Went to MAIDEN in Boston Sunday night. Adrian wasn't there. He had a family
emergency and had to fly back home. They expect him back in a couple of
days. Show was great but the sound engineer sucked. I was right next to the
sound board and the guy kept muting mics because they were feeding back.
Bruce was pissed!! I'd say that sound engineer was fired after the show.
    They still kicked ass.

    Hey guys,

So the main talk about this has been the slightly blury track
listing, what about the section of muzak that JP is strumming along to. Had
a whole "Hour Glass" come "Hollow Years" feel to it. Lots of that lovely
sweeping piano stuff that Jorden is so good at (I'm not sure that "sweeping"
is the right term, I'm no keyboardist). I just get the feeling that DT99 is
gonna have a vast, epic feel to it, I cannot wait...!

As for gay stuff and religion, I know we're not supposed to discuss
this here, but Skadz is away doing that whole Blarney Stone thing for two
weeks, so we can probably have a quiet chat about it. I was listening to KX
    - Tape Head in tha car this morning, and I got to thinking about Doug being
gay...and all I could do was scream along to the songs, shake my head, pound
my fists on the steering wheel (he..he...he said fist), and rejoice at what
is a great album. So fucking what if he's gay, the boy's got talent, few
people can conjure such a pounding groove, maybe he wont get to heaven, but
that's probably a good thing, he can entertain me during my long stretch in
    the hot house... :-)

Oh fer sure, dude! After all, for one whole mg of this particular brand
of plutonium to actually kill you, it essientially has to become a fine
powder and inhaled through the nostrils. A human could eat a full pound
of this stuff and it would completely pass through your system with you,
and the pluotium unharmed, simply because it doesn't get digested.

Let me counter with some facts of my own. Cassini's Radio Thermal
Generators (where the plutonium is stored) are essentially pellets of
plutonium surrounded by a large metal shield that is resistant to fire,
collision and heat. The way that the satellite draws energy from the
plutonium is not through nuclear fission (which would be against
international law), but from heat released as the plutonium spontaneously
changes to a less unstable molecular structure.

So lets put what we know into a basic probabilty analysis. You have a
radiation source that will only hurt you if it is ground to a fine powder
and inhaled. It is in a spacecraft specially designed to protect it, if
it managed to somehow hit Earth. First, think of the last time a
interplanetary spacecraft seriously malfunctioned in space, or user error
caused a satellite to malfunction. Only once has this happened, out of
all the satellites we've put in space, and that was a Russian Mars
satellite. Also, as far as targets go, the Earth makes a poor one. At a
massive 15000 miles in diameter it'd take a lucky error for someone to
run the satellite right at the planet. Remember that the distance between
the Earth and the moon is a couple hundred thousand miles. Also, remember
that it takes a fine powder for it to kill people. The satellite would
have to hit someplace that would simultaneously crush the RTG's, vaporize
the contents, and crack them open to release that vapor. Land is the only
thing that will do this. Also remember that this earths surface is 2/3
water. That makes it ever harder to hit land. I read someplace that the
chances of this are happening are such that if we launched a satellite per
year that flew by the earth like this, it would take 300,000 years for us
to get hit such that there would be deaths. Impressive, eh?

Lastly, for comparison, with all of the nuclear weapons testing that has
been done in the world, there is something like 150 pounds of plutonium
dust in the atmosphere. It's a wonder we aren't all toast already, eh?

Also, that Russian Mars satellite that had an accident I told you about?
it's rocket failed, and it didn't even make it out of the Earth's gravity
well before being pulled to Earth. It splashed quite nicely in the
Pacific off the coast of South America. As far as I know, there is no
radiation leakage from the wreckage whatsoever. The slashing and burning
of the Amazonian Rain Forest appears to have had more effect on the
environs than that poor satellite did.

Frankly, I'm disappointed in you, Korg, for mailing out tripe like this.
The sad thing is that people both believe in it, and are propogating it
throughout the world as fact, when it is just spreading fear, lies and
misinformation for their misguided political purposes.

                                            -jeremy

PS The sad thing is that they quoted Nostradamus. UGH! Quote someone
else, someone maybe with a shred of credibility would be nice.

Amazingly that's due to the Sunspot Cycle, a well documented (back
to the 1700s!) cyclic phoenomenon that is caused by the Sun's magnetic
field, and occurs every 11 years. Maybe if you were moderately informed,
you wouldn't think it was such a mysterious thing. You'd think with all
of this information available on the net at people fingertips, people
would actually learn how to investigate these things instead of gathering
a logical INFORMED fucking opinion. Guess not.

Wasn't Art Bell the guy who started the whole stupid "There's a UFO
Circling Hale Bopp" thing, that turned out to be a huge hoax? Thought so,
    just checking.

I think I smell a strong stench of bullshit in the air, as I always do with prophecies. First of all, none of Nostradamus' predictions have come true for sure, all the stuff you read about (WWII, Hitler, etc) happened AFTER his prophecies were discovered/translated and they were aplied to the events that happened. Second, Nostradamus never predicted the end of the world, period. Third, his quatrains were written in old French, which is the equivilant to Shakesperian english, many of the words he used are no longer part of the French language making his passages even harder to decipher, plus the fact that he wrote in very, extremely vague messages (he was a poet after all) and in reality, his predictions could really be applied to a lot of things. Fourth, in the past few months, many of his supposed predictions have come and gone with nothing happening (May 5th, according to a Nostro buff in my school, NYC was supposed to be hit with a nuclear bomb, later that month th!
    !
    e pope

was to be assassinated in Lyon, and of course, the "feast of the eagle" (July 4th) when WWIII was supposed to start). BTW, I do have a resource for all this, just do a search on Yahoo for Nostradamus, theres an FAQ on there, which is where I got most of my info from.

I dont think theres anything wrong with trying to figure out his quatrains, but to actually believe them, hell you might as well go live in a trailer park in Alabama and subscribe to the Weekly World News (no offense southern jammers ;-)

So, I will be standing there, laughing my ass off when this probe does NOT hit earth, and if it does...well I give you all permission to refer to me as The Great Asshole from now on ;-) (though Im sure many of you already do).

Oh yeah, I heard the Jehova's Witnesses have predicted the end of the world for this weekend, and next week, and the week after that, and the week after that....

I don't know, I could learn a lot from Garsed's playing on this album. There
isn't a ton of guitar but I think what there is fits nicely.

    >Derek seems to find a cool grove once in a while, but unfortunately keeps

I think the mix is pretty good too. Actually, I love this album. I
don't usually post my personal opinions on specific music anymore because
1000 people each saying "I like it" or "I don't" seems kind of pointless to
me, but no one is really commenting on Planet X so let me be the first to say
that I think Derek makes Jordan's LTE playing sound like a fucking joke.
Admittedly, the two LTE albums (and a couple of live LTE bootlegs) are the only
exposure I've had to Jordan's playing, and it's quite possible that they aren't
a fair representation of what he can do, but I don't really think Jordan is
    much of a rock musician.
I actually love both LTE albums anyway. Besides whatever personal
reasons the band may have had for making the switch, I suspect that they have
a much easier time writing with Jordan, based on the amount of material they
were able to crank out in the two or three short LTE sessions. I think he
writes great music but I don't like the way he plays it... he's got no balls.
The acoustic piano stuff on LTE is great but whenever Jordan starts shredding
I just cringe. His phrasing is soooo repetitive when he starts using that
synth lead tone... Again, there are some great melodies in there, but I just
don't think Jordan plays them like a rock musician.
I'm not even criticizing the band's decision and I'm definitely not
trying to start a Derek vs. Jordan thing, although I guess comparing them is
exactly what I'm doing. I'm sure the band had good reasons and I'm sure the
new album will kick ass... I just wanted to stick up for Derek since I haven't
seen many other people do it. I have NEVER heard a keyboard player who sounds
like Derek, and while his keyboard is obviously a huge part of why he sounds
so good, I think that saying it's the only reason is like saying Vai uses the
whammy bar as a crutch... the truth is that almost no one can do the shit that
Vai does with a bar, and I don't hear anyone else sounding like Derek, either.
But I don't listen to nearly as many keyboard players as I do guitarists.
Ok, this post has no point so I'll end it after I say one more thing
about Derek in DT: I think he gave them a more identifiable sound and I think
he gave them a LOT more credibility as a rock band in terms of their overall
sound. We have yet to see what they will sound like with Jordan and I'll
probably be blown away by it, but in my opinion they lost something they'll
    never replace with Derek.

    Hey guys,

There will be a Stratovarius chat on OtherNet this Wednesday 21st at
22:00 CET. At least Timo Tolkki, Timo Kotipelto and Jens Johansson will
be there. There's a chance also Jari Kainulainen and Jorg Michael will
join the chat. The chat takes place on the channel #flash.

First off, I even told you in my original post it was a passing fancy. I
just find it interesting. Not to mention that the possiblilty of the RTG's
disintegrating upon re-entry exists (they aren't heat shielded) and when the
plutonium finally falls to the earth (which it would) it would impact with
enough force to cause aerosol particles to form. Depending on where it fell
it could cause few to severe problems.

Considering we're working on probabilities so minute that it's unreasonable
to worry, I just thought I'd corrolate how this possible disaster could
occur at almost precisely the time that Mr. Nostro predicted, in the same
manner he predicted. But, you got me. It's all wishful thinking on my
part. Not that I believe Nostrodamus, or even think it could happen, but I
think it would be funny as hell to see it happen. Not because of the death
of the people (I'm not sadistic or anything) but because of personal reasons
that would probably piss too many people on this list off if I said it
publicly, so I'll be considerate and leave it at that. :)

    Ta, ta...

Forst we get yet another doomsday Notradamus misinterpretation, then we get:

Hey all, To me this track kicks the most ass out of anything on the album. It has occurred to me that JP's tone sounds a little like White Zombie's 1st commercial release. (thunder kiss 65 etc) Anyone else hear this. Listen to the beginning then some Zombie, I don't know if I'm the only person here that actually likes White Zombie though.

Are any of you jammers out there into drum corps or any types of marching bands. This would mostly pertain to the drummers I guess, but any of you who play any other instruments in that area, reply to this. I just saw a Drum Corps show in Denver at Mile High Stadium and it rocked. Thats all for now. Charlie

I was on drumline when I was in highschool (well most of the time in the pit but I was on the bass line for a couple of years, even though I couldn't march) and it rocks! A lot of the guys there were always watching CORPS vids or listening to some DCI finals tape so I've heard quite a bit.. I wanna go to DCI sometime when they come through here, just never got around to it. It's amazing stuff.
