I don't see what the big problem is with Derek actually adding some
stage presence to DT. I mean, I'm not one to really care about stage
presence, because I'm a keyboardist, and I have just about none. but if
you go to something like an Yngwie concert (yes, I was an yngwie fan(no
I'm not anymore)), you get a good show put on for you, but at a DT show,
the band might as well just sit down and play. Not that that's a big
deal, because the crowd pretty much just stands there and watches them,
and might as well sit down too. that's probably due to the fact that the
crowd is just amazed by what they are doing. Well, anyway, just put in
    my 2 cents.

by the way, for those of you who were pissed that DT didn't come to
Jaxx, my band will be playing at Jaxx on Feb 18th. We are called Pitch
Blende. We should have an original or two written by then, but we will
probably play mainly DT covers, like CIAW, Metropolis, Mirror/Lie, and
    maybe PMU.

Ok, with the intention to break this hellish thread of Jordan vs
Kevin vs Derek and to bring more diversity to the 'jams, let talk about
    something off-topic:

It was me and TheCowGod talking about John Cage's 4'33"
composition. The performer remains in absolute silence for this amount of
time and he said that his band was going to play this song 4 times faster.

hi there, did you notice something? Mike is still reading the posts! I'll see you tonight!! Nobody mentioned Jens. Sorry man, Since I cannot possibly guess how the new DT will sound like I won't bash about the keyboard decision. They gotta make music together, not me. So Jordan - Jens, I "grew up"(although 24 I'd still consider myself a happy child) listening to Jens and Yngwie, Jens and Anders, Jens and Strato. I like Dixie Dregs, too, but... Anyway it became Jordan and I guess I'll just keep my ears open. I take credit to have introduced a 4th name to the key wars. My pleasure. By everybody, MIKE, I'll see you tonight! seb

Can't people just realized that whenever a band puts out an album there will be people that will like and people that will hate it?

Why are people so egocentric to think that if they don't like an album/song/picture/movie/book/whatever for of art that that's the absolute truth?

Can't you just realize that there are people with different tastes in the world? Some people like Metallica, some don't. Some people like Dream Theater, some don't. Some people like hot dog, some don't. Some people like computers, some don't. Do I need to cite more examples os is my point clear?

Just because you don't like something, I'm sorry to say, that means absolutely NOTHING.

Anyway, maX said that he don't like the "stupic closer" [sic]. And why say that like an absolute truth? I happen to agree with Zaphod. I think that the closer (which, if you don't know, is called "The Entertainer") gives the album an irreverent feel -- that is, if you think that only Derek Sherinian can bring fun to Dream Theater, you're not looking hard enough into what Jordan can come up with the other guys.

Again, back to the main topic of my message: please, people realize that different people have different choices because they've collected different experiences during their lives and no opinion is "righter" than any other. Be open minded and learn to respect other people's opinions.

Your posts reflect upon yourself. Be proud of them.

How about David Bottrill? He did one hell of a good job on THRAK by King Crimson and Tool's AEnima, and with Metropolis Part II going on the new album in all likelihood, they could perhaps use his dramatic production.

Coupled with Derek, in a forwarded letter, saying something like "I'm doing all right..."

It's my considered opinion that the rest of the band asked Derek to leave so they could bring Jordan in. I mean, it's obvious the rest of the band has wanted Jordan at the keys for years, and came to the conclusion that it was in their best long-term interest musically to part ways with Sherinian and go with Rudess. Is it f'ed up? Well, I feel bad for Derek, who's obviously put a lot of time and energy into DT, having to leave. But if the other four guys in the band aren't musically on track w/ him, it's not worth them keeping Derek around out of some sort of misguided duty while the music suffers.

Also, for the people who feel that Derek has been used up like so much tissue and tossed out, it's not as if DS didn't benefit from his years in DT. How many of you would be buying his solo album in May if he hadn't been w/ DT all of this time? For that matter, what are the chances he'd _have_ a solo album w/o his association with DT? His public awareness factor has gone up big time, and that's good for him.

All in all, I think that no one was particularly happy with this, but all of the members, hopefully including Derek, realised it was for the best of DT in the long run.

Not that I know what the hell I'm talking about ;)

Oh, and one last thing.... to the flaming inferno guy from hotmail... YOU HATE DEREK! WE _GET_ IT! So quit posting three times a 'jam to say how much of a faggot he is or that sort of bullshit. Man, I haven't been this irritated since the last Madsman/Bahr debates...
