Actually, if you COPY their looks and image, you are a poser. If you
dislike them for their change in appearance, then you are judgemental. Me?
    I'm a bigot. I think Metallica's all gay and don't like 'em anymore. :)

Strangely it was indirectly. As she was forwarding my private mail to the

about people unsubbing. It Mike hadn't have send me the mail, I'd probably

As for inflicting myself upon thousands of people, that's a bad thing. I've

    Hey,

YAN GONZALEZ did say: >So Nicole, you said that Union is a 'must have' for anyone interested in >Yes. Would you like to recommend another one, or should I start with >this.. ? Thanx a lot.

I would go for a compilation like Yes Story - it will give you a broad selection, you should be able to find the era that suits you most (or you might find that you like all of it - as I do).

    >Dave Ware wrote about Kate Bush.. >Who's this girl. I know only her "Wuthering Hights" in a version of >Angra's Angel Cry.(What a version !!!!) Would you please refresh my >memory with some track of her at least semi known ???

I did didn't I, well - hits from the eighties include - Babooshka, The Man With The Child In His Eyes, Cloudbursting, Running Up That Hill...etc, if you like Tori you'll probably like Kate.

    Hope this helps,

    Hi everyone,

First of all, thank you to everyone who gave me information about the DC Cooper solo cd. Especially Carol (aka Coldfire).

I ended up ordering it from Alta Mira, last Saturday night. Neil said he'd mail it Monday, 2-day priority and that I should have it Wednesday... I got it today, right on schedule. The service was great! Neil was very friendly and professional (I called in my order) and I got what I was promised. I'll certainly order from him again. Here's the URL for Alta Mira for all interested:

    http://members.aol.com/amcyber1/Homepage/AM.htm

As for the cd, it is very good! (There is an MP3 of Freedom floating around out there which is a great song) Cooper's voice is incredible as usual.

The cd ended up costing me $32.25 after S&H, etc. ($28 for the cd). It's a Japanese import so... I don't know when/if it will be released in the US. But that's worth it for a great cd :)

So, for all Cooper fans, check out this cd! For anyone else looking to order import cds, check out Alta Mira! Take care.

    Sincerely, Irene

Well, I'm not the biggest jazz collector, but I really like jazz when it's live.

Here's two extremes in "jazz" you might check out:

Miles Davis - Kind of Blue (a classic, early, improv jazz recording)

Steely Dan - Aja (a classic jazz-rock album)

    my $.02, BH

BTW, they're both very progressive. ;o)

As for Fates, all I know is that Jim Matheos' solo album is done, should be released soon and that he is writing the new material for the next Fates album... No telling when they start recording. Mark Zonder has a project going with Eric Zimmerman, Ray is going to be doing a solo album for Metal Blade, and Ray, Mark and Joey were supposed to be working together on a project called Maggie Speaks, but I haven't heard much about that lately... I read someone's request to know more about Kate Bush. I suggest surfing the Net and checking out her Website. There are some excellent sites out there filled with lots of interesting information.

I think Kate is an extraordinary artist who often pushes the boundaries of musical experimentation. She is an unusual artist and one you will either love or hate.

Her first album is The Kick Inside (1977). Dave Gilmour (executive producer on a couple of songs) 'discovered' her. I may be wrong, but I'm under the impression that she was 16 when Wuthering Heights came out?

She's not a prolific artist, preferring to spend time recording and writing. She's a recluse and doesn't tour anymore. She's worked with some interesting people like Eric Clapton, Prince, Peter Gabriel, The Trio Bulgarka and others.

Her most 'commercial' album is the "Hounds of Love" but I love "Never For Ever". She hasn't had many hits and the most notable, aside from 'Wuthering Heights' is "Running Up That Hill" from the 'Hounds of Love". I do suggest you give her listen and decide for yourself.

BTW, in regards to Tori citing her as influence. I had read somewhere after Little Earthquakes was released (buggered if I can remember where!) that she hadn't heard of Kate Bush?

The information is sketchy I know, but I prefer to let people discover Kate for themselves. She's too eclectic and diverse for me too begin to describe her music.

    Vanessa.

What ever happened to Dream Theater in Australia?

Yeah, and I know all about the propositions we put forward that never got accepted.

What I can't understand is the fact that Dream Theater has never really been looked at before by radio stations in oz. For other Aussie jammers, could you imagine how cool it would be to hear something like PMU, HY, or Lie on stations like SAFM, Triple M, and Triple J? For starters, HY would absolutely kick arse. All the wussy people that like the Backstreet Boys (nothing against them) would love it. Secondly, something like Lie or BMS would do pretty well in the charts here for the real heavy metal heads around here. If DT could get some recognition here, people in oz would buy the rest of their albums to see what they were like, absolutely love them (after all, didn't we all in cringe in ecstasy after first hearing LTL and ACOS?), and then DT would have to tour here!!!!!!!

    My $0.02.

Well, if you would have read my entire post you would have read in the first couple lines that I said, and I quote "You can sit there and try to categorize all day, but you will always find exceptions to the categories...Let's just say Prog is a certain "sound" that we all recognize, and leave it at that...:) " Yeah, musical definitions are no good, I agree with that, and my post wasn't trying to argue what prog is and isn't, but more just an argument against what the other guy said about how music has to change to be prog, and if you can't tell that HitNF was regression instead of progression, then I feel sorry for you...:)

Now, that said. I don't care what anyone thinks is prog and what isn't, but I wanted to point out that your definition of "prog" is based entirely on your subjective opinion of a particular band's work. FII was a new direction and you liked it; so you call it progressive. HitNF was a new direction and you didn't like it; so it's merely "change." That kind of definition doesn't do anyone any good (not that musical definitions do anyway) because it's based only on your personal opinion of an album's quality. -Brian

i got a newsletter from musician's friend, and was surprised to see this:

    > We would like to start out by welcoming some great new product > lines to our site. The first is Ibanez guitars and basses. These > incredible guitars are played by such artists as Steve Vai, Joe > Satriani, Pat Metheny, John Scofield, John Petrucci, Paul Gilbert, > Paul Westerberg, Korn, White Zombie, The Offspring, Cracker, and > many more. Come see why all of these musician's prefer Ibanez!

    followed immediately by:

    > The second line we've added to our arsenal of gear is Tama. Played > by some of the world's best drummers like Mike Portnoy of Dream > Theater, Lars Ulrich of Metallica, Bill Bruford of King Crimson and > Kenny Aronoff of Smashing Pumpkins, this incredible line of impressive

I knew DT was not underground but Mike Portnoy mentioned before Lars Ulrich? In this day and age when popularity counts more than talent (why else do i see kurt cobain on the cover of Guitar magazine and korn's guitarists writing a column inside?) im surprised. Is DT really THAT big? Heh. And since i've never had the opportunity to go see DT live, about how much to tickets cost when DT is headlining? That's usually a decent measure of the band's popularity - <$5 = local punk band. $5-10 = punk or metal band with a bit of a following. $10-20 = a band signed to a small major label (like epitaph or fat in the case of punk, or relapse or nuclear blast in the case of metal). $20-30 = quite big. you probably see people on the street wearing their shirt. $30-50 = commercial! korn tickets cost $30. i know, i'm going to go see em march 30. above $50 is Van Halen range. Heh. i dunno about other kinds of music as i rarely go to shows that aren't punk or metal. moo.

I've noticed the question being raised on the jam about what was going on with Yes and the ABWH band in the late 80's. Being a diehard Yes fan, I had to chime in . . .

Yes and ABWH were two completely different bands. Yes in the 80's was a successfull pop/metal band. They formed (or reformed depending on where you stand) in 1982 as the metal band Cinema. The lineup was Trevor Rabin (Guitars/Vocals), Chris Squire (Bass/Vocals), Alan White (Drums/Vocals), and Tony Kaye (Keyboards). They had no intention of carrying on as Yes. Yes had split up in 1980. Howe and Downes went on to form Asia. Horne went on to produce, and Squire and White formed Cinema with Rabin. It was only when they were halfway thru recording their first album as Cinema that Anderson joined and they renamed the band Yes. After all, every member of Cinema had been a member of Yes at one time or another except for Rabin. (Kaye had been keyboardist from 1968-1971)

Anderson left Yes in 1988 after the "Big Generator" tour. Since Squire was the only original member to have been on EVERY album Yes had ever made, he retained the rights to the name. The four "Cinema" guys were going to continue as Yes so it's obvious why ABWH couldn't use the name. Neither Steve Howe nor Rick Wakeman had been original members of Yes Bruford had left in 72, and they had done one album in the 70s which featured a singer other than Anderson. When ABWH billed their tour as "An Evening of Yes Music," Yes sued them. (Specifically, Squire sued them.)

In 1991, ABWH and Yes came to an agreement and merged their new recordings on one album and called it Union. The Union tour was just a merger of the two bands onstage. Contrary to what has been posted on the jam, NOT EVERY PAST MEMBER OF YES WAS ON THAT ALBUM OR TOUR. Original guitarist Pete Banks was not invited. Former keyboardist Patrick Moraz was busy getting kicked out of the Moody Blues. The other former keyboardist, Geoff Downes was still a member of Asia. And former singer Trevor Horne was still producing. After the tour, Bruford, Wakeman and Howe split again leaving the 80s lineup to do their final album.

In 1995, Rabin left to pursue a career in film music. He's recently found had some successfull scores. He wrote the orchestral scores for Armageddon, Enemy of the State, and Conn Air. Tony Kaye also left in 1995. That same year, Howe and Wakeman rejoined for a live reunion concert and two reunion albums. Both were released as seperate double disc sets, Keys to Ascension in 1996, and Keys to Ascesnion II in 1997. After the recording of Keys to Ascension II, Wakeman left Yes to start a Gospel music label, and pursue the recording of his new solo album. He was replaced by Russian Concert Pianist Igor Khoroshev. They also invited Trevor Rabins old understudy Billy Sherwood to join and this new 6 man lineup recorded the album Open Your Eyes, which was released in late 1997. They had a rather successful tour and are now busy recording their next album. That in a nutshell is what has been up with Yes. Now, back to another prog band we all know and love who also has problems keeping keyboardists in the band . . .

    Later, Robert
