I just bought Spocks Beard and Fates Warning and these were the first
non-DT LTE or Plat related prog things I have ever bought, but unfortunately
I do not like them. Tell me people, should I keep them and let it grow on
me? Or should I return em?

    Ok,

I know I've seen this mentioned time and time again, but can someone email
the list of what Kevin's setup consisted of for the I&W and Awake albums? I
    would surely appreciate it!

Alas, such info should be in the FAQ (something I have suggested time and
time again with regard to Petrucci), but it always seems to fall on deaf
    ears.

Anyway . . . thanks for any info on this.

If nothing else, what are the 2 keyboards that he uses on the Japan video?
And does anyone know if he used the sounds straight from the boards
(presets)? Which would beg the question of which ones?

    Thanks!

Planet X will be appearing at the Baked Potato on 7/22 and Derek mentioned he
will have Planet X CDs signed by him and Virgil Donati at the show for $15.

If anyone is interested, send me an email
    calvin6s@aol.com

I can pick you up a copy if you send me cash or a money order for $17 ($15
plus $2 for shipping) by 7/21 (day before the show). I will also do it for
orders outside of the US but you wouldn't have much time to get the money to
me. International orders would also pay a bit more for shipping (depending
on where you live). I will send you the address to send the money to when you
    email me.

I consider myself a reliable person and I'm sure others I have traded with or
bought DT Japanese tab books would back me up on this. You will have to act
fast though because 7/21 is right around the corner.

I'd like to join the growing group in praise of the Panasonic Port. CD
players. I've had one for 4 years or so (can't give model number; my g/f
borrowed it), and it's survived countless drops on numerous surfaces, as
well as immersion in water. It doesn't skip all that often, either.

Everybody's problem is that Sony is the top-selling brand, and so many
people think they're hot shit if they rage against the top-selling
whatever...I love my discman, it's Sony, same for all my other Sony
equipment, I've got a DAT machine, does beautiful, two Minidisc units, does
fine, and two Minidisc walkmans, and they work great...Anyone can have a
lemon, but c'mon folks, do you really have to jump on the bandwagon so damn

One thing I've noticed is that car CD players are very bad for discs, I
think it's because of the slot style players, the rollers tend to scratch
up CD's..I've noticed this from many different people I've borrowed CD's
from...yet another reason I love my discman, just plug it into my car and
my tape player and let it rip, saves my cd's....

A concept album is an album which is written telling a story about a person,
an event, etc. Each song will relate to the story and (hopefully) all the
songs will run in chronological sequence unlike SG's Tyranny.

    Examples of concept albums are:
    Queensryche: Operation Mindcrime
Savatage: Streets, Dead Winter Dead, Wake of Magellan
    Pink Floyd: The Wall
    Shadow Gallery: Tyranny

Basically any genre of music can write a concept album. It's an idea rather
than a style. Personally, I seem to enjoy concept albums more than regular
albums over time. It makes me wonder if the new DT could in fact be one....
:) That could kick ass. :)

APSoG is kind of a stand alone performance, NOTHING from ANYONE sounds quite like this CD. I also really like "No Exit." Well OK, I like all of them, but No Exit, and Perfect Symmetry are my favorites. (bar APSoG)

The studio version of "The Ivory Gate of Dreams" (from N.E.) is one of my all-time favs.. Alder is fucking amazing! JM & FA have some very interesting exchanges as well.

Interesting things... like how Kevin's solo at the beginning seemed oddly familliar. I got a big wave of deja vu, and felt compelled to pop in Once In A Livetime. DS's solo... hrm. A little familliar there.

Also, I had no idea Geddy Lee cloned himself in 1973, only to be thawed and brought in to sing for Majesty. Amazing. ^_^

You'll know the new the album's going to be a concept album when you see Jordan wearing a long blond wearing white flowing gowns in the studio footage.

F*CK, I'm pissed!! I just found out that Dennis DeYoung is sick and some F*UCKIN CANADIAN is replacing him on the STYX tour. His name is Lawrence Gowan. I've never heard of him, but maybe he's not too bad because Tony Levin plays bass on most of his cds, but that's no F*CKIN guarantee because he played on Paula Cole too and I'm so F*CKIN sick of hearing that I Don't Want to Wait song every time I watch Dawson's Creek on that F*UCKED UP frog channel.

    Howdy, y'all...

Matt pondered... >Anyone else wondering why the boys are intentionally being so hush-hush about the new record? Maybe it'll end up being a concept album or something :) <

Well, for what it's worth, my gut feeling is that it probably isn't. It's been reported that DT went into the studio without anything written -- just wrote as they recorded. It seems to me that a concept album would have had to have been planned and written and worked over quite a bit before setting foot in a studio. But that's just my thought; who knows what's really going on?!?! :-)

The sound quality is actually just as good as CDs, if not better. They store more information and of course are writeable and overwriteable which is a big plus. However consider if its what you want, because they cost stacks, both the player and the mini discs themselves. You will also have to be buying CDs and then recording them on to mini disc. Personally I would recommend just getting a decent CD player. Of the big name brands Panasonic is definately the best way to go for this type of stuff. Sony are just unreliable- sure some might be fine but you never know. Maybe get a good warranty if you have to buy sony.

Im not a sound expert here, but logic dictates that a mini disc WONT sound the same , much less better than a cd, since its a much smaller disc, in order to fit the same ammount of music on it, it means MORE compression, and more compression means degraded sound. Anyone else care to comment on this, perhaps mr progtologist?

It's not a bandwagon. Look at quality reports. Whether you're talking about audio or video, the fact is that Sony does not hold up as well as most of the other consumer brands. Go read about it.
