    Think about not posting stupid things like this again. 96.5% of the
    people on this board think the greatest guitarist is not Jimi. Are they
    wrong? No, just different. What you're posting is simply flame war
    fodder. An intelligent poster doesn't do this.

    Hey Jammers:

    All this talk about other bands is having a bad influence. While in my local
    used CD store over the weekend, i saw a copy of APSoG by FW. Now i had never
    really paid attention to them (i do own Chasing Time -- but in the year or
    so i've owned it, i've listened to it maybe 3 times). But for some reason
    when i saw APSoG, i had to have it. Maybe it was the $3 price; or maybe you
    kids are evil, pure evil i tell ya. Oh well, let's give it a listen;
    couldn't hurt, right...

    On another note -- anyone heard of a band called Memory Garden. i heard a
    song of theirs -- Awkward Tale -- yesterday on the Metal channel of DirecTV.
    Cool sounding song in places; however, the production quality sounded
    straight out of the mid-80s. But, with everything old becoming new
    again...it was hard to pin down a time period. These guys still around;
    and/or any album of theirs worthy of a check out? Thanx, in advance, for any
    info.

    Take care

    Hi evrybody. I'm Ivan from CMKY, a band inside the DT tribute. I try to understand.... but i cannot do it. Why some people have to tell me that I'm a Dream THeater clone, that I want always to be famous and have a new image from this project? All that we (cmky) are doing is only a cover of our favourite band, only to thanks Portnoy and the other member of the Dreams. we will not take money from this project. we will not do it for other reason only this. so, i can tell you that we are so inspired from Dream theater, but we don't play only this kind of music. we aren't a Dream Theater Clone. anyway, I think that this album will be a great tribute. I have listen the medley of Empty tremor and "a fortune...." from Evil wings. you cannot imagine what this band have do.....

    escuse me for this e-mail, but for me it's important that nobody thinks bad of my band.

    Stay prog. Ivan - CMKY.

    Pplz,

    For those of you who may have missed the news at UACM (no one has posted about it yet), John Petrucci will be doing a guitar clinic on Monday, March 15, at 7pm, at "Daddy's Hartford" in New Britain, CT. If anyone wants to meet up earlier on that day, e-mail me! Also, I will be coming from Allentown, PA ... If anyone lives anywhere along the way (I'm not gonna go *too* far out of it) and absolutely *needs* a ride to New Britain, I have 3 seats available in my car. :) The number of the place is (860)224-4648, if you need directions of your own.

    That's all for now ...

    Well yesterday in the mail my Infinity cd, the latest opus from Mr Townsend arrived. Good Lord this cd rules!! Its like Ocean Machine on crack. Out of all the cd's purchased in '98 OM was my favorite and it looks like Infinity might be my favorite for '99. That is if Dream Theater doesn't release anything this year. Does anyone have any news on Devin's next release? I heard that me is starting work on the next Strapping Young Lad album soon. What about another Ocean Machine?

    Well if you don't have these cd's yet and your looking for some intense music grab both of these cd's. Devin Townsend is a genius.

    Later all

    any of you folks into the freddy jones band? I've hyped them around here before, although not in a while.....they've a new live disc out called, "A Mile High Live," if any were interested.....

    as for the title, keep in mind the fact that they also contributed a song to the Hempilation 2 compilation.....but we won't go there.....

    new toy....my bro got a thing thru mail order a while ago, and i was messing around with it.....it's some kind of transmitter thingy, where you can play a tape on a walkman type device, and set the transmitter to an "empty" radio station, one without any clear signal coming through, basically, and what's on the tape in the walkman will then come through the speakers of the attached radio.....so long, the day of me listening to the radio while i commute (except for the fact that the signal never comes in without some static, it would be perfect)

    -> ytsejam(a)ax.com Hello all,

    Whilst skimming a few past jams, somebody posted that they spend upwards on average 200 dollars per month on CDs. I'm sure that's what I saw before I deleted it.

    Now, in proper money :) , that's about 130 GB pounds and maybe about 8-10 CDs in the UK. How on earth do you get the time to listen 'properly' to that amount of CDs per month? My average spend is about 30-40GBP which is roughly 3-4 CDs per month.

    Maybe that's why I'm constantly trying to catch up with everybody else with my ever expanding 'must-buy' list.

    Where can I get a job as a 'professional-student'? Please let me know :)

    Regards,

    Ashley.

    Hey all,

    Haven't seen any mention of Kevin Moore's new release here, so I thought I'd pass this along.

    ------

    The new Colorblind CD Single, containing radio edits of 3 DAFR tracks, and 3 early demos, will be released on February 26 exclusively through this web site (www.chromakey.com).

    1. Colorblind (radio edit) 2. On The Page (radio edit) 3. Even The Waves (radio edit) 4. Blanket (demo) 5. On The Page (early demo) 6. Even The Waves (demo)

    Notes: "On the Page" is not the '95 CK demo version, but an earlier one. "Blanket" is an early demo from the Santa Fe period that has never been officially released. All of the demos have been remastered for the single. The CD comes in a full color sleeve.

    Hi all! I got into a bit of an argument with a friend this weekend over DT. He has never heard of them, and says that since this is the case, they must not be any good. He obviously doesn't understand the politics behind a band's popluarity. Believe me, I tried my best to make him understand it, but he was too stubborn to listen to me. The favor I ask is this: send him an email and just put Dream Theater in the subject line. This will tell him just how many people are DT fans, and how devoted they are to the band. His address is: cswright@rollins.edu Anyway, thanks for the help. Maybe I can convince him to take a listen...

    Allo guys!

    Just got back from Stuttgart/Germany and managed to get my hands on a couple prog CDs. Here's my opinion based on a couple of listens:

    Ivory Tower

    I bought this based on a couple jammers recomendations. So far I can say this is quite a diappointment. I think I'll throw this in my 'quasi prog' basket to make company to Altura and alike. The whole album is so heavily cliched it makes me sick. The band does use quite an arsenal of unusual rythms, but the melodies sound very uninspired to me, infact the whole album sounds dull, emotionless, very progwanabe. The vocals and lyrics are the worst part, heavy german accent and weak vocal. Lemme show ya an excerpt of lyrics, you'll get the idea: 'People in the downtown streets, Selling food and unusual things, Drinking water eating rice, A young boy sitting with his mother, Silently endures the day, Brothers making it alright... ' And it keeps getting worse :P Sharp, squeechy guitars, half buried in the mix and solos without any direction or control. Except of few bright moments and a few half interesting harmonies, this album is complete junk! Worst 30 DEM I have ever spent. Send me 10 bucks and I'll ship ya this 'thing'.

    Chromakey - dead air for radios

    While it's not making me cream my pants instantly I can sense this album is gonna be a winner after a few more listens. I kinda miss heavier guitar parts and solos, but exciting piano/synth lines make up for it. This is definately an original music (or at least I haven't heard alike yet). Kevin doesn't have a very strong voice, but it kinda suits this moody, atmospheric music, very spacedyevest-like. The only thing that really bothers me are some of the voice samples that just don't do anything for me. Maybe I'm expecting those amazing Awake samples to pop out.

    Dilema 'Imbrocatta' (NOT Dali's Dilemma)

    This album was so rediculously cheap that I just had to buy it. A few extremely interesting harmonies but tends to get a bit boring. Not your typical prog, those daring to try something different should definately give it a listen. Cool artwork.

    Bela Fleck and the Flecktones - Left Of Cool

    Maybe this suits more into jazz/fusion/experimental area, but I still find it quite prog (NOT prog metal). The stuff these guys do will make your head spin! Extreme banjo lines with cool funky basslines, a couple sax/horns and a synth-drumitar seems to be the perfect formula for a grammy :) This album is WAAAY cool, go and grab a copy, do yourself a huge favour.

    Bad Nest - Facing Reality

    A local prog band. Check my Ivory Tower review and add lousy production. But thumbs up for trying, guys :)

    ooook... 'nuff
