Hell yes!! My feelings exactly! On AoI is where lies my favorite of JP's
playing, i feel this is where he expresses his individuality , like you can say
"THATs JP, and sounds like no one else (mostly) I absolutely love his playing
there.. specially on Impact 2

Hey everybody,
First of all, a couple weeks ago I was driving to a shooting range with my brother. We're in Waco, which is about 100 miles south of Dallas, and we can still pick up the Dallas radio station, 97.1 perfectly. Anyway, Robert "The Producer Guy" actually announced www.mikeportnoy.com on the air. And this was a day or two after that site debuted! Also, he went on to say that Dream Theater was mixing the new album for release in the fall with a tour following. Of course, this all isn't news to us DT-happy internet folks, but it's just rad to hear about that stuff on the air.
In other news, Scarred Records (almost) new URL is: http://www.focusin.com/scarred
I just sent the sound engineer all the tapes I recorded at the Christmas '98 shows, and Scott Hansen has been working on the liner for "5 Days in a Livetime" for the past few months now. If you have any memorabilia from those shows that you think would be great to print in the 16-page full-color inlay, let me or Bogie know. =)
Take care, everybody! Ryan

If you are from Texas like myself, you probably have already heard about what Pantera is doing very soon. They have finished recording two, count em, TWO albums. One of which is coming out around the same time as the new DT ; the other (dont know the date) is a collective effort with the only country (bluegrass) artist i actually listen to, Mr. David Allen Coe (You will love this guy if you give him a chance).----a really good songwriter... I was suprsied to hear theyd be working together, but it turns out, both artists (from Dallas) are huge fans of each other. There will be songs with DAC singing and Pantera playing and songs vice versa and some duet type stuff as well. TALK ABOUT FUSION!!!!! I cant wait for this thing.....i bet most other Texan Jammoids will appreciate this one a hell of a lot as well.

Hey, but if you are that 5 year old kid, that that is a VERY hot topic. And if it turns out not to be the Pokemon you wanted, you're gonna grumble, whine and bitch about it. Now that I think about it, I expect a very similar reaction on here when the new album comes out. :-)

Awww, well, many things do not behave like you think they will. But dont say Metallica changed and people bitched. As if to say that everyone is too picky about a band changing direction.
I used to LOVE this band...now I think there is no hope for them. THANX alot Bob Rock < rock...what a fuckin joke eh?>

I will not continue this flame. As I have heard it, a flame on this subject has just finished.
>Operation: Mindcrime is brillant because of its story and lyrics, >not so much the kick ass music.
Shame on me, I don't know any QR, FW or any stuffs like that. (anyway: Which album would you guys recommend to a DTfan that has never ever heard anything 'progressive' except for DT?) I know Savatage's WoM and DWD. Okay, they are not that progressive, but they did a good job concerning their concept albums. WoM is their best album so far IMHO. Its music and lyrics are just awesome. The story of DWD is incredible, but it is not that brilliant 'musically'.
>Besides, DT already did >a concept album -- it's called Awake.
Uhum...The concept was: 'Mmmkay, guys, let's sit down and make a kickass album!':) I don't share your opinion. There are some songs on that album that are not 'separated' by a 3-4 sec. pause, and sometimes - as someone has mentioned - riffs are repeated in different songs, but the whole album is _not_ a real story. I would say that A Mind Beside Itself is a part of a story, and the The Mirror/Lie/Lifting Shadows would be also a part of a different story. Its quite clear that the album has a quite distinguishable beginning, and end. But still...I wouldn't call it a concept album.

Maaaan.;) I am greeen with envy. I wasn't really a metalhead in 1984, when they had a show here in Budapest with - of course - Dickinson. I was only six then.:(((( I saw them a year ago unfortunately with blaize baley (whose name should be spelled in lower case, because I have not seen anyone who is so unsuitable to sing in Maiden). So blaize sucked. But Gers and Harris kicked asses. They were incredible!!!!
I can't wait to see Maiden with Dickinson. But, for Christ's sake. Dont let Steve mess up with the sounds.:))))) I couldn't hear a thing from the guitars, I just heard ta tamtaramtaramtaram (horses came in...;) ) and nothing else. I bet Steve was the last to 'check' the amplifiers and mixers before the show, as usual...;)
> portnoy: I think the new DT album needs to be really heavy with > classical influences. Cut out the pink floyd and jazz stuff.
No way.:) If DT cut out the jazz stuff, it would lose most of its 'progressiveness' IMHO.

Okay then. The solution is this: Cut down the possibility of seeing these reviews. When you see in the subject Reviews or Opinions about the new Dt album before the release date, just delete the whole e-mail.;)

Hell yea!...do you ever use inverted triads?....I love minor 2nds and bend/sliding them to other inverted chords....is that kinda new in the metal genre?....Im writing stuff that is, if nothing else, non-cliche.
Let me know...I like dissonant minor chords that include unison notes. That dissonance is intriguing.

Hey everyone. I just wanted to let you all know I made a new DT fan-literally. On Saturday, July 24, at 5:13 A.M. Central time, my wife and I had a baby girl. Her name is Madelynn Caileigh Wood. She is beautiful. She already has a two year old brother, Colin, who listens to DT with me too. She'll be no exception. So now I'm off to smoke a cigar. I'll need to come up with a set of lyrics that captures my image of her. Hopefully the new album will be helpful. See ya, TW

Whats up? I figured that I would start a new thread that I find kind of interesting. I have noticed (with great interest) that radio stations are starting to play, 1. More 80's metal. 2. More talented 90's music and 3. A lot more HEAVY stuff. Let me give you a reason why I feel that it is improving. My family runs a volunteer food vending shack at a local fair every year. I have been busting my ass all the while listening to a local "rock" station. It seems that every 3rd song seems to be a band long and forgotten or "re-emerging" i.e. Scorpions, Ratt, Poison, Warrant, Trixter, Firehouse, Guns 'n Roses, etc. I was so excited, sure some of their stuff was pretty cheesy, but by no means as cheesy as the music that we have been hearing in the 90's. I must say that I am happy. Mixed in with the re-emerging metal of the 80's has been some kick ass 90's stuff. I don't care what anyone says I dig that song by Buckcherry, stuff by Live, Foo Fighters and even Creed. You must/might admit that it isn't "super-talented" but it is a hell of a lot better than Nirvana and cheesy grunge. Of course anything off of Pearl Jam's Ten album is okay by me. I like it. Soundgarden kicks ass, but Bush sucks : ) Okay.. I'm tired an rambling.. but does anyone see what I see? I hope that everyone doesn't think that I'm crazy.. Okay.. I'm going to get some zzzzzzzzzzz's. Later, J Jeremy Kube kube@nh.ultranet.com inflammabl@aol.com "This Job would rule if it weren't for the f*$king customers!" I for one, would rather give up Met pt 2 and have DT do whatever the fuck they want ... and base their music on what truly drives them emotionally than to do a Met pt 2 JUST because the fans want it to happen.
I pray they continue not to sell out and do whatever they please. Even if the fans bitch, they will appreciate that better in the end :)

That's the one. It only has seven tracks. It's technically an EP (or the band refers to it as that, anyway). Be assured, though, that these seven tracks kick ass, especially the final one, "Mettle Men." It's cool that CDNow has it, though I'm curious to hear the delivery time on it. I've had problems with CDNow and anything on small lables. It almost always arrives, but it usually takes a lot longer than it should.
