Late 70's / Early 80's. Appeared on Baby Snakes, and can also be found on
YCDTOSA Vol 1 & 6.
> Also, can someone tell what is the "You can't do that on stage anymore"
It's basically just 6 double CD sets of entirely live recordings. All
intros/outros/fillers/whatever are completely removed, so each volume is
about 2 to 2 and a half hours of uninterruped live (and he means live, as in
absolutely no overdubs whatsoever) music.

I absolutely agree about the SUAPYG collection, there's only so much a
listener can take.

Inventive? Yes. Twisted? Absolutely. And without a doubt, probably the
most original as well.

Ah yes. One of my personal favorites too! I'd also recommend you check out
YCDTOSA 2 - The Helsinki Concert (1974) which is from the tour in support of
that live album (an interesting concept in itself as the original live
recordings on Roxy were all new material to begin with). Imagine the whole
Roxy album, and another hour's worth of music, but with that lineup playing
every night for 8 months. Amazing feats of performance skill are possible
with a band that skilled. Imagine the intricate-as-hell music on that album
performed at sometimes twice the speed and you get the idea.

Adrian Belew played on Shiek Yerbouti, probably more, but that's the only CD i have with him on it. you can't do that on stage anymore is all live stuff. I believe there are 6 of those. I would also guess that Portnoy would know a whole lot more due the fact that he's a huge Zappa fan. <A HREF="http://www.zappa.com/">http://www.zappa.com/> hopefully that will help you

Thanks Michael, for the URL. I went there and it seemed to work just fine for me. Or maybe that's hopeful thinking, as I like to stay as far from the UBL site as possible. :)
To answer your question, they actually played some of the new stuff, and something from the "middle" of their discog. Sorry that I'm being very unspecific about this. I have some of their songs on tape, but don't know what comes from what album (haven't spent too much time on the site yet :). Personally, although I think some of their older stuff is killer, I like the newER tunes better. Don't ask me about the newEST album, though it seems to have gotten even more electronic, from the one song they played on WSOU. I have to totally agree with you about their change in sound - it is DRASTIC.
Gotta love them though.

Hey, I was thinking about what someone said about the new DT album being a concept album called "Metropolis Pt 2" Wow! That would be awesome. What an idea. We'll see pretty soon. Also, I've been listening to LTE2 lately. It is outstanding. At first listen, I thought there were too many different parts and pieces put together in many of the songs. After listening to it a few times more, I realized that they all fit together very well (I guess, since there are no lyrics, you need more material to make a longer song). Then I went back and listened to LTE1. It has been a great few days. I was one of the bitchers about comparing a change of keyboardists, but I think Jordan will be just as good at the other two. I can't wait for the new DT album or for the mew MP video (if that will be released). Talk to ya later, TW

Howdy folks,
I know I *rarely* post here, but I just wanted to say a quick thanks on behalf of Dali's Dilemma for all of the positive feedback that we've received since the release of "Manifesto.." Thank you! :)
Next, I'd like to comment on Mullmuzzler...
It was an honor to work with James LaBrie, as well as the other outstanding musicians on this project. I am forever greatful for the opportunity that he gave me. James was very open to melodic ideas, which made the collaboration extra cool. Overall, I think that Mullmuzzler sounds great. Terry Brown did a fantastic job mixing it.
Ok. Enough of my yappin', and besides.. I need a pepsi. :)
Later,

And Peter Frampton is at Pine Knob the same night also. He's fairly cool too. Actually I had free tickets to see him, but I decided to go see the Tiles concert/CD release party instead.

By following a couple links from the I Mother Earth website, the new album, entitled "BLUE, GREEN, ORANGE" is on Polygram (specifically POLYGRAM PRODUCTS 52675) not Capitol Records (which I confirmed by checking on the Capitol site). The only on-line site that is listing the ablum so far is the Sam The Record Man site (www.samscd.com). I hope this doesn't mean the album only has Canadian distribution right now, but maybe someone on the 'jam has more info on this?

That was 'Insights'. 'Divided' is currently only available through one shop in Holland - yep 1 sales point for the entire world!!! I was quoted Hfl 40 including postage to the UK. Now convert that to dollar (= US$ 18.42 - according to the nifty currency converter on the MSN UK travel page) add the usual charge levied by the exchange bureau plus a bit extra for shipping from Holland to the states and theres your US$25 (rounded up a bit).
I managed to bring it down to more like $20 by buying several copies for myself and other jammers when I was over there visiting friends but maybe we need someone to organise something along the lines of what was done by Bernd when 'Younique' was released. However, it seems to me that many jammers have already gone and ordered direct from the shop using the info on the new official LV website.

Hail....
I've just seen IRON MAIDEN in NYC (about 3 hours ago) and I have no more voice, lost the use of my legs, am partially deaf, lost 25 lbs. cuz of excessive sweating due to fist-pumping, head banging, etc. and might go blind because I've seen something so spectacular no mere mortal should be allowed to live through.
A bit dramatic...well..umm..yes. But goddamn it sums up my feeelings for such an incredible show!
I'll take it slow since there's a lot to cover and I'm sure to leave some little tidbit out. I got there (Hammerstein Ballroom) at 6:30 cuz doors opened at 7:00 (was supposed to get there earlier but shit always happens......oh well). Wait on line for a half-hour bedazzling many a listener with my tales of Wacken (hail!) and how I'm going again this year ("Eien schlagen bitte"). Plus tons of head-turning and thumbs-up for my ultra-cool ICED EARTH "Burnt Offerings" shirt.
Get inside and race up to the first level balcony to get a great seat right up front. I HIGHLY recommend the balcony to anyone going because I've seen two MAIDEN shows right in front of the stage and its just fucking murder. I'm lucky to have a big frame (ahem) to withstand most of the crowd-surfing pinheads but I remember people getting crushed and actually asking security to lift them up because they lacked the strength to move....and I just couldn't enjoy the show because someone's elbow is constantly in my face. So this time I ran to the balcony and it was the best move I could have done....perfect view, AC blasting in my face, seats to rest during that horrible opening band (CLUTCH), lots of entertainment (women) and watching the moshers doing their smurf dances, and plenty of space to get crazy. Balcony is the way to go......
Place is sold out (not difficult....I believe its around 3500) second night in a row. People are chanting "Maiden", going insane from the anticipation; then finally.......everything becomes electric as the lights go out, huge black curtain descends revealing the incredible stage setup (like Powerslave 'cept its "Ed Hunter") and a video screen descends displaying "Ed Hunter" in laser lights.....then "Transylvania" booms forth to screen shots of the "Ed Hunter" video game for a few minutes.
THEN...hehehe...on the screen we see computer animated WWII planes approaching Eddie standing atop a huge cliff near the water as we hear the intro to Churchill's speech....ahhh YES.. everyone knows what that means!!!! Fuckin' brilliant intro!!!!!!!! Everyone turns into drooling, raving lunatics (myself included). People are screaming Churchill's speech word for word.....finally ...."We shall NEVER SURRENDER!".....and time stands still for two hours as I'm the closest I'll ever get to paradise :)
The boys hit the stage running and cut through one of the most brilliant set-lists ever!
Here it is: --------------- Aces High Wrathchild The Trooper 2 Minutes to Midnight The Clansman Wasted Years Killers Stranger in a Strange Land Futureal Man on The Edge Powerslave Phantom of The Opera The Evil That Men Do Fear of the Dark Iron Maiden -- ENCORE -- The Number of The Beast Hallowed Be Thy Name Run to the Hills ---------------
First thing I need to say is how INCREDIBLE they sound! Bruce (hail!) is amazing and sings better than any previous MAIDEN material ever....powerful, crystalline, emotional! Blaze who?
Adrian looks great right next to Davey again....who both played the most flawless guitar you could hope for. And I have to say my opinion on Janick has changed for the better because he really does add life (and the occasional tasteful solo) to their stage presence. 'Arry and Nicko are just fantastic as usual...Nicko's awesome ride patterns, fills, etc. and Steve's gallops blended perfectly.
Combined.....the MAIDEN powerhouse is as tight as the most insane prog-metal shred band! Songs like "Phantom", "Killers", "Wrathchild", demonstrates wicked time-changes, chord progressions, harmonized soloing, and riffs that kill. I was really blown away at how GOOD they all sounded!!!!!! Bravo!
Bruce sounds great doing the Blaze songs (too bad he has to plod through some really crappy lyric sections......"baking is wild"..hehehe).."Clansman" and the three guitar intro to "Fututreal" kicked ass!
On the three guitar thing: sometimes its really cool...most of the time you can barely notice. BUT..when you do hear it damn is it ever so sweet! Specifically in "Phantom" solos (oh my god....)!
hehe...When they played "Killers" and "Phantom of the Opera" the people around me did not want to know me....I did not know myself even....I became a screaming, jumping, hysterical mass who now had 50 arms. I've prayed to the gods of metal that I one day see those two songs live (to me they exemplify what MAIDEN is all about.....melodic, haunting, technical, and epic!)...and you gotta love that last line in "Killers"......"Ohh god help me what have I done...ohh no!?"...with Steve's brilliant bass line....ARGGHHHHH...I need to go back!
ok...some lists:
Things that rocked:
- driving past the venue and seeing FIVE huge-ass 18-wheelers taking up the entire block - walking past a guy with a M. FATE "Don't Break the Oath" shirt and both of us saying "nice shirt" to each other at the same time (I had ICED EARTH "Burnt Offerings") - when "The Trooper" shirt sold-out at the front booth the dickwad bouncers wouldn't let me onto the floor (cuz of my ticket) to the second booth....so I hailed a gracious fan and he bought it for me - lots of women with tight clothing :) At the end of the show as I'm leaving..I see the smallest girl I've ever seen with the biggest chest I've ever seen! Since men are men everyone starts chanting "Show your tits!" Ya gotta love it....... - saw an IN FLAMES "Colony" shirt......cool - at one point some guy thought he was Superman and FELL out of the top balcony to the floor!!! Thank god he got up cuz that would been a shitty scene...something right out of "Benny Hill" (hail!) - seeing "Phantom of the Opera" and "Killers".....my life is complete - as were all slowly descending the stairs to leave someone screams "Ricky Martin rules!!" sending everybody into hysterics - two cool-looking "Ed Hunter" Eddie's (one walking around beating up Janick during "Futureal" and the HUGE one towering over Nicko during "Iron Maiden") - everybody sang their ass off and made the harmonies of "Fear of the Dark" super-cool - seeing the frightened looks on tourists faces as they walk past the venue and the gauntlet of a long line of deranged MAIDEN-heads - "Scream for me New York"....."SCREAM FOR ME NEW YORK!!!!!!!!!!!!" - lots of fireworks, red flames, and Bruce's mask for "Powerslave"! - Bruce and Adrian are BACK!!!!!!!
Things that supremely sucked:
- trying to cut-off NYC taxi-cabs when the best goddamn band in the whole goddamn world is playing - fucking ripoff street vendors who charge $4 for a hot dog and soda (ALL HAIL PAPAYA KING in NYC!!!!!!!!!!) - ugly women in tight clothing...blecchh :( - one booth ran out of "Trooper" shirts in 20 minutes!!!!! - shirts cost $27!!! FUCK..but it is MAIDEN so its worth every penny - a beer cost $6...f-that....stop at your local bodega first..... - some asshole fans who have no basis in reality....one fan spit at Bruce in which he promptly addressed him to meet him outside to kick his ass - did anyone else notice that video-camerman that came onstage at the end during "Run to the Hills"....Bruce saw him...ran down from Nicko's riser and shoved him twice really hard...the guy almost hit the pole and dropped the whole friggin camera..that was wierd seeing that.....I wonder what happened? - fans up front must have been struggling to breathe because I saw some crazy shit from the balcony....people surfing with their fists flying and legs wailing, HUGE crowd surges from left to right......assholes - morons in the upper balcony who threw garbage (beer, cups, etc) onto the floor and some onto the stage......are these people five-years-old??? - now I have to wait until 2000 to see MAIDEN again......
Wow......holy shit I can't believe I actually banged this review out to such length (told you it would be long). Well.....to those true MAIDEN fans that are still reading this I salute you! (hail!) It takes a monumental event for me to type this much.....now I'm done for the millenium.....or at least till Wacken '99
bottom line: Whoever reads this review and misses the show....forever cursed ye shall be!
'Tis thine own loss......
cheers, Carlo (Fates)
