Well this is on the right track. At the end of the day, the album could
come out in a bag of shit, and I wouldn't care. But then I do have one
of those shit-removing machines. ;-) I can hire it out to any of you if

    He-he! Cool comparition! :)

    > Excellent stuff, especially the live album "Between > Nothingness And Eternity".

No, no dude! That's stuff too heavy to handle! I would rather recommend "Inner Mounting Flame" or "Birds of Fire"! The craziest stuff you ever heard! "Speed jazz metal" comes to mind when I think of Inner Mounting Flame! :)

    > Go get it - I'm sure Mr. Portnoy would agree.

Yep he would, he said they were listing lots of Mahavishnu and similar stuff at Berkley!

    > Also, Jerry Goodman (violin) played with the Dixie Dregs for a > while,

Jerry Goodman is originally vilonist of a band called FLOCK! Anyone lookign for good music shoud check this band too! It's dificult defining it, kinda rock with jazzy ellements, and some other weird stuff for that time!

Heh, guess dueling wasn't invented by DT or Petrucci/Ruddes! McLaughlin/Goodman shred all over the place and if ya thought LTE does weird rhythm changes than check out Mahavishnu Orshestra! :) --

I too sent mike p. a copy of my LTE show, and cleared it with him if I could put mp3s up on the internet, which he graciously allowed me. What I do have a problem with however, is the fact that you're SELLING, not even attempting to trade, these CDs for $25!!!! If you're not making a profit on that...then the prices of CDRs are really high in your area. Personally, if someone doesn't have anything they can send me, I'll only "charge" them 10 dollars, which covers shipping and handling, a mailer, and the 2 cds. I do not want to make a profit off of LTE, and nor should you.

Okay. I care. But why was this sent to the list and not to private e-mail

And incidentally, a solo album is any album a member of a band does on his own, without the band. Slash's Snake Pit, Steve Morse's High Tension Wires, Timo Tolki's Classical Themes, etc.... but don't get hung up on it. It doesn't really mean that the person is doing all the writing, or anything like that (though that is often the case)... it's just something to say.

yeah, i agree with everybody else : why wont JM speak ? i mean, i know he's a quiet guy and all, but HOW does that guy communicate ? from what ive seen in the pics on the site, its like he's got this certain "look" and things just get done without the guy uttering a sound. he can move his hands like no body's business, but come on JM ! we'd like to see you speak! ( but, as a bassist, im pretty much as silent as the Raven, so well, i know why he wouldnt wanna say a thing : everybody else in the band *rarely* listens to the person who keeps the beat ( aka THE BASSIST ) , and i know everybody has had that day where the guitarist is totally pissing off everybody, or things just fall apart in that same exact measure and you just learn the song with that giant mistake, edit it out and adlib, and suddenly youve got a crowd of screaming fans. :) that's the way i see it, and that's how my band *came* to be.

Someone else's $0.02 coming your way...

Did I mention that Petrucci sucks...

    > practicing and stay out of "The Comfort Zone". But, its kind of an insult to > one's intellegence when you offer loads of praise and the response is "naaa, I > suck." Dont you think? Probably a better response would be "Gee, Thanks, but > > -Chris >

    > From: "TheCowGod" <demccor@clemson.edu> > awesome" and for a while i let it get to my head, then started setting > higher standards for myself. i think i can imagine why a good guitarist > would do the same. so it may be not only to make him keep practicing, but > also to keep himself from getting a big ego. i know i'd have to work to not > get a big ego if i was john p :) moo.

Actually, I think that Petrucci does suck. What I mean by thatis that he probably has standards and goals that he is not meeting. Personally, he definitely lives up to what I demand of him. What I demand of him is that he gives me a lot of great music for my $xx.xx. So far, he hasn't disappointed me. Well...that's not exactly true. I wanted to hear "Scarred" at the first of the 2 L.A. HOB shows last May, but I only heard it during sound check. Actually, I think I asked MP if they could play that. (I don't know if I posted to the jam or mailed him personally.) So, maybe I should blame MP for that. ;)

Anyway, back to musicians' sucking. I've had people tell me that I'm a good guitarist. Well, I'll tell you this much. I don't think so. I'm sure that most jammers wouldn't either. (So, they are never going to hear me play. It's not just that I suck, but I'm an introvert too. :)) Usually, the people who tell me I'm good don't really ever seem to listen to people that other guitarists, people on the jam, or other musicians would consider to be good. The people who have complimented me don't really even care about hearing the same amount of musicianship that I demand when I pay to see a live show or to buy a CD. They just want to enjoy a song, I guess.

So, anyway...I DO suck. I don't have the time or the patience to sit and practice for 10 hours a day for 10 years or whatever it takes to develop Vai/Satch/Petrucci chops. I just have a little fun playing my few stupid little songs. I also have standards, though, and they are pretty lofty when my lack of time is taken into account. I'm definitely not living up to them. Maybe if I can play "Scarred" to my satisfaction, I'll be happy, but that might take another 20 years.

I guess "let me sum up." I'm a shitty guitarist. JP thinks he sucks. Well, we're both right, but I'm more on-target than JP. ;)

Regarding JP being "tolerating". Well, whatever. I think that it's kind of a pain to be in a mass of people. I hate that. He's probably a better man than I in that regard. I'm over here sweating it out in the Philippines in school, wishing I was home in the States. There are just tons of people (about 70 million) crammed onto these tiny little islands. There are masses of people everywhere in Manila. I hate that. Sure, that may just be the nature of the 3rd World, but that doesn't change the fact that I hate being in masses of people. I think that's kind of stressful. Maybe for him it's kind of like that. I've never met anyone from a favorite band of mine, but I'll bet that those interactions have masses of people.

Perhaps, the psychologists among us might be able to shed some light on the issue, but if I'm not mistaken, over- crowding is something of a natural/instinctive stressor. Just imagine having gone up on stage for a couple of hours. You just cracked open a beer. You're on the way to the bus. You get stuck in a mass of people. Then, you have to go pee (Alcohol does have diuretic effects.) The stress of the crowding, the urge to break the seal. Geez...I'd definitely run for the door. :)

    > If we should ever do a petition again, it should be for > Metropolis 2, IF it isn't released........ > -Al

I don't know about the font petition, but I'll sign this one ifthat's the only way I'll get to hear Met, II. I don't care if DS or JR did the keys or if JR will re-record/re-work the keys parts.:) Actually, I hope that JR would be okay with Met. II.

    > As far as I know, the band has creative control over their albums, and > Strom's the way to go, IMHO. And if DT likes the font, were doomed to DEAL > WITH IT (of course, I like it too....) And yes, I&W does look far too 80's > for my personal taste - gotta love Mike in those sexy overalls... :) > > David Dixon, MCP

Personally, I dig all the art with the possible exception of theband pix on WDADU. The hair on those is incredible. I don't even believe that's OFB.;) It must be some impostors. Now THAT's 80's. Doesn't get much better on I&W. Petrucci's outfit is WOW...a true representative of the times. Speaking of representing the times...

I like the new fonts inasmuch as they seem to go with the covers. Of course, this is IMHO. Y'all can have yours. That's fine with me. Personally, I like what Storm Thorgerson (sp?) has done over the years. I'm willing to go along with it all. Storm Thorgerson has done most of my favorite album covers most of which are Floyd or Led Zep covers. If going along with what Thorgerson is doing is what is representative of where the band wants to go with their album covers, so be it. I think they could do a lot worse. Not that he hasn't skipped this whole post, but who knows... maybe MP and the the rest of OFB have always wanted to work with this guy, but never had the ability/status to do so before FII. Anything to say on the issue, MP?

Anyway, I hope for more Storm Thorgerson. Speaking of Storm, I want some more Pink Floyd too, but that is a story for another day.

    > I appreciate Dream Theater for the music, and look forward to the next > album, even though it would be nice to hear Raise the Knife with > -Rachel

I'd like to hear RtK. I'm kind of bummed that MP said that FIIouttakes would not be part of DT '99. That's too bad. I thought it was cool to hear it over the PA before my one DT concert. Maybe what we should do is petition MP to make his own mp3 site and to put RtK on there. :)

    > From: phumm@scientech.com > Subject: Re: solo albums

    > contributes to the songwriting and arranging, and each member has an > equal say in how the album is produced. It is a TEAM effort. (Well,

This is on-target. Personally, I don't really care what the definition of a "solo" album is. I think Sting poked fun at the idea of his "Dream of the Blue Turtles" album being called a "solo" album considering there were other musicians (some great ones too, IMHO). The thing I would like to do is to listen to whatever DS has up his sleeve for this album. It's probably going to feature more of DS' ideas, more of his playing, and much more of what he wants to do as an individual as opposed to what he was able to do as a part of DT. Sting probably wanted the same freedom when he did his first "solo" album, or, perhaps, he wanted to keep all the songwriting royalties for himself. ;)

Re: DT '99... Are there any estimates from the band about when the album will be out? Anyone know? As I said above. I'm stuck here overseas in the Philippines. I might be home in the States in October. Hopefully, the album will be out and they'll be touring. Maybe I'll get to see them in L.A. again.

    Anyway, enough rambling...enough wasted bandwidth.

This is a version of the arrangement of the famous tune "Fly Me to the Glass Moon." It was sung by a Frank Sinatra sound-alike (anybody know his name) and uses the lyrics, melody and much of the music (with a few horn parts thrown in there by a synth) from "Under a Glass Moon." I kinda like it, though I think it's a little corny.

man, everytime i read about the 'unspoken' John Myung it cracks me up. Everytime i have talked with him he comes across as very articulate and social. I don't see him as 'the quiet man.' He's not as 'extroverted' like maybe Mike but he's not as 'quiet' as most people think he is.

I'm willing to offer the same also for people that can't get ahold of the show or just want a cd of it. This stuff is just to good to pass up.

On another note, thanx to all who suggested getting the new Superior. I ordered it from the place formerly known as Knights of the Round ($12.99 + free shipping!!). While I don't have it yet I've been listening to the mp3s that are available on Superiors website (http://truemetal.org/superior/) almost nonstop whenever I'm at my computer. Very cool stuff. Can't wait to get the cd!

And a request....any opinions on Digital Ruin's Listen disk? I heard a couple samples at the same place I ordered Yoninque (www.moremetal.com) and I can't really make up my mind if I like it or not. I love concept albums and Operation:Mindcrime is one of my alltime favorites so in theory this should be cool. Any reviews would be great.

    Hi buddys

I don't use to write a lot in here, maybe one time per month. But this topic looks really interesting.

I don't know them but I know about other ones that looks like the Bafu's description.

For example, Dave Mustaine, I saw him on the Hard Rock in Buenos Aires, with all the members of the band. He and Marty Friedman sucks. They saw us, and he didn't said "hi" (in lower case) but Ellefson and the new drummer, wanted to talk with us, the manager didn't let them, but they show us some respect, the respect a fan needs.

I've read about INTRO AND OUTROVERTED, it's true and most of the big musicians are the first one.

But I'd meet ANGRA right after a show and they are quite cool. They have signed and talked, and they take some pictures with us. All of them (the drummer was so fucked up by the thing he had taken (smoked) before the show maybe he didn't know what was he doing)

If you know about Malmsteem or Blackmore they HATE everyone, even band members. And there are others like the guys from Stratovarius or Pantera, that doesn't care who the hell you are, but they like to be hanging with you.

It's like a job for someone and a "hobby" for some others. But if the fans don't exist they dissapear too.

And another thing I wanted to coment about is about Derek... I wanted him to leave because I don't like him as a composer, even if he plays quite cool or if he can make a cool new solo album. But he didn't fit in a band like DT. Maybe I will be the first who will buy his album in Argentina, but in DT he didn't worked as Kevin Moore who knows he was living and he did one of the bests songs from the AWAKE album.

    Bye.
