Brian, you're starting to piss me off!!! Pick a personality would ya? :)

    j/k - Brian knows I'm kidding.

    > First, a general apology to the jam. I got frustrated and blew my stack.

Hmmm, seems like someone has taken that seemingly oh so difficult first
step. God, Brian, and here I went I thought you were an asshole...

    "voices discussssssssssssssssing maaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy" :))))

Some comments, in general, on the maintainer of this list:

Ryan has been taking care of this list for quite a while now. If it's
not enough that we should have respect for Mike Portnoy (and any future
DT members <hint> <hint> who may consider dropping by and check out what
the place is all about), let's consider the EFFORT that Ryan has put
into making this list work. And I think it most definitely WORKS! Thanks
for sticking it out over the years, Ryan! A wuss would have just said
"SCREW IT! Somebody else take the list over". Ryan didn't punt...

The uptime has been pretty damn good over the years, I'd have to say! He
gets a ton of mail each day that he has to process, isn't getting paid
for this at all (to my knowledge ;), and keeps the list running pretty
smoothly. Don't see many unsolicited adverstisements on here, for
example, and if you do it's gone pretty quickly. He follows a lot of
commonly accepted guidelines that have been proven to work the best so
far in many an electronic forum. I don't get the feeling Ryan has had to
post like he did earlier, all

Think you can do it better, go for it, nobody's stopping you. He makes
the rules for THIS list. Don't like it, you know where the door is. You
walk into a place someone else owns, you show respect!

I've been here a few years...I along with a lot of people I remember
being here when I first joined, I'll stick it out :)

    Simon John Dodd:
    > style. To be honest, I'm glad I missed the Kev/Derek wars, 'cos I
    > never saw what the big deal with Kev was.

Ok, PERFECT example of what Ryan means by THINK BEFORE YOU POST:

DO NOT REPLY TO AND START "THAT" THREAD OVER THE ABOVE!!! This is bait
    that should not be taken!

Forward, never straight :), but forward!!!

    > I declare a race to see who's fastest to kick MY arse for some of the
    above.

Did I win? Did I win????

    Where's that confounded EOJ....

. but I have decided that any time someone asks a question about Ron Thal or Bumblefoot, you should ALL be subjected to the answer, in the vain hope that you might then be intrigued by the name and the legend of Ron Thal (http://www.bumblefoot.com ... click me... click me!) and visit his site and get his amazing cds! The album you seek is called Hermit. If you like Hermit you will probably shit through your nose over Bumblefoot's "Hands" album. That's his full band. Only available on the URL above. It features music that ranges from Pantera to the Peppers to Zappa to Rage Against the Machine, all while remaining completely THAL and filled with guitar bombastics that regularly reduce Bafu, Wacky, and myself to tears.

And I give Frederico Barbosa about 2-3 hours before his official unsubscription to the jam by Skadz. I don't think anyone CARES whether you like top 10 lists, Freddie, but Skadz just said no more. Buh bye!

If you were at this show, please e-mail me at uroborosss@aol.com and tell me.

It seems there were close to twenty people (maybe more) at TLA from this mailing list, and I was only aware of about eight or nine. That stinks. If security would stop tossing people out right after the encore songs, people from mailing lists could probably meet up in front of the stage and say "Hey! I know you! You're that guy! That guy with the long .sig file at the end of your posts! Etc.! Etc.!" Alas, at TLA the ushers were pretty barbaric and loud about everyone hanging around like fans of the band or music-lovers or something. Then once we were all outside the police came by, and were pretty barbaric and loud about non-police standing on the sidewalk, which I guess is a crime in Philadelphia.

It turns out that the lone man outside TLA who challenged the police with a powerful dose of Anti-Police Magic (also called "logic" outside Philadelphia) is on this list. Had I known who he was I probably would have photographed him calmly conversing with the two really loud police officers so you could all see who he was and what sort of crowd was standing around waiting for him to be broken in half. Then I would have gotten my ass kicked for taking an illegal photograph on a police-only sidewalk by two really loud police officers. Or something. Anyway, in the future I'm going to mass e-mail the whole lot of you before shows so I know who's going to be there and who's not. Unless you're Mike Ostrich, in which case I'm just going to assume that you'll be at any concert I go to in the United States. ;)

King's X is coming up at Jaxx and Daytona's here in the central East Coast region. If you're going to be there, let me know so I can say, "Hey! I know you! You're that guy who told us all to fuck off! Fuck off and die because mailing lists are stupid! You got ten seconds to get outta here before me and Mike Ostrich flatten you like a fucking pancake, BOYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!"

These are comments that made me laugh really hard. -------- On another note (and I know I'm REALLY behind here), guess what arrived from FedEx yesterday? My copy of OiaLT. I know, I know, this thread is long since gone, but I do need to say how much I think it is abso-fucking fabulous. The whole thing. I just love every second of it. I dunno; maybe it's the fact that I know it's a live performance and I've been a performer for a while, or maybe I just don't understand what you guys were talking about, but I just don't see what you all meant when you said that KJLB sounded like shit in "Voices." He sounds fine to me, a LITTLE bit strained, but overall he sounds fine to me.

Anyway, I just think that this CD is probably a true representation of what Dream Theater really is. I find that it makes me really understand what it's like to be at a DT concert (since I have never been to one, not yet), and that it really gives me an idea of the nuance they put into their performances. My admiration for DT climbed several notches yesterday.

This may have been asked before, but I just got to the part in "Ytsejam" where Mike yelled out "Soybomb!" What the hell does THAT mean? -------- About the whole IceQueen thing: Really, I'd just back off. Personally I don't see anything wrong with ya. But others do. It really might just be smarter to lay off for a bit and let things cool down. That's the same problem that happened with Ayame - she just kept attacking and rebutting, and it got old after a bit. But I'm telling you: DON'T post those personal things to the 'jam. I'm sure that by now you've read all the warnings and other comments about what happens, and it's just not worth it. Posting somebody's flame to the 'jam is not only not cool, it's a public statement of something that should be personal. To me that just says that you can't deal with your personal problems. That's all I have to say about that. -------- About what Skadz said: For those of you who said that there was no rule saying that Top 10 lists were not allowed, now it's been officially commented on. If you didn't know it before, then now you do. 'Nuff said. Just for the record, *I* have written to every person requesting to be removed from the 'jam and told them how (although, they should have known it in the first place...). Just to puff up my feathers for a minute. :) Grats go out to all the others who do so as well. -------- Hasn't anybody noticed that in the beginning of "Trial of Tears" on Disc 2 that JP is playing those infamous five notes from the theme to "Close Encounters of the Third Kind?" I haven't seen anybody mention it so I think it's safe that nobody has talked about it. It's not in the liner notes... Neither is that Rebel March that is played before "Voices." (Oh, and that IS the official title to that piece by John Williams - For whomever was asking that on the list a few days ago.) Did anybody else notice this?

And that's my 36.278 cents for the day.

And considering how much I pay her to fly around the country beating up jammers in my place, she better be giving some pretty good beatings. :)

A couple of things. I want to clarify the top ten list thing, as I have in the past, but will again. Top XX Lists are fine as long as they are done correctly. By correctly, I mean this:

    a) Someone posts a message to the list saying "I want to know everyone's top XX deaf left-handed guitarists" b) The person who sends the message includes an address (whether it be there own or some sort of automated one) of WHERE to send submissions. c) The person states VERY specifically that submissions should be sent to that address and NOT the Ytsejam. d) After getting answers from people, the person then submits to the ytsejam a final results of the survey.

If done that way, I have NO problems with them. I just don't want to see what we saw in the last few days with everyone and anyone sending their lists to the jam, it ends up as clutter.

One other little nit-pick. Please try not to send messages to the jam like "I erased my last jam and need Bafu's email address" There are two things you can do here. First (REMEMBER THIS ;), archives of all the jams since DIGEST 2098 are available at:

    ftp://ftp.dreamt.org/pub/ytsejam/

Some day it will have some sort of cool search engine as well as a remailer (so you can have old jams mailed to you) attached, but for now, they are all there in text format for you to enjoy (or go find an email addresss from a jam you just erase). They are stored as ytsejam.XXXX, so if you need a specific jam, you can go to:

    ftp://ftp.dreamt.org/pub/ytsejam/ytsejam.4000

to read jam 4000, etc. Secondly, if you are still having problems for some reason, you can email me and I will look them up on the subscriber list. BEFORE anyone starts screaming about this, I will ONLY send people addresses that I know have been made pulic (aka the person has posted to the jam). If someone mails me and asks for an address that I haven't seen (or can't find in old jams), I am not going to give it out, don't worry.

Lastly, since Al mentioned something about subscribers. There are currently 1388 subscribers (800, hahaha ;) on the list. I need to do some cleanup, but it shouldn't knock it down too too much.

Once again, I will ask all of you to send your top 10 bands to ME personally with a "top 10" subject line, and NOT to the jam. I see this as an excellent way to get recommendations from other jammers, but we can still conform to ytsejam policy.

And to answer the question, LTE and others DO count in the polling. I say "besides DT" because 1) we all know DT is great, and 2) because people might be forced to place them 2nd or 3rd... The idea is to get ideas which will SUPPLEMENT DT for the readers, not rate them. Besides, we get more bands this way.

If anyone wishes to change or add to their votes, just e-mail me with "top 10 revised" or something like that as the subject.

    -----------------

Now that that's done, I would like to take this time to welcome KorgX3 back to the ytsejam, if indeed he is here to stay. There is hope yet!

    Dream Theater rules.
