    More than
    A few observations.

    > BTW, anybody know what Kate's been up to lately?
Me an' her have been kickin Dave Gilmour's insides, trying to
persuade him to get out of bed and write a new Floyd album.

I hope to hell that he's at least thinking about a new Floyd album:
"Um, hellow this is United States calling Dave Gilmour, are we
    reaching....he Fucking hung up....i think that was a girl's
voice,....sounded like Kate Bush!" Damit write a new album!

    >Currently in the car's changer:
    > 5.) Saturday Night Fever - Soundtrack (disco lives)
Uh huh. Okay, like WHY?? Should we be worried?

Nothing's wrong with a little disco now and again! I pop that one
in when i'm feeling funky, or getting ready for a date. Nothing
better to get you in that date mood than some SNF!

    > As for Metallica: They sold out. It's up to you whether or not you care.
    OH NO! NOT THIS AGAIN!!

I don't think they 'sold-out' but they did change, and IMHO not for
the better! I hated the black album when it came out, cause it
didn't seem like Metallica to me. But when L & R-L came out i
fucking loved the Black album... cause L & R-L sucked hard! I guess
i never really aprecaited the Black album until they put out some
total SHIT! IM-NSH-O the only songs on these two albums worth
listening to are: hero of the day, cure, the unforgiven II, thorn
within and the outlaw torn (my favorite song of the two cd's).
I think The Outlaw Torn and Thorn Within sound more like the
oldschool Metallica than any other of the songs.
As for them cutting thier hair, if i had hair to my ass for like 10
years i'd probably cut it all off too!
Someone posted earlier that if they put out another AJFA or MOP they
wouldn't buy it. Well i sure as hell would. If we got an AJFA II
i'd be the first M-fucker in line. But if we got ReReLoad i woudn't
    bother getting out of bed!

    >(note that they swore they'd never do a video, cut their hair, or wear
    >makeup, all of which they thrive on now)
Note that they also gloated that Metallica didn't need huge light
shows and flashy stage sets back when they were trawling RTL about
the globe. Now look at the Justice... tour and EAT THEM WORDS!!!

Well they also didn't have the money back then to even consider a
fancy light show. And i think that is for the FANS to enjoy. Floyd
didn't do any extravagant light shows when they were on thier
Animals tour (usually the fans provided that via acid and mary jane)
but they have a hellova light show now that they have the money to
    give back to the fans!

OH DEAR!!! Obviously that makes it a sell-out, because it ACTUALLY
SOLD RECORDS!!! Well, I've been so stupid for all this time - I'm
gonna go home and throw out all those other records when the band
sold out (that is to say, Ptacek would have us believe, they sold
records:) - I'm gonna bin "Dark Side of the Moon", "The Wall",

I'm glad your were kidding about DS and the Wall or i'd open up an
good ol' can of whoop ass on you....hehe

    > (don't even tell me Lars is a great drummer, or Hammett studied
    Lars is a great drummer.
Lars its a hellova drummer, i will second that anyday.

phew, thank God that's over with...
    > PS: DT content - wonder how far they (DT) got with the new album before
    Mike
    > and Marlene Portnoy had their newborn event?
Maybe now they're taking a break, it'd be a good time for an update
from JR or one of the others; since Mike's otherwise engaged?

    Si wants Emma Ledden.
sorry about my ignorance but who the hell is she?!

(p.s., let's follow Korg's trend: everyone hold up their hands and
say who they like - banned names inc. Kate Bush, Tori AMos)

Does it have to a girl from music???? i'd take meg ryan and a 1/5 of
    scotch (Glenlivet 18)

cd rotation: Jeff Buckly "Grace", Type O''Negative "October Rust",
DT "OIALT", Manowar "Kings of Metal" Jethro Tull "20 years of tull"

You didn't mention was that he wrote the *WORST* songs. I'm not talking
about the worst Beatles songs (which were typically pretty good), I'm
talking about how he wrote the WORST SONGS EVER WRITTEN. Check out
Abbey Road. "Octopus' Garden", what the fuck!?? I can write shit like
that in my sleep, that doesn't mean that I want to release in on an
album that people will actually pay money to hear! The WORST songs were
    always Ringo's.

I think Lars' new minimalist drumming philosophy is based on the
fact that he smokes too much pot, drinks too much and generally has
degraded to the point of having a hard time keeping time.

    -The Doc

I have a minimalist philosophy for my life for just about the same
    reasons.

Does that make me a bad person?

I've only got two, which I have saved as "Creedence" and "Nectar"
(who knows if these are the actual song titles). Quite a big difference
on the vocals in these two songs, but then again I don't have the full
songs, only 2:30 samples or so. I just love the way "Creedence" starts
out, with spooky acoustic guitar reminescent of Alice In Chains. I
sometimes get sick of the "growling" the guy from In Flames does, but
for the most part, the rest of the band kicks so much ass I don't mind.

I will gladly second that. One song always comes to mind when I think of
such: "Lifting Shadows off a Dream." I can't imagine why. I had to change
my underwear after first hearing his cymbal routine on that one.
    *spoooooge*

As far as Lars' shitty technique is concerned... I still respect Lars even
if he has regressed as a drummer. Just as I still respect Kurt Cobain even
if he was a shitty guitar player. I hate to say it, but if it weren't for
"Smells Like Teen Spirit" inspiring me to start learning guitar, I probably
wouldn't be on this list or where (not whore, dammit) I'm at as a musician
    today (absolutely nowhere, but skilled).

Same with Lars. He was a huge inspiration to my friend Matt and was
responsible for him playing drums. Eddie Van Halen *gasp* was why I wanted
to learn keys. Jeff Ament was first (and Cliff Burton later) responsible
for my love of bass... heheheh. Just think back to when you started out as
musicians and who it was who got you started... You DO have them to thank,
whether you like 'em now or not. :)

And I beg to differ with you. :)

Not having the guts to resist is NO kind of excuse. We have free will, and can only be brainwashed if we allow ourselves to be. Plus, if we encounter such people in our lives, we have a responsibility to ourselves to avoid contact with them. Thus the negative situation will be averted.

    >DTC: Listening to Dream Theater while intoxicated is a worthless >experience.

I agree with you there, 100%. I just never understood the point of people getting drunk or stoned before/during a concert. I know all the potheads will say that the weed gives them the "clarity" to concentratemoree intently on the show. Personally, I'd rather have memories of what ACTUALLY happened than memories of what my drug-induced stupor allowed me to PERCEIVE as what happened. All those who like to smoke up before/during a concert can say what they want; their comments will only make me feel pity for their inability to find, in their own conciousnesses (is that a word?), aspects of the performance that I can find WITHOUT the "aid" of mind-altering chemicals.

That's *exactly the song I was thinking of when I posted that =) MP, even on the slow stuff, makes you think, and as a drummer, I can say that that helps 250%... the guy is a freakshow on hi-hat accents ;)

Just think back to when you started out as > musicians and who it was who got you started... You DO have them to thank, > whether you like 'em now or not. :)

Like I said, And Justice For All is a *great* drum album, but, my first inspiration for becoming a drummer would be Tommy Lee... people can say what they want about him about this and that, but, still, after all I've listened to, that man *owns* the copyright for kickass grooves... he made Crue's simple songs scream, and the more off the ground ones retain stability... Of course, later on I discovered MP, but, believe it or not, I hold them both in equal reverance, and Lars coming in in 2nd perhaps... 3rd? any drummers that played on Malmsteen albums, he knows how to pick em ;) Just my opinion, mind you...
