Yeah, well.. I really like it when songs and especially album titles have
nice names. Like "A Momentary lapse Of Reason", "Delicate Sound Of Thunder",
that sort of stuff... Like "A Pleasant Shade Of Grey", "The Divine Wings Of
Tragedy"... you get my point :-)).
Unfornately, even though I know the titles of songs on LTE 1 & 2, I just
heard "another dimension" version from the album and live :-)). I`m planning
on getting them both in the near future... hopefully.

I have listened to DT for close to 8 years....yet before i came here I had

Its kinda funny cuz I basically gave DT credit for progressive music.

    Greetings, people.

Several interesting comments regarding Bahr's Prism releases have
cropped up lately. For starters, someone (Nick Bogovich, perhaps?)
mentioned that Bahr had tried to pass off some material as DT music when
it in fact was not. I'm aware that this is the case with the "Autumn
Moon" piece on Scenes from a Memory; has he done this anywhere else? I
always found it difficult to believe that the horrendous acoustic piece
on Subconscious titled "Experimental" was actually Myung.

Also, did Bahr rip off Myung's instructional video on Precious Things?
There are a few odd tracks on that disc which are supposedly from
Japanese archival tapes. Is this a line of feces?

    Thanks for any info.

Ok, I'm a little sensitive about the "upstate" thing. New york is about
300 miles tall. Not counting NYC, I live on like, Mile FOUR. I can be on
the GW bridge in 15 minutes, and most anywhere in manhatten in 35-40. I
had to drive those 300 miles up and down to school for 4 years - that
school is 20 minutes from canada! And my county should be in the same
catagory? feh! Rockland would never qualify. On the obnoxious car scale,
the tinted window/tricked out supsension bimmers far outnumber the
    sans-muffler "sport" pickups.

Finally some discussion about this song and it's all
    about the title...

914 and Hourglass seem like the forgotten songs on
LTE2. All the other songs have had someone come out
and say "Hey I like this one".

So let me go on record saying that I really like 914.
The "Egyptian" feel is cool, and so is that pounding
Levin bass. I also really like the soloing that JR
does. I would say that this song caught my ear first
    out of all of them.

I think that this disc may be a creeper. It really
didn't "catch me" on the first couple of listens, then
"Living in Fear" stuck in my head. Seems to be getting
    better with more listens.

The one thing that may be holding it back is a lack of
"catchy" vocals. Not that we want Micheal Jackson
here, but the vocals (and vocal melodies) don't seem
to stick well. They're not cheesy though, IMHO.

As for the vocalist himself, he really reminds of the
guy who used to sing for the Micheal Schenker Group
(Gary Barden?). Anyone else see that similarity? (I
guess that question is for the ytse-geriatrics out
    there). ;o)

depends on how you define "overall". I'm coming from that no man's land
where people think that there was a subtle, but very definite shift that
took place between I&W and Awake, from an equal partnership kind of deal on

obviously, there was the "Kevin was about to leave" thing going on in the
band at that time, so maybe Moore wasn't fighting for his as hard as he did
previously, and maybe that's why Awake is far more guitar oriented (at least
in my opinion) than Dream Theater's previous output, but i think that
"between albums" break period represents for me an even greater shift in the
band's sound that the change from Domenici to Labrie, or Moore to
    Sherinian....

anyone understand where I'm aiming this opinion gun? I realize I'm being
kinda creative about my definition of "shifting sound".....
