Same reason I got SYL, and I have ALL Testament so I was all psyched up when
I heard Hoglan was gonna be on it, then disappointed. Makes me wonder why
someone so technically great would move to some noise-oriented band where
they have less opportunity to be heard? Then why even bother practicing at
    all? =)

I will check out Spastic Inc if I can. Sean Malone's Cortlandt would be next
along with Gordian Knot and Anomaly. You can get them at Laser's edge and
they are under $15... so I am getting paid tomorrow. Should be a good time
    to order that stuff...

Partha... Yeah they do have LTE II listed. Surprisingly. Considering the guy
tried spelling the band names all fucked up when entering them into the
computer: "Tyles", "Iceage", "Dolli's Dalemma", but my favorite spelling of
that Best Buy visit was when I asked them to check for Live at Donnington by
Maiden. His original version of the band name was "Iron Meidan". I'd be
surprised if the guy can spell his own name and I dont even wanna know what
    the hell he listens to.

About the Buckcherry thing: they are an average band playing average hard
rock songs. What makes them above average is that they are signed to
Dreamworks. The GnR comparisons are vaild in the amount of attitude each band
gives off, but Buckcherry is not going to set the world on fire like GnR did.
And Buckcherry has enough of that southern thang going on to turn me off.

Yesterday I noticed something on the LTE1 CD.
I have brand new stereo, Pioneer amplifier and Tanoy speakers. The
    combination is really great.
BUT, while listening the album I noticed some errr ... noises, clicks!
:( They are similar to those LP clicks, but these are not so loud. They
are like 5, 6 small clicks one after another very fast, so that it all
lasts some half second or less. But if you're averagely concentrated
    it's quite noticable! :(

Naturally, the parts where it's obvious is the more silent parts of the
album, like piano, or piano/guitar combination and stuff like that.
Actually the mix on State of grace is not so good. The inreo is only
Jordan playing the piano sound on his keyboards, but there is a lot of
noise/murmur. How come? :( It is not cleaned / filtered very good.

Finally, here are the timings where those clicks I descrobed above
happens, but there are much more on these 2 songs. The thing is that
everytime the clicks are on the same spot, which excludes problems with
the speakers, .. it must be the CD! On the other hand, if it means that
my LTE CD is damaged (who knows, little scratches or somethin'...), this
is the first time I hear this kind of consequence on the sound. I assume
the CD is like that from the manufacturer. The weird thing is I didn't
    noticed before!
I would appretiate if some of you check your CDs on the below time
    places:

    Freedom of speech:

    0:03-0:04
    0:09
    0:18
    0:22

    State of grace:

    0:05
    0:09-0:10

P.S. although I still didn't check the CD on other devices.

    > Possibly spawned by Nazi trials after WWII (where the > "I was following orders" defense was often used).

Now dude, your comment can turn into HUGE philosophical thread! :)

The "I was following orders" stuff seems to be the ONE AND ONLY MOST IMPORTANT rule in army! A soldier MUST follow orders from his superior officers. And there's no excuse for that! The "logical" explanation for this is "In war time, you follow orders or you die! In army there must be rules which need to be 100% obeyed!"

(Remember "A Few Good Men"? It's a story exactly about this problem)

I think I heard that in war situation if soldier doesn't obbey direct order he can be shoot on the spot!?!!? :) geez, ... tell me I'm wrong.

I'm in a country where we all males have to serve 9 months army service, an dit is said that all kind of morons are there with you (under assumption I'm not one of them :). So like, you're some 23 and you have 18 years old punk who is your superior and what makes his day is getting on your nerves. Recomendations: Swallow it and move further! But my being DO NOT want to accept that. And who can?

I was asking about Satch and Vai a few Jams back, and this caught my eye when browsing through www.vai.com (strangely I couldn't find this anywhere but under tour dates):

"Steve is currently off the road, and working on a number of new projects including the new solo record due in July."

Hopefully this information is still up to date.

Can anybody here confirm that Angra is playing their first US date at the Milwaukee metal fest on July 30-31? I saw a reference to it in a post on Usenet, in alt.rock-n-roll.metal.progressive. If it's for real, I'm gonna have to really try to get there.

I was recently at Wherehouse Music to (duh) purchase a CD. I picked out a CD I wanted to listen to before purchasing (I find that I get less frivlous as I mature. The CD was the Dead Man Walking score). The employee behind the counter informed me that the store can no longer play a CD before being purchases, unless it's one of their specially marked (read: MTV-produced, overhyped) CDs. "Well shit," I said to myself. "I'm basically fucked b/c I refuse to buy this CD before listening to it". This also extends to prog bands I've never heard before. You 'jammers can recommend something until we're all blue in the face, but in the end we're all individuals with our own tastes and preferences.

Have no fear, I'm going somewhere with this long-winded post.

This is where mp3s come in. I'd like to have a list of websites that contain mp3s for the following bands-- Symphony X Iced Earth Spock's Beard Shadow Gallery

I'm not looking to download an entire album (I do have a life), I just wish to sample the album, see if there's anything on it that I might dig listening to. Thanks everyone! === *Trent

Hey all, sorry I have been away for a little while. The other night I was talking to one of my bosses at work, named Mandy. She is an MTV/pop groupie. Anyway I was talking how MTV is evil and how they say what is cool or popular. I was talking about how record companies are taking advantage of this "latin pop" thing with Ricky Martin. I was takling about the Jennifer Lopez CD> She is a pretty girl who is easy to market. She said "that album was propbably in the works a year ago." I'm sorry. If DT can record all the music from I&W in about a week, than a pop album could be done in less time. I got so agravating she actually stoppped talking to me and sent me home later! Victory!

I'm sorry, whoever said it, but I'm inclined to believe that the guy who said that Reinert didn't do as much in Cynic as he did on Human just doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about. The stuff on Human is tough, but it's not NEARLY as nuts as Cynic. Gordian Knot and Cortlandt's drum parts were partially writen by Sean Malone... Reinert didn't adapt them too much and didn't go all out on it. Anomaly was a band for hire thing, and I haven't heard it. Aghora is very similar to Cynic in style. If you base your opinion of how good a drummer is by his double bass work and his ability to play "fast" over everything, you've missed out on the finer points of drumming. Just for the record, Reinert outclasses ALL of Death's drummers, ever. He's a true genius.

Just as a matter of insight, in their early days, The Beatles would record entire albums in a matter of hours (over a period of time). Jennifer Lopez is just being exploited. <cynicsm>Maybe she can sing, maybe she can act, but maybe she wouldn't be doing if she didn't have that huge butt of hers.</cynicsm> Anyways... === *Trent

heheh, you beat me to it. obviously i totally agree here. for the most part Death is the easiest example of a technical death metal band, and indeed there is no other drummer in that genre that can equal Reinert's technique and ability. Hoglan of course became a pretty big name after his two album stay with death (i don't think he got much recognition with dark angel) and the latest drummer, Richard Christy, who came from the slightly creepy (lame choice of words, but what the hell) but unfortunately redundantly boring alexter crowley inspired satanic act "Acheron", is way over-rated. he does possess a great amount of talent, and certainly fits the song writing mold of Death, but to me seems to be a bit ahead of himself. his double-bass work meshes together so much it is hard to tell if he is ever on time. he hits the important quarter notes with both hand and foot, but inbetween there is something a-funk with his Double-bass work. i don't know, it just doesn't sound clean to me, nothing like reinert's smooth accuracy. just had to sound off there.
