Adam (and Jam),
Nothing for nothing, because I'm a "punk-ass boot scalper", but don't
you see what the repercussions of this are? Just a look at Moose
Records, a "Fans For Fans" label specializing in Rush, will tell you
this is NOT a great idea. Moose had some OUTRAGEOUS Rush boots, taken
from his collection he culled from several years of collecting and
trading. Lots of this stuff never saw the light of day until he
released them. Now, because of people with a similar mindset of your
own, he quit the game. TONS of top-quality, soundboard shows will never
see their way into collectors hands. Which only lessens the quality of
the rest of the boots that ARE produced.
Hey, I started out as a collector myself, and in my heart I am still a
fan, which is why you don't see Dave Mathews Band and other "popular"
groups on my list. I don't see any harm in someone like Scarred, Prism
or myself, producing limited edition CDs for fan consumption. If you
want to dupe all the "mass-produced" boots you can get ahold of, go
ahead. But I would discourage you from doing it with the "Fans For
Fans" labels.
Just my 2 cents, I'll put on my flame-retardant suit now....

Tubular Bells I is 1937? I think Mr. & Mrs. Oldfield probably didn't
release Mike until the 1950's... :o)
But seriously, Tubular Bells I is much better than TB II, and the
follow-ups (Hergest Ridge & Ommadawn) even blew TB I away, IMHO

I have to second that notion ;) I am trying my best to keep
up (actually am caught up at the moment), but I could lose a step here
or there and I really don't want to have to worry about that. Its
much nicer when the jam is like it has been the last few days. Lots
of information sharing, lots of good discussion, no stupid fight, etc.
Partha asked about the new release mailing list. The original new
release mailing list fell off the face of the earth a while ago
because of the time it was taking the people involved to compile the
information. I usually check http://www.billboard.com/releases/ which
usually has about the next 6 weeks of information on it. The
information on the page is compiled by ICE Magazine
(http://www.icemagazine.com), but ICE's site is WAAAAY out of date.
I'm assuming they just pump all their info to Billboard now. I don't
see a mailing list on either page, but at least its a way to get the
info.

Hey all...
Just wanted to say it's great to see all these new boots being advertised on the 'Jam for trade. For some it's their first experience actually taping a show, and from what I've heard of the results they're doing a great job. Keep it up. We need more DT/LTE/related boots available to everyone, and it seems like that's going to happen. Even better, these folks aren't offering them for sale. Even the band members who don't approve of boots (and that'd be everyone except Portnoy - tho' what does Rudess have to say about it?) have to admit that it's a hell of alot better to trade boots of the band rather than selling them for profits... Keep it up! Take care all...

Hiya folks! Review of the '99 Motor City Prog Show following.....
House of Usher - Well, unfortunately I didn't get there in time to catch these guys. :( If anybody was in attendance, please post a review.
Discipline - I'd never heard these guys before, although they did come recommended by Partha M., so that's a good start! Anyhow, these guys are hard to describe..... they're an older-style prog rock band (King Crimson-ish - but NOT a clone), but darker, and with some slightly heavier (more 90's sounding) riffs. The music is VERY dramatic, melancholy and intense though! And the lyrics are really enthralling! Aside from the sound at JD's Macomb Theater NOT being great (same with Tiles) and them having some technical difficulties with the keys (the keyboard kept cutting out), Discipline really blew me away! I decided to pick up their two CD's, Push & Profit, and Unfolded Like Staircase. The first is pretty decent, but Unfolded Like Staircase is truly awesome! Note = this fucking CD is like 65 minutes long..... and has FOUR songs on it!
Tiles - Tiles is a progressive hard rock band (w/some more non-prog straightforward rock influence too) sorta in the vein of Rush. I have their two CDs; the self-titled debut (pretty good) and the Terry Brown mixed Fence the Clear (highly recommended) and I enjoy them, but I was skeptical about how tight the band would be live. Well, they silenced my criticisms by putting on a really good, tight show! The whole group was quite good (singer sounded really smooth, nice guitar work - even if the sound was a bit shitty, and the bassist was rather lively) but the drummer is the one that really impressed me! The guy is very obviously influenced heavily by Mr. Portnoy. Note= the drummer is a new member of the band, and unfortunately isn't on their first two discs (and he's only on part of the upcoming third). By the way - they played mostly songs off of Fence the Clear, and also threw in some tracks from their upcoming Presents of Mind disc.
What an amazing bargain for $10! (and probably even a better bargain if I would have caught House of Usher).

Scott Hansen asked Rudess about bootlegs before the LTE show at NAMM, and Rudess was all for it, provided he got copies of it... so that makes it 2 pro-bootleg guys... in DT... and one who doesn't care... Myung...
The LTE show was incredible, although they didn't come on till 2am... they only played 45 minutes...
Wait till you guys hear the mp3s....

If you were famous and I were your fan, why would that be something to be sad about? Is it because I'd purchase your albums and listen to them and try to get other people interested? Is it because I'd buy tickets to your live shows? Is it because I'd drive through several states to see a show or clinic of yours? Is it because I'd take your photo and do 11x17 enlargements for other people who liked you? What on earth could you be talking about? Wait, I SEE what you mean now, you're afraid of STALKERS. Now I get it. Okay, makes sense.
> god how can it piss someone off if someone who has been onstage for > hours and would love to take a shower, get a beer and some sleep isn't > moved to tears if some fans ask him the same questions over and over.
Why would someone in that situation be moved to tears? And why would it anger someone else if someone wasn't moved to tears in a conversation? I can understand a war veteran describing a horrible scenario in Vietnam and some young person not caring at all, causing that veteran to be saddened, so some cases that sort of thing might happen.
Oh, are you referring to Petrucci and I? Of course you are, because you're so interested in my public relationship with him. I don't care what he thinks of you or I, and there isn't much that I'd like to ask him. Why does it strike you that I'm "pissed off" at Petrucci about something? Would I get pissed off if a dog barked? Would I get pissed off at a man for acting in his own nature?
> read interviews. i've met Petrucci only once at the soundcheck, and he > was polite, interested, talkative and had time to sign my guitar. > greetings > Dr.H
Sounds like the same guy. He signed several guitars at a guitar clinic I saw him at, he even came outside after the clinic and gave a few fans a second mini-interview and some more photos. In fact, he's let me take pictures of him every time I've seen him, not to mention explain what "Under A Glass Moon" is all about.
By the way, are you trying to counter my argument that Petrucci can seem cold and robotic in comparison to Mike Portnoy or are you just talking out of your ass?

You should go for "Angel Dust" - released in 1991, it was the last FNM album to feature Jim Martin on guitar and, imo, one of the 10 best discs of the decade.

Mourning Widows is Nuno's second solo album and it's pretty damn good.....I got a copy this week and it's pretty different from schizophonic....
long guitar solos.......lots of riffs.... catchy choruses.....Im not crazy for the lyrics but they are ok...
he plays everything but bass which is played by his nephew....Donovan Bettencourt I think...
the guitar solos are sometimes half of a song lenght.....it has lots of cucka-chucka....
