I love the jam. All the religion, all the talk on homosexuality, all the
Gloom-and-Doom sayers, and all the rebuttals... this is fucking awesome! I
seriously haven't had this much fun reading the jam in a long long time.
Skadz should go on vacation more often.

Korg: The original post that started the Nostrodamus (sp?) thing was
    awesome.
Jeremy: Your rebuttal (in Jam 4981) was just as good.
T.D. Smith: You're on your own, pal.

And to those of you who are spouting epithets about Jesus and homosexuality
and Doug Pinnick: Everyone's give-a-shit factor as to whether or not Doug
takes it in the seat should be a big, fat, ZERO.

Sorry if I'm flogging a dead horse here, but after three jams of reading
this stuff, I had to say something.

Just because Mr. Skadz is gone, does that mean we have to revert to this
ridiculous shit on the list? Please people, let's let these topics
die. We all know some of these are real no-no's, so let's act
    accordingly. Please.

Oh, and AL..... I actually like both versions of "Summer Breeze", the
original as well as TON's cover.

I'm a HUGE Type O fan, and I wonder if either of you have heard the version of "Summer Breeze" TON originally recorded (with the fucked up lyrics) - Seals and Crofts' original lyrics are the ones sung on the album TON released. I only have it on a bootleg (very funny, BTW)...

Yup. Good book, too. Suggested reading for anyone.

Speaking of artificially created black holes/singularities, "Event Horizon" had a pretty interesting theoretical background, though the movie in and of itself was disturbing (any movie that has people screaming, in Latin, "Help me I am in Hell" is disturbing, as far as I'm concerned).

Got Planet-X last night. It's one of those challenging discs that makes you think as you're listening to it, sort of like anything that Allan Holdsworth has ever released - apart from his addition to "Play that Funky Music" and his work with Level 42. :) . To me, that's a good thing. Occasionally, I enjoy being challenged by a cd, and this is certainly one that does that. I'm still working on it, but I like what I've heard a *lot* so far.

I also got Poison's Greatest Hits for $7.99 - another CD that's challenging, but in an entirely different way. :)

a note for those who would respond to a seemingly jerky post with an indignant, perhaps evil post of your own....before you hit that "send button", give it one last thought: is it something that the entire jam community needs to read? are you that full of yourself that you need to have that particular thought transmitted to everyone here? if the answer is still yes, please see the title of track 12 on King's X's Dogman album (how ironic, seeing as how this whole thing started with Doug Pinnick) for instructions....

    if not, thank you

Hey, it has Sam Neill in it, so it can't be that bad (I thought he was a killer Merlin). :) Of course, I think Stephen Hawking's "A Brief History of Time" is the armchair cosmologist's best reference guide. I'm tempted to pick up "Black Holes and Baby Universes and Other Essays" but I've heard it's not as reader friendly as ABHoT. -- KorgX3, Junior Cosmologist NP: Angra - Fireworks

Spewing forth their vast amounts of wisdom, The Doc and Jens farted out:

    >Jesus was gay... that's why he never got laid... > >-The Doc

    >I thought these FACTS were thoroughly established: Moses was gay. Adam and Eve were gay. Jesus >was a gay pedopfile, and very well hung. God was, and is, REALLY gay. The Holy Spirit completes >the trinity. John the Baptist was a pedofile. The Virgin Mary was into watersports. The Bible >is a book. Dogma makes simple moral rules, and makes us hate, torture and kill our fellow human >beings. Barney is both a dinosaur, and a man in dinosaur suit. The present (very gay) Pope >likes kielbasas but disapproves of women in the clergy. Any questions?

Yeah, I have a question. Did you acquire all this knowledge from first hand experience? Nostradamus must have taken over your bodies and taken you back in time with Bill and Ted to find out such historical "facts."

Come on guys . . . you can't think of anything better?

Those are some of the most stupid things I think I have ever read. I guess it is some lame attempt at trying to piss everyone off . . . those who hold to a religious faith or those who are gay. If I were religious (which I'm not) or gay (which I'm not), I would find both of your posts totally tasteless and uncalled for. Being that I'm neither, I don't really care. But I still think your "humor" is just too great to constantly share with us normal people on this list.

Let me try some Doc and Jens humor: . . . your mama was gay and well hung, and your daddy liked to dress up like your mom. The fact you exist is an evolutionary fact. You started out as a blob, and are just coming into maturity in your monkey stage.

    Haaaaa, hhaaaaaa, hooooooo, hummmmmmm, . . .

    Wasn't that hilarious?!

    NOT!

Funny . . . all these posts are making me wonder more about many of the claims that everyone keeps bashing. Nobody seems to be bashing Buddha, or Mohammed. Maybe there is something relevant about all of it after all . . .

Regardless, Jens the comment about Barney was too much. I have close contact with him, and he was very insulted that you left him out of the "gay" list. Barney may be shunned by the Gay and Lesbian organizations, but considers himself a proud card-carrying member. He told me to convey that he has a bone to give to . . . uh . . . er . . to pick with you if he ever runs into . . . umm . . if he ever meets you.

no, I'm one too..but if you notice most threads have no bearing to the topic of the list...

    >This kind of stuff has been going on for a while, and I realize it's easy to >spout off a quick and impassioned reply when somebody posts something that >doesn't agree with you, or when somebody insults a good friend of yours. >That's easy to do, and I admit I've done that a time or ten in my younger >years. >

so why are you doing it now???

    >Just because Skadz is in Ireland for 2 weeks (lucky guy) doesn't mean the >list has to fall to pieces. I don't think I'm going to ruffle too many >feathers by making a few suggestions to everyone: > >1. Grow up a little.

    >b. Think before you post anything. Ask yourself if the rest of the list >needs to see it.

I'm thinking, naaa...my head hurts, better not try to do that again....

    >4. Private email is a *wonderful* way to reply to something that is either >controversial or not relevant to the list. >

Yeah, but who reads their private e-mail??? Not me, I filter it out because I get so much crappy spam....

    >I'm not going to name names and start condenming people, but you guys know >who you are. These kinds of discussions (flame wars?) are usually something >that most mature adults should know how to avoid. They're not constructive, >they bring down the rest of the list, they can be hurtful... and most of all, >they aren't supposed to be here. >

    Yeah, but they're fun....

    >This is a place for discussion of music, Dream Theater, and topics relevant >to that. Doug Pinnick's sexual preferences aren't relevant. Neither are the >ramblings of Nostradamus or the construction of space probes, as intriguing >and thought-provoking as they tend to be. And definitely not the outright >accusations and insults that have been flying lately. We should know better >than this by now. >

Well, being as most Dream Theater topics such as Kevin Moore, Derek Sherinian, or whatever else are banned and deemed not fit to be discussed, you have discussions that degenerate into this....The Nostradamus thing I had no problem with...go do your preaching to the Bible-thumper who said Doug Pinnick was gay and it was sad....wonder if he knows that his band Dream Theater is a heavy metal band, and that heavy metal is considered to be the devil's music??? He may decide to disregard that, but he decides to keep his own prejudices and hide them behind his religious curtain....

    >As members of the Ytsejam mailing list, representing and discussing the band >known as Dream Theater with the rest of the internet community, and >representing a new 'standard' of music for people to appreciate, we need to >set a standard for maturity and intelligent list content. People are >watching us (not just the men in black suits, mind you) and we need to >collectively wise up. Heck, our own band members watch us. Anybody care to >ask Mike what he would think of some of the stuff that's been posted lately? >Ever wondered why the rest of the band doesn't get involved with the list >more?

Maybe because they're busy and have lives unlike us who spend time talking about religion, Nostradamus, homosexuality, and the rules of the YtseJam...

    > >There is indeed a reason why Skadz set up the listserver to keep the headers >and e-mail addresses of the senders of the posts you see. It doesn't take 15 >seconds to change the "To:" field when you're replying to something >off-topic. Please learn this. >

No, it doesn't take 15 seconds, just 2 seconds, but it's still too much effort....

best way, if you don't like the threads, don't contribute to them..they'll eventually die down...best thing for you to do if you want other discussion is for you to start another thread....

Oh dear God in heaven (or not).... Someone invoked Niven. :)

Jens, the short story you mentioned was "The Hole Man" (and it's really good). Happily, the entire Earth probably wouldn't be devoured by a mini black hole "within a few minutes." Its gravity gradient would be steep but only within a region very close to the mass -- at least at first. Of course, it would grow steadily....and devour the Earth in a few hundred to a few thousand years.

Say, this could work wonders for NASA's future budget. "Wanna escape before it's too late? Tell your Congresscritter to support a BIG NASA budget increase NOW!" :)

With the 30-year anniversary of the first Moon landing passing yesterday, it's a crying shame we haven't gone a bit farther by now. Mars and the Asteroid Belt beckon; it's up to us to heed the call.
