You know...this brings up an interesting point. Why in the hell is DT still
playing PMU? I mean at every show it is played (with the exception of the
recent holiday shows), it is on I&W and live versions are on 5YIAL and LATM.
Personally, I hope they NEVER play this song again live. There is soooo much
good DT material that never (or hardly ever) gets played. I suppose I could
answer my own question. I know why they play it. At every show I have
attended or heard (thanks to the wonderful world of bootlegs), you hear some
idiot(s) yelling "Pull Me Under". When I hear this....all I can think is,
"you fucking loser...". I can't help it. Just my 2 cents worth.

When Dream Theater was in between singers, they at one point considered becoming an instrumental band... At least, that's what I remember reading back then.

Actually, to be technical, the closer has 2 parts. the first (slower) part always sounded like "Heart and Soul" to me. The second (fast circus) part is, I believe "Entry of the Gladiators" -- "The Entertainer" is a different song.

In your comparison of Jordan and Bird, you failed to mention NBA Championships. One of the two guys led his respective team to six championships, two three-peets to be exact. The other guy didn't. That tends to be an important factor. Look at Joe Montana and Dan Marino. Statisticaly, Dan Marino is the most talented quarterback to ever touch a football, (I hate the bastard, but give credit where credit is due). Montana won 4 superbowls and always came up with the big play when it was needed. The point of all this? Marino is statisticaly better, but he's a fuckin loser. (Not to say Bird is a loser, he rocks. He just didn't win as much as Jordan) Montana was a winner, much like Jordan.
On another note, DT could add Fred Flinstone as a bass/key/drum/whatever player, I would still buy their stuff. It doesn't matter. As far as Derik is concerned, the chemistry was gone. Those of us who were fortunate to see the Poughkeepsie show on 12/30 saw this right in front of oue eyes. That would be my 2 cents.....

Um...yes, I love KC. They're one of my all-time favorite bands. About prog-bass I was talking more prog-metal-DT-ish bass. Sorry for the confusion....
And yes, for the Love of God (Good song, too), I know KC is a prog band... Doesn't everyone???? :)
<<<<< > I think Myung is a LITTLE more prog than Tony.
Um...have you ever heard of King Crimson? They're only one of the most successful (and we're talking musically successful here) prog bands out there. Tony's played with them since 1981 or so and helped define their excellent post-70s sound. What's more, he's also been part of two "last name projects", the 80s reformation of Yes called Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe, and the Magna Carta "supergroup" project Bozzio Levin Stevens (which is, IMO, on a level equal to or higher than LTE). Both are/were inherently prog and inherently cool, in case you get a chance to check them out. Prog bass does NOT necessarily mean two-hand tapping and playing fireworks. Cases in point: Chris Squire, John Wetton, Greg Lake, and the man himself, Tony Levin. >>>>>

I'm 16. There's nothing wrong with that, is it? I haven't heard anyone complaining about my "silly" post's. He may be a jerk, what do I know? But don't say that everybody that are about his age are idiot's! Now that's stupid! And I don't think maturity would be a good thing to discuss on the Jam, just look at all the post's concerning Derek. Most of the writers are acting quite mature, don't you think?

I was just thinking something... I, like many of you, have E-Mailed Jordan to welcome him into the Dream Theater family. I really would like to think that "family" is the appropriate word.
Then it hit me... I can visualize Jordan, typing frantically in a feeble effort to reply to ALL the E-Mail he's receiving.. Watching in horror as his Inbox is filling up faster than his Outbox.
I'm thinking we could lay off a little. I'd hate to see his career cut short by carpal tunnel syndrome.

well, I've been behind on the 'Jams, so I guess I have to catch up on the flames here. Let's see, 'Jammers, Derek, Jordan, Jens, James, Kevin, and let's see who else, Elton......did I miss anyone? Don't tell me, I think I'll cover it here........
maX - go back to being a lurker.....it's much better that way....trust me.
mr. trumbo - you're a douchebag. spend more time obsessing over becoming remotely intelligent rather than obsessing over Derek.
mike portnoy - learn how to play drums for a REAL band, like Blind Melon, before you boss us around with where we can or cannot see you. Maybe *I* want to see you in East Bumblefuck. Have some respect for those Bumblefuckians on this list when doing tour dates..........sheesh!
john myung - goddammit, SPEAK for chrissake. I'm sick of the morse code tap-tap-tapping on that bass. voice is a much better medium of communication...
james labrie - watch your ass, buddy. keep singing with that tongue out of your mouth and I'm gonna give your caribou herd a barb-wire enema. Remember, just because you can SING doesn't mean you're a MUSICIAN.
jens - man, you got some nerve being on this list. Just cuz you can play keyboard while lying down underneath it smoking a cigarette doesn't mean you can be priveleged enough to be on this list, which is OBVIOUSLY a mecca for disgruntled virtuosos.
bernd - HA! you've disillusioned yourself to think that just because you started out as a jammer that you can be in a band! HA! between you and Mike of Division and Marcel in Lemur Voice, etc. I don't know which one is the most demented. My CAT can run circles around you with one foot nailed to the floor. Learn some twelfth-note runs, and THEN talk to us.
anyone else? I didn't think so........Everyone take their keyboards now and SMACK THEM AGAINST YOUR EMPTY SKULLS TWICE. Then look back and repeat the following after me:
1.) Derek is no longer in Dream Theater. 2.) Jordan is now in Dream Theater. 3.) Derek is not gay. 4.) Merlo is gay - in fact, "gay as a hootenanny" (TM) 5.) Derek's life will go on - so should mine. 6.) Dream Theater's life will go on - so should mine. 7.) DT stands for "Dream Theater" - LTE stands for "Liquid Tension Experiment" - the two do NOT go together. 8.) The new Dream Theater album will have great songs on it - I will buy it. 9.) I have more important things to do than to live my life vicariously through others. 10.) I reject Puff Daddy and all his creations, big and small. 11.) I'm sure Mike Bahr will agree.
