    Hei.

My boyfriend recently bought "Trial Of Singles" and we're wondering if it's an official promo, like it says on the cover, or a boot pretending to be a promo :-) The quality is superb, and it sure looks like a real thing. But why would a promo have the lyrics & comments straight from the official DT songbook on the net? Just because it's easy? The CD is a really good compilation of B-sides etc, and "Speak to me" is an absolute favourite of mine at the moment...

Someone mentioned buying the "Nighttown Nostalgia" boot. I bought it too, just because the stuff on 5YIAL video was so good. Good quality, and good graphics... just a few typos in the song titles, and totally missing "Goodbye yellow brick road" in the track listing. Love it when the band talks so much (altho' James uses too many F words :-) )! On the CD(s) itself the name is Nightshow Nostalgia, but I gather NightTOWN Nostalgia is the correct one... Hmm. Really worth the money (FIM 240) this one!

Greetings from the freezin' (-20C... - 50C in Lapland) Finland!

actually, I personally think if people just spent less time telling others what they should do and what they shouldn't do, especially Mr. Brian and Mr. Chris...perhaps they would find things that would be make their lives more worthwhile than their's are right now, which obviously isn't much if Silly little Top 10 lists that are just fun to make sometimes offend them to such a degree....just like they don't like reading the lists, others don't like reading their whines.

Yes, there is another DT list... The Mirror was created to fill the gap left behind when Voices died. Voices was a great list but, as I understand it, Charone (the moderator) lost access to the server that was hosting the list.

However, The Mirror *is moderated* (not censored) just as Voices was, so I'm sure it wouldn't meet the Ice Queen's standards. The difference between censoring and moderating is that I do not edit the content of anyone's post in any way... I only reject posts in their entirety if they do not meet the guidelines of the list.

The existing guidelines were suggested, and voted on by the early subscribers of The Mirror... so this isn't a case of one person coming up with a bunch of rules and expecting everyone to abide by them.

The Mirror was actually intended for hard-core DT fans... (by that I mean people that don't have to ask if their I&W disc is fucked up because PMU cuts off at the end, why Kevin left the band, etc.) basically the subscribers are expected to read the FAQ before asking questions. Of course most of them don't, and it does seem that there are quite a few DT newcomers on the list (probably the people Craig is referring to). Some of them do ask very elementary questions ("what does FII stand for?")... but the nice thing is that the oldtimers on the list have been very helpful, and (afaik) no one has been flamed or made to feel inferior because of their lack of DT knowledge. In fact the entire D/J debate was quite civil.

So if you can put up with a few silly questions, you might want to check out The Mirror. http://www.dreamt.org/ytsemirror/themirror.html

Or not. The choice is yours.

I don't post much, but I have a perspective to offer.

Mike has a point. This is the ultimate forum to say what you want about Dream Theater...Opinions are wonderful, but only when brought into the discussion with intelligence and maturity. Unfortunately, on this list (as with society), not everyone can hold their tounge from saying ridiculous things and insulting people. It is a good think Derek unsubbed when he did. No person should have to read the amazingly immature posts thrown his way.

One thing that has bothered me over the years are those that find it fun and amusing to bash the members of the band we are all here to enjoy together. It seems that some people loose sight of the fact that the members of DT are actual people. Somehow or another, the members of DT attain a mythical status, as if they don't really exist outside of the CD liners. The guys in DT are REAL, just like you and I, and certainly not deserving of all the shit that people say here. I suggest that we offer constructive criticism rather than attack them directly. We are here to celebrate the band, not drag them through mud. I'm sure they have learned to ignore all the innane rumors and bullshit that stream from people's fingers onto the jam, but for decency's sake, try to have some control over what you post. For instance, if you don't like Derek, say so. If you don't like his clothes, it doesn't matter much, but go ahead and post it. But don't say he is a fag, or a queer, or an asshole, or whatever. That kind of talk has no place in a public forum.

These things usually don't bother me too much, as I have seen it happen so many times in the past 4000 or so jams. But it seems to have been heightened as of late. Too many people think that they can say whatever they please...I don't think we need a list moderated by rules, but one moderated by common sense. And a list comprised of people without egos. The ytsejam is not life, so don't pretend it is.

To those that choose to unsubscribe, I am sorry to see you make that decision. There is some really good stuff on here, you just have to wade through the unimportant stuff to find it.

Cheers all. And thanks Mike, for sticking through this crap. You don't have to, but you do, and there are those of us that appreciate it.

    Jon

Let's see... I think the only one who should be nominated for that is you. Doesn't feel too good, does it?

The LAST thing the ytsejam needs is MORE people calling each other idiots and dumbasses, etc.

Right now, this list is really struggling with that. We have to end the trend. Brian has been the one slamming people really hard since the day I joined the list. I think the only reason he wants to do this is because he doesn't like Max Verran. You can all lay off him too.

And just so you know. I posted a message last night, saying he shouldn't call everyone assholes. "Suck me buddy" was his response. Maybe because I'm hotmail? No, I think he's just the jerk master.

Brian, I don't like you, but that doesn't matter. I'm just one person. What matters is that I don't think many jammers like you at all.

Personally, I don't think this is necessary at all. I've been on here for over five years, and it seems stuff like this goes around in circles.

When you have a list of as many people as are on here, there's bound to be flame-wars, stupid shit, etc. It seems as though this happens every 4 or 5 months or so, brought about by 3 or 4 (out of over 800, I think) individuals. That's really not a bad perecentage, if you ask me.

The problem here is that people need to read the guidelines set by Skadz for this list. We've had Top 10 lists on here at least 10-15 times in the past year or so. Someone did it correctly (emails were sent directly to him and he compiled them) and it turned out great.

The major problems that occur seem to be the following:

1.) Posting of Top 10/5/25/100 lists. 2.) Discussion of Metallica and the ensuing flamewars 3.) People posting 10-15 messages in a row instead of consolidating 4.) MIME/HTML postings

Another problem is the arguing on this list between two people. TWO PEOPLE, out of the hundreds on here. No one wants to listen to 2 people argue, so TAKE IT TO PRIVATE E-MAIL. It's simple. Don't post arguments on here for support from others, unless it's an issue that would affect a large majority of the Jammers (the Mike Bahr thing is kinda an example).

BTW, that light bulb thing was on here 15-20 times already. That's why I wished your fiery demise in the depths of Oblivion. Nothing personal....

I think by starting up new lists, etc. it dilutes the scope of the mailing list, and takes away from the whole purpose of a list. It's been tried before, and hasn't really done that well. Mailing lists for specific things, like the YtseTribute project, the YtseCons, and stuff like that is great. But having another Ytsejam just because things got a bit out of hand for the past two weeks really won't solve anything. If you think that the list you develop won't have the same problems, then you're mistaken.

I appreciate your attempts to make Dream Theater fans "all get along", but by un-subbing and trying to do your own thing isn't the way to go about it.

There's a reason why the Ytsejam Mailing List is still here after 6 or so years with this many people - because no matter how bad flame-wars get every now and then, the basic point that we're rabid DT fans stands out in the long run, and those that come by and start these stupid flame wars go away eventually.

Self-governance is a great thing. Think before you post. Know when a thread or flamewar or something in general is out of hand. Follow these simple things, and your life in general will be successful, not only the Ytsejam.
