.. which is prologued by a story.

So about a month and a half ago, I trade a bunch of my musical equipment in
for a new bass (for those of you who're curious, it's a Fernandes Gravity
4M, the all-maple one). I take it home, I love it, I baby it, I caress it,
and sometimes I sleep with it, because I am absolutely in love with this
bad-larry of a bass. Every night I would take it out, practice, then
gingerly place it back in its case and stash it with the rest of my stuff
    downstairs.

Well, now it gets interesting. I take the bass out about two weeks ago, and
the bottom corner, by the input jack, is sticky, like something got spilled
on it (which was entirely feasible, since I was having a party that night
and people were running around my house). So I get all kinds of pissed, wipe
the bass down, and check the interior of the case - it's sticky as well. I
put a cloth in the case where the majority of this crap is, then place the
bass back in there, hoping that most of this shit'll dry up.

Two days later, out comes the bass - not as sticky as before, but it still
has a small amount of this crap on it. The cloth - a dishtowel - is nearly
saturated. In the wash that goes, and since I don't have another dishtowel,
some napkins and paper towels go in.

Again, two days later, same situation, but this time I can see what color
this stuff is. It's a golden/yellow/brown type of stuff. Well, screw this,
out the bass comes, I wipe it down, and then I proceed to rip the entire
bass case apart, taking the inside lining and pulling it out to check the
bottom and whatnot. Well, I find nothing that strikes me, apart from more of
this sticky shit, so I put the case back together, and just as I'm ready to
put the case away, I find what I believe to be the culprit, lying dead on
the floor in front of me...

    .. a dead bee.

Anyone else ever have an experience like this, where a bee got stuck in
their guitar/bass/keyboard case? Or am I just a magnet in terms of having
fucked up shit happen to me?

I know - it just blew me away 'cause I wasn't expecting to hear it.

mind-blowing! the genre is surely having a comeback if it's mentioned in
    austin powers!

Do you think there was a run on Alan Parsons Project cds (giggle)?

I was really impressed at the sequal - usually part II's don't do that
well. Geez, everybody and their brother was in that movie.

This is one sick stuff! :)

Who's this drummer Tim Alexander? Worked with someone else?
Michael Manring is simply amazing. He's nuts. I have him playing one
song on a guitar tribute to Beatles where jazzers guitarist cover
Beatles songs (great album btw). So I guess he is a name in the jazz

welll.....to me, this seems like a do or die competition between
berkleY,berkleE,and good ol, stuffy Julliard. well hmm..im an aspiring
musician...any way you can get there before you reach college ? ( im a
sophmore in hs starting in the fall ). and ive been keeping tabs on music
    schools.

i dont know much about berkleY,all i know its southern california ( cross
coutry, since i DO live in alabama, but dont spread that around :) ).
BerkleE, man, liberal arts, lots of jazz, a huge school with tons of drummers
and guitarists im sure ( hey, what happened to the low end ? you know...that
really awesome term that makes a band sound good ( the BASSISTS!!
    yeah,baby,yeah! (AP2, couldnt help it! ).

and julliard, while i loved being harrassed by one of their student's mother
and father who happen to be the respected husband and wife pair at the music
hall at the college i attend for rehearsals on the weekend . so thanks to
them, i could go either liberal, or strictly classical pianist. being in
the northern us would be nice, but if Dave ( that UK jammer in Alabama now )<
could help me out with the UA work, that would help.

    thanks for you time,

    Hello everyone,
If the grammar/spelling police are on vacation, I'll step in and make a few
    corrections:
    It's Berkeley, not Berkley.
    It's incredible, not increadible.
    It's scholarship, not scholorship.
It's San Francisco, not San Frasisco (but that could have been a
    typographical error)

But that's OK, since Inferno is a musician. He doesn't have to spell. He
just has to play good music! Man, I wish I had musical talent. : ) No flame
here, I'm just a guy who makes his living editing and proofreading for a
football/basketball magazine and just edited a story about the California
Golden Bears from BERKELEY, Calif. : )

Calvin is right. I am a drummer so I will endorse his explaination. Most drummers use the double hi-hat configuration in order to have easy access to both closed and open hi-hat sounds when playing double bass. I also use it for that. I (and others) use it for double riding., i.e. playing the ride cymbal and accenting on the extra (auxillary) hi hat. I have my aux. hat on a cable. This is called a remote, or cable, hi-hat because it is a fully functional hi-hat, it can be opened and closed by the pedal. The pedal for the remote hi hat is seperaate from the main hi hat. It is used pretty much the same as the aux hat, but has what is called a drop clutch, which allows the hi-hat to close without using the pedal. To open it again, step on the pedal.

I think many did grok what you were saying. It's just more fun to argue. Our mailboxen grow hungry otherwise :) I have no problem with where you went with it.

My only point in originally replying to the greek lord Parthanon [:)] was about the potential for shit where people completely trash a new album.

My take on DT is that they're a different band all the time. They constantly reinvent themselves during the KebMo years or not. If I didn't already know, you could almost get away with telling me that they had switched keyboardists between WDADU and I&W, and I'd believe you. That's what I love about the band is they never get stale.

Suggestion (recurring): Now that Kevin has been gone long enough to free up the namespace, we could refer to James by his real name: Kevin LaBrie. Or simply just Kevin. Should make for some interesting jams :) "Now wait just a damn minute! Kevin has a 20 octave range????? But,But, there's only 88 keys!!!" AAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

    > Everyone who continues to bitch and whine about Kevin leaving the band > should just get over it. He's gone. Just face it and get on with your life. > Nothing you can do or say will bring him back. Go and do something more > productive like beat on a dead horse.

    Hi,

I've had this trade going with a jammer for what must be at least a year now, and the beeotch won't deliver on his end of the trade. I have lost most of my respect for him as he seems to have time for splooging posts on the jam, but not the 10 minutes it might take to 'do the right thing' and just plop the fucking CD in the mail already.

Perhaps a few more rounds with .50 cal into his sternum? Nick, if 20% or more of his torso is gone, can we rename him? Or at least claim ownership of his belongings? :)

    Regards, Jon
