I remember that I started to dig Hank Williams, Jr
after my brother constantly played it for me. I'm
still not a big fan, but I do enjoy certain songs as
they have an emotional attachment to me. It sounds
weird, I know, but there ya go. Those songs remind me
of a different time of my life and that's why I like
them. I don't regard Hank Jr in the same league as
Zeppelin or DT or Pearl Jam or anything.

I saw "The Matrix" 4 times. I think it was probably one of the best
movies of the past several years. It destoryed anything esle I'VE seen
atleast. Nothing comes close. The only movie I liked better is Robin Hood:
Prince of Thieves which will remain my alltime favorite forever:>

    `brainwashing.`

    >it happen too many times.

Hearing something 5,000,000 times does NOT equate with liking it; in my
experience it's more likely to go the other way, in fact. ><

So you're not as impressionable as most people. But a lot of people *will*
like a song if they hear it enough. Example: my brother's friend listens to
Pantera. My brother absolutely hates them. But he watches some wrestling show
and they play the song `Walk` a lot. All of a sudden he loves that song, but
he hates anything else by Pantera.
I hate that type of attitude. Anyway, the reason you didn't like the country
music that you were exposed to so much is probably because you already knew
that you didn't like most country music. It's different when you're talking
about an entire genre. Sit some 14-year old kid down who listens to Rob
Zombie, Korn and Orgy and make him listen to any rap over and over and he'll
hate it no matter what. But if you play him the latest Korn rip-off a bunch
    of times, he'll love it.

People decide what type of music they listen to...MTV decides *who* they
    listen to.

And the radio and the labels. MTV deserve all of the blame, but a damn lot of
    it.

    hi all!

About leagal and illigal chords, we have a song where our key boardinst is holding
a Am and Gm at the same time. it's hard for me as a guitarist to hold that one
'cuz I need to hold six notes at the same time so I refer to it by Am7b9 or at
times Am4th7th and at the 5th position, it works with the keyboard fairly well.
When I asked the keyboardist about what made him go for such an oddity, he just
gave me a blank smile and said he thought it sounded cool (specially with the flat
    9 th vibe)
So, that's the main thing! As long as it sounds cool/OK it's never illigal (in
music or art to be frank). most people thought Steve Vai went overboard with the
dramatic ending of 'For the love of God' and a lot hated the 'Ya Yo Gak'. One of
my students came in yesterday with the alien CD that he borrowed from me and said
YYG was the best thing he's ever heard and he's taped a whole 30 side of a tape
    with just that ;-)
The bottom line is we do not condemn others when they like red/hot food or
blonds/cars what not so why with music?

    shocks for

    >reflection I don't think that's relevant to the discussion yet...

They were fake shocks. Here's what happened: The experimenters put an ad
in the paper, offering some cash for a day of sitting in a room,
answering questions. When subjects got to the room, they would discovers
that as "part of the experiment", someone is behind a wall, strapped
down, heard but not seen, and this unseen victim, they are told, will be
shocked whenever the subject answers wrong or refuses to answer.

There were no shocks. The "victim" was an actor. The experiment was to
see if, once the subject had taken the day's pay and free meals or
whatever, would still honor his obligation even though he would be
taking part in the suffering of another.

The scientests, as part of the experiment, would badger and yell at the
guy, telling him that they'd paid him and he couldn't leave now, and who
did he think he was, and so on.

I guess they were good at that, because as far as I know, most of the
subjects would end up staying, choosing not to dishonor their
    obligation.

oh yeah - that black-spiked hair chick IS different from the
close-cropped red/brown haired vixen in the country ad.

    manager's about it.

Anyway, while I was bored at work one day and not being productive(gasp)
I came across and Entertainment weekly article about prog rock. they
hailed Ben Folds Five as the leaders of the genre and talked about how
they were going to lead Prog into the next century. Fucking BEN FOLDS
FIVE. My god, the compared to Yes. The other bands I can remeber being
mentioned were Genesis (cool) nad TSO. Nowhere did they mention that TSO
is Savatage because if your band originated in the 80's you are
condemened. I am glad I am the only person I know (besides all my friends
in Ytseland) that dig DT. I saw a guy in the mall with a FII shirt one
day. Other than that, no one.

Yes that's a deal, and yes, Rotel makes great amps for the price.
As far as CD players go... If you can afford it, go for the RCD-971.
As great as the RCD-951 is, the 971 really is a more substantial
machine. BTW, B&W kicks ass! Especially their larger stuff.

I can't say enough about this company. Rotel is one of the FEW companies
that puts "sound" first, and sells at a reasonable price. I would also put most
of the newer Adcom gear in the same category. The Rotel CD players have an
edge on the Adcom players, keep that in mind.. In the amplifier and preamp
department, the playing field is fairly level.

Go for the separate amp/preamp if you can spare the change, the versatility
is far greater than the integrated amps. However, sonically speaking, the
integrated amps are miles ahead of mass marketed receivers.
As a rule, avoid the "bottom" models of any company, they usually maximize compromises
in order to keep the costs down. In some cases, the lower models
can benefit from "trickle-down-technology." The more hi-end'ish the company, the
more likely that's where the cost savings came from. Not a bad thing.

Go out and listen to the stuff with YOUR music, and make sure to kick the
sales-person out of the room. Most stores will respect your RIGHT to listen
without the interruptions of some jackass tootin' his/her horn. (OK, so it's a
little tougher for her) Initially, go ALONE, if it requires the final nod from
the "Warden," take her/him later. And make sure to kiss some serious ass!
Don't bring a friend(s), you'll find their input counterproductive in most cases.
NEVER BUY ON A WHIM! Do your homework before purchasing, the stuff will
still be there. The Net can be a great source of info if you know where to look.

As funny as this may sound... Look at the weight. Chassis integrity is VERY
important in CD players, and it certainly can be an indicator as to how well
the preamp or amp is built. Flimsy chassis's can cause the printed circuit
boards to flex when being moved, and resonate with the vibrations that
accompany louder music. This is a BAD thing! :) Circuit traces and solder
joints are amazingly unforgiving to either condition.

Actually this isn't only true for children, but also for adults. In a similar experiment adults (students) had to name colours, which could be green or blue. In the beginning of each session the first few colours where named correctly by the pseudo-subject, and of course by the real subject (who was positioned in the one-but last seat). Then the fake subjects started to make more and more unanimous mistakes, and in most of the cases our subject followed them and called green blue or vice-versa. Even in groups of only three persons (two 'fakes', and one 'true') these results were obtained.

However, there appeared to be one thing that could remedy this severe form of social pressure: when the fake subjects didn't make a mistake unanimously, i.e. one of them gave a correct answer, most of the subjects gave a correct answer too. Thus it is possible to conclude that if you have one person with a similar opinion, there is more chance that you will express your own opinion, even in case of a big majority with an opposiung view.

I guess that as long as we DT-fans have the Ytsejam to keep in touch with each other, we will keep spreading the word!:-)

As far as _I_ know, the main conlusion of that experiment was that the subject were 'electroshocking' the fake subjects for a surprisingly long time. Only when the 'victim' started to yell and screamed in pain, most of them quit the experiment.
