support until and even after the bitter end. They're a great band and deserve the respect and support of their fans through any of their tough decisions.

Do you have any idea how unlikely that is?! They're more likely to get a different singer before they ditch singing altogether. Instrumentals will only take you so far and then you need LYRICS, and someone to SING the LYRICS. I sure hope you were kidding or high drunk or something when you posted that.

One thing that has been mentioned a couple of times, and is wide-spread common knowledge: DS played with both KISS and Alice Cooper. Think about this...These are two the most OVER-THE-TOP, Flashiest, Glam-&-Slam stage shows in the history of Rock and Roll. Naturally, DS learned a thing or two about stage presence, showmanship, and theatrics from these acts. And these lessons are going to influence his style for the rest of his performing career. So it may not have been an ideal marriage when DT was on stage [i live in a very rural area and have yet to see DT perform live :-(((( ], but it is him -- nothing we can do about it but get over it; no sense in slamming him for being himself -- lest ye be slammed as well.
Oh one more thing: Prog Rock; prog metal; rock; heavy metal; pop;...what's the difference??? As i look over my CD collection and reflect on all the years i've been listening to and buying music, i can only see 3 categories of music: A. The stuff i like. B. The stuff i don't like. C. The stuff i haven't listened to yet.
