I'd recommend starting with one of these Jethro Tull albums:

    Aqualung -- more rock oriented
Thick as a Brick -- pretty progressive, but rock too
Minstrel in the Gallery -- somewhat progressive style

I've pasted in my previous remarks on Tull that I posted to
    Ytsejam:

Jethro Tull -- Tull is less classically oriented with more influences from
rock and blues. They can rock with tunes like "Aqualung" or "Cold
Wind to Valhalla" and they can be quite proggy, like in "Thick as
a Brick", with lots of dynamics. Ian Anderson's strong vocals
are phenomenal, as is Martin Barre's guitar work. "Aqualung" is
not all that proggy, but it's a strong album and is accessible.
"Minstrel in the Gallery" combines many of their rock elements
with prog complexity. "A Passion Play" is probably their most
progressive album, but is harder to get into.

I love Tull so I think they're definitely worth picking up.
As for The Moody Blues, you may want to try a greatest hits to give
you an idea of their style, or pick up "Days of Future Passed" (sp?).

have it. It's not listed on CDNOW, either.

What is their Label? (Their official website doesn't even say)

And how do I get my hands on a copy?

    Hi all,

I like Portnoy's drumming much, I also have his video
but I think he steals much from Peart. For example, on
When The Water Break is a cool hi-hat groove in 7/4 I
think which Peart plays in La Villa Strangiato. I liked that
groove much and I was slightly annoyed when Mr. Portnoy
straightly copied it. :-) Anyway, Mike is a killer.

    > Times" were they play a mix of Death, Heavy, Gothic and God knows what
    else.
    > The bottom line is that these two kick major ass.

I'm not a fan of old-style PL, but I was suckered completely when I heard
    'Draconian
Times' and I even like parts of 'Icon', so I guess I'm one of their fans
    who has been
drawn to them since they started 'changing/progressing' - or whatever they
    have
been doing over the last few years. I think that 'One Second' is a great
    album and
I really like the mix of samples in with the crunching guitars. 'Host' is
    not as
immediate or anywhere near as 'crunchy', but still contains meaty tracks
    like 'behind
the grey' (which sounds just as heavy when played live as any of their
    earlier stuff).

I think that you can draw a distinction between the studio and live
    material. I think
that if all you've heard is the two most recent albums, then 'Depeche Mode'
    (or
Dead Can Dance - as the band themselves would prefer) do come to mind, but
put the same material in a live context alonside the older 'heavier'
    material and
you'd be surprised how heavy it sounds and how well it integrates into the
    set.

Must admit though, that as a first purchase, I'd still recommend 'Draconian
    Times'.

Hey, I was just down in the Delmar Loop in St. Louis earlier tonight and
saw a dude wearing a DT shirt (the FII one with the three pictures on the
front). Didn't get a chance to ask if he was on the jam, so if you are
and remember some dork saying something about DT and pointing at you, it
    was me.
A few shows coming to St. Louis of note to some of you on here also,
Ozric Tentacles at Mississippi Nights July 22.
Adrian Belew is playing Blueberry Hill July 25. Unfortunately, I have to
miss the Adrian Belew show since I'll be in Chicago seeing Iron Maiden.
I think that'll help me deal with it :). Also, speaking of OT, their
latest (I assume) album was featured in a rather large ad in a St. Louis
paper (Riverfront Times) for some record store. Thought that was pretty
    cool.
Oh yeah, also, I went to the Cornerstone Festival a couple weeks ago.
Anyway, I was hanging out at one of the tents, waiting for some punk band
to play, I think, and noticed a familiar song coming over the PA. After
a few bars, it hit me. It was Take the Time. I went straight to the
sound man and complimented him on his taste :). I also met up with
another DT fan around that same time that's not on the jam, but knew
about a lot of the bands we all talk about, so that was cool. Also ran
into Dan Temmesfeld there (if you're still on the jam, hey :).

If anyone here is from the USA and uses AOL maybe you can answer a
question for me. When connected to AOL can you telnet somewhere. For
instance get an MS-DOS prompt and type "telnet blind-guardian.com".
Do you then get a log-in prompt? Also is it possible to find a list
of local AOL dial up numbers somewhere on the Internet?

I am wondering because I am thinking of buying a lap top but I want to
be able to connect to the net when I am in the US instead of here in
Germany. So I was just going to stock pile those free AOL CDs to
accomplish this. But if I can't telnet anywhere then it is useless.
thanks for any help people can give me.

I saw the new Megadeth video last night, and the video itself was pretty cool. What I didn't care for much was the song, at least on first listen. I thought they were going back to their more aggressive style, but at least that song is very commercial sounding, not much thrash in there. I hope the new album has less of those songs, even though most of them are pretty cool, but the more aggressive Megadeth songs are just much better.
