Just got my LTE2 CD. I'm as blown away as when I got the 1st.. no.. maybe
even moreso. This has a much more cohesive feel to it. Even the improvs are
much more of a unit. Amazing what happens when talent like this plays
together for even a little while. They start to pickup on each others feel
    for things.

That would be Van Halen's "Jump" from the album "1984." A classic 80's song
if there ever were any. :)

OH GAWD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cant wait to listen to the new DT album, besides from all the hype, specially because theyre producing it themselves, like LTE 2, and GOD this cd sounds excellent! My only initial gripe on this first listen : When the water breaks at the 9:30 mark : who invited yanni to ruin this kickass riff?!!!! I was being blown away these first 9 and a half minutes of the song when sudenly my musical hard-on went soft with this "nod" (i prefer rip-off) to yanni..... its vile.

    Hi there jammers

Well Sasha, maybe what you heard was "Jump" by Van Halen from when David Lee Roth was on vocals back in the early 80s. I thing the song is from 1984.

And ppl stop bitching about your LTE II that hasn't arrived yet in your mailbox. Here in Greece it'll be another couple of months until I'll be able to find it in a local record store.

I sounds like you heard the Van Halen tune "Jump" off of their album 1984. Hope this helps.

Wow, so a change in keyboardist is unimportant??? Now THAT is an amazing statement...I'll personally say as someone who has been on the Jam for about the past 2 years about that These are some of the more fun discussions, except for the people who just spend their time saying "man, this sucks, talk about something else." They're more fun for me personally than what audio rig is better or bad trader threads or whatever, but you know what, I don't post anything about "Don't talk about it" I just skip past it and move on...Big Deal...heh. So, why Do I like the keyboardist threads??? Well, #1 they're actually DREAM THEATER RELATED!!! AMAZING!!!! What else??? Well, Me for one, being in New Orleans, there is NO one I know of here who cares anything about DT, so this is about the only place I CAN talk about Kevin and Derek and Jordan and everything...And for all those who hate discussions like this, think about it, the threads rarely veer from being pretty sensible until people start crying that there is a thread about Kev, Derek, Jordan and all....And I'll say this, that the Jam for the most part has been pretty bad again, If you all remember the Jam got pretty good, after it went offline for about a week, it was really nice, sensible, people were less bossy about what people talked about, then all of a sudden people got the red ass again...:( Skadz, drop the list again for a week to straighten these guys out...:)

A reportedly violent earthquake hit Mexico (this morning i believe) I hope our mexican jammers are allright , i wonder if derek was down there during the quake, or was he going to travel back and forth each day ( i doubt it) ( he had a clinic in Puebla yesterday (15th) and that is the most affected part of mexico...and has one scheduled for today as well...

I think most people go through the "discovery" of long songs. It's a fun process... ;-)

Radar Love (Golden Earring) -- 6 minutes? A cool song, but it sure is long...

Life's Been Good To Me (Joe Walsh) -- Wow, I had time to run upstairs, find a blank tape and stick it in to record before the *intro* was even over on this song...

American Pie -- Sheesh, this song has more lyrics than I've ever heard before... but I sure like to sing along.

Stairway to Heaven -- Rock songs can't get much longer than this, can they??

Paradise by the Dashboard Lights -- Well, I guess they can....

Roundabout (Yes) -- What the heck is this music? It's like eight and a half minutes long and has three distinct sections. Whoa, listen to that bass player.

Feel Like I Do -- Geez, I thought Roundabout was the longest song on the radio, but then I heard this Peter Frampton guy making his guitar sound like talking for almost 14 minutes.

In a Gadda da Vidda -- 17 minutes? A drum solo in the middle? What were these guys thinking? Holy cow.

Close to the Edge -- I was gonna buy a Yes tape the other day since Roundabout has been growing on me and I found "Close to the Edge" but the stupid tape had only THREE songs on it for 8 bucks!?! What a rip off.

Whoops. My friend said that the songs on "Close to the Edge" averaged over 12 minutes. I guess that's not so bad.

2112 -- I was listening to this top 500 countdown and this song came on and it just kept going and going and it told this cool story about this guy who wanted to play the guitar in this future society that hated free expression and it must have been 20 minutes! I love it! We have assumed control!

Thick as a Brick (Jethro Tull) -- Oh my god, there's only ONE song on this album and it's 45 minutes long... But, damn is it cool. I wish they'd play the whole thing on the radio instead of only the first 5 minutes.

Passion Play (Jethro Tull) -- Another album that's only ONE song. Sheesh, that Ian Anderson guy loves his long songs... I had to buy two versions of the CD since the first one had a break in the middle where the original album had to be turned over. My new CD just has one 42 minute track. Cool!

Enlightenment -- Now that I'm looking for 'em, I can't believe how many long songs there are! Cool!

    - "Supper's Ready" clocks in at over 20 minutes. - Most of the songs on Pink Floyd's "Animals" - the Dream Theater CD has that cool song the Itsajam guys petitioned for, "Change of Seasons", - Tales for Topographic Oceans + Gates of Delirium - APSOG - Starless - The Sky Moves Sideways - a cool one called "Canto IV" by Discipline, . - and so on...

Most everyone goes through the long song "discovery" phase so don't be too hard on 'em... :-)

Right, but I'm talking about in a live setting. I don't care how much you improv in the studio - it's totally different in a performance-type atmosphere.

LOL! That would have to be Van Halen's "Jump" off their album 1984. That was a pretty popular song in its time.

    Response to my post:

    >I think some people here are missing the point of having a FAQ in the first place.

Lets not drift away here, my post was about people rudely re-directing others(new people) to the FAQ. Ive read it and I think its pretty cool that people would put that together for a band without any pay. But it's just a question of not pushing away people who might someday become as into this band as we all are. Remember, they have friends who have friends who...

Let's look at another example: A new DT fan comes onto the net, but *doesn't* join the list - he *hates* mailing lists. But, he does have some questions about DT. Where should he go >to find the answers?

He should look for the official page and read things like bios and the FAQ.

The FAQ was not created as an exercise to keep questions off of the Ytsejam.

I'm sure it wasn't, and since this discussion is over for me let me just say this.

    Be a little nicer thats all...ignorance doesn't=stupidity
