I agree. Take a listen to Money on Dark Side..., okay? Try and tell me
that the riff is either complex, or sounds anything other than natural
and flowing. And yet it's in 7/4! Oooh, too complex to sell, surely?

    >like your kind of music is really ridiculous. I'm not saying that
Actually, I think they're saying that he deserved to die because he
was a dick; that he made shit music (music...I jest, of course) was
merely a symptom of his being a dick. The opponents of this thread
seem to be sharing in this culturally-created delusion that all life
is worth saving. Get with it, it's not. The human race would be an
awfull lot nicer if it forgot about this ludicrous concept - there
comes a point when life isn't worth saving. Hoon was one of the
30%-or-so who we'd all be better off without.

I've gotta correct two Bonham slip-ups here. Brian lumped JB in with
Hendrix, Joplin and Morrisson, and went into a long-overdue
demolition of those three. I just want to be sure that he wasn't
implying JB was involved with Heroin, because he WASN'T. His death
was from the equally destructive, yet legal, drug alcohol, sp. vodka.
The other one was about Bonham dying before ITtOD, which he obviously
didn't, but someone else has beat me to it. As far as ITtOD itself
goes...The only thing that gets my goat is "All My Love" - but only
lyrically. Musically, it sounds like modern Pink Floyd - the solo
section is so simple but it's so great as well. AND it's all in 4/4.

I'll get round to talking about the Zep stuff later; I gotta do an
    assignment right now.

That's interesting, as I happen to think 'No Quarter' and 'Over The Hills And Far Away' are anything BUT "by far" the worst thing Zep has ever done :) The guitar solo on No Quarter is relatively straightforward, I guess, but has groove written all over it.

    > And, to clarify, Bonham died *after* ITtOD and the European tour, but > before the American tour. Zeppelin never recorded another song after he > died, although they did release some old cuts as the album "Coda" a year or > two after his death.

Thanks for clearing that up, I wasn't sure and just noticed I forgot the question mark at the end. It was a question though, honest :) I haven't bought any Zep since Prescene. From what little I've heard (radio mostly), the drumming on their later stuff seemed to be so compratively weak it was hard to believe it was Bonham, at the least the Bonham I remember. Then again, their sound changed rather drastically across the board...

Huh? Si used "In The Evening" from ITtOD to say it was BETTER. Stay with me Brian :)

Not sure if you missed my point, as it got rather thick, but to clarify (yeah, right :):

In any case, I was using sarcasm to indicate how utterly rediculous it is to compare something like "When I'm 64" which is something like from the genre [:)] of maybe Vaudeville or some English bar tune (whatever, you know what I mean) to "In the Evening" which is what? A melange :) Some straightahead rock, yet Page starts doing some electric twangy country like bends? Not even Apples and Oranges. Apples and wood products :)))) Lyrically? Ok, fine, so one is person hoping they'll be loved and taken care of some number of years from now saying "will you still need me, will you still feed me" while the other is apparently hoping to get "taken care of" TONIGHT saying "oooh.....ohhh , i need yo luv", heheheh... therein the similarities end for me. c'mon, be serious....this isn't even close :)

SOOOOOOOOOO... I compared Hot Dog, a fucking country song by Zep :), to Helter Skelter..... if you don't know what type of category Helter Skelter belongs to, please unsubscribe now :) Wasn't that a ludicrous enough comparison to drive home the point? Hope that clears up any confusion :)))

Look, I'm not trying to say the Beatles are THE be all and end all to musicianship, people. They got to where they were in a similar way that Zep did, mostly on the fact that they gave a lot of people what they wanted at the time musically: something different. And someone saw a way to capitalize on this. It was basically a continuation of the rebellion of the youth of the 50's, playing music loud, being counter-culture, anti-establishment, whatever you wanna call it.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the music. However, I'm quite sure there were plenty of excessively talented musicians back then that never got good press but should have. It's no different today then it was back then. Change the sounds around that people like better, fine. The game is still the same... Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose :)

JK: << .....His riffs sound like some real good blues running through Via's huge midi stack. >> > WHO THE FUCK IS THIS VIA DUDE? IS HE ANY GOOD? IS HIS LAST NAME SATELLITE?

His name is Ah Via. He replaced Eric Johnson as the main guitarist on Ah Via Musicom. They let Eric tune Ah's guitar on it, though. :))))))))

This is cool! I like how you gave a 'feel' to the math of it all. I enjoy this shiz as it applies to the stuff that kicks me in the ass the hardest :)

I've been told that 'Just Let Me Breathe' at 3:21 is in 5/x, and it seems very lively to me. I'm probably wrong, but it seems as if it's also the juxtaposition of the slower tempo right before it ("Now they're dead and buried", heh, PLEASE DON'T START THAT THREAD AGAIN :)))), that makes that the 5/x part seem lively. It's like they go into double speed all of a sudden. DT knows how to set me up so well :) Mike, if you're listening, could you include a song on the next album that's ENTIRELY in 5/4? :))) Do the laws of physics allow this?

And after just listening to http://jonfinn.com/timbuktu28.ra (obligatory Jon Finn reference :), which I've been told is in 15/16, I think I see what you mean a little.

Is it because it takes more time for the 1-beat (is that what you call it?) to come around each time? Or is it just that the tempo seems a little more laid back on the Finn tune? Or is it that on that part in JLMB, that fill that Portnoy is doing (a triplet?) to bring it back to the 1-beat? I have little clue-age, just like what I hear :)

When asked, after an argument with a Greek reporter, if Matt was referring to Metallica, Jon said: "maybe, but he didn't mention their name" (!!!!!!, no comments). He even said that he would sue the reporter who wrote that Matt mentioned the name Metallica, even though every single person in that club knew the hint was about them. He was asked many times after that if he was really referring to Metallica, but he cleverly avoided answering the question.

never said anything about millions, nor implied it....I wrote that they've created a core of fans. A core is a number of few but dedicated fans, if you didn't get me. And yes, they DEFINITELY do better overseas. The fact that in the past 2 years they've visited Greece 3 or 4 times, they've toured extensively across Europe and they've played at the Dynamo festival in Holland (maybe the biggest European festival) shows that Iced Earth are a "little" popular in Europe, including Greece. To your surprise, I can tell you that Iced Earth are more popular than DT in Europe. At least in Greece it's absolutely certain (just a walk in Athens streets shows this: Iced Earth T-shirts are the most popular, as well as Blind Guardian). Sorry to piss you off, apparently Iced Earth is one of your faves, I can see that from your signature too, but so are Metallica for me. I just like to say things the way they are.

I'm going to start selling the ytsejam shirt at eBay. I put it up for bid at a lower price, figuring people will bid it up to my target of 15 - actually, this has already happened. So that worked well.

Anyway, I'm new to eBay and they have a rule that until I get 10 positive feedback comments, or I've been a member for 2 months, I can only sell one shirt at a time, which is of course, inhibiting. It's a good system, but I have no history with eBay. I do, though, with you guys. I like to think I have a solid rep - at least, I'm not aware of any problems anyone's ever had with me, business wise.

So, I was wondering if some of my satisfied customers could go to:

    http://cgi2.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?LeaveFeedbackShow&useridto=joshdr

and leave some feedback on me. I would really appreciate it, and you would be helping to bring a good, affordable DT shirt to the masses. If you're not registered at eBay, it takes a few minutes; but really it's worth it, because it's a cool site and worth checking out.

    Thanks fellers!

Okay, now you've stepped in it. What do you know about Hoon other than that you don't like his music and he died from heroin use? Anything? I want to know. If that's all you know about him, then just about the only thing you can say about him is that he's a stupid bastard for killing himself with heroin. I think that's hardly enough to say that the world is better off without him. As far as we know, he never robbed a convience store or beat up an old lady or raped your mother.

Beyond that, I'm not going to get any deeper into this thing of "deserving death" or people who aren't worth saving or any of it. That brings on some ideas about which I have very complex emotions, and this isn't the place for the discussion of it.

    > I've gotta correct two Bonham slip-ups here. Brian lumped JB in with > Hendrix, Joplin and Morrisson, and went into a long-overdue > demolition of those three. I just want to be sure that he wasn't > implying JB was involved with Heroin, because he WASN'T.

As far as we know, Bonham was an alcohol man, and that's what he OD'd on. We can't say positively if he used heroin, but considering he was a whale when he finally died it's not likely. ;)
