Yes Indii, this is banned from OPEN voting on the jam. But if you
would like to take a survey, you can have people send their favorites
to YOU, and you can post the results after you compile and total them.

This has been done before, and for you or anyone who is interested,
there was was a "ytsejam" survey of favorite albums of all time. The
results can still be viewed at the DT website (www.dreamtheater.net).
There should be a button near the bottom of the left side that says
"Ytsejam Survey Top 40". Go there and you can get an idea of what
    other ytsejammers like...

lol. yeah. i am a music geek. and i *do* know how to turn an aria into a
pentatonic scale ( you can ask my beer filled bandmates ). but here's 52 : "
you might be a music geek if : someone asks you to " Name That Tune! " and you
hear an A and enthusiastically scream "Mozart's 11th version of Twinkle
Twinkle! the hard one !" ::whine comes here:: .

i dont know...i could probably think of more later. just wait till im back

    1. Don't know if this was already posted, i'm not subscribed to the jam
for 6 months now; i just found out that www.cdbaby.com has both Devin
Townsend HDR releases cheaper than you can find them anywhere else, and
i think they deliver in 24 hours. So get them both, esp Infinity if you
    still haven't.

    2. I'm getting rid of some cds:

    i'm trading:
    Galactic Cowboys - s/t; Death Angel - Act III; T-Ride - s/t; Anathema -
Eternity; Radiohead - OK Computer; Fudge Tunnel - The Complicated
Futillity of Ignorance; I Mother Earth - Dig; Anthrax - Among The
Living; Fight - War of Words; Helmet - Aftertaste; White Zombie -
    Astro-Creep2000; The Cure - Head on the Door, Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me;
Suicidal Tendencies - How Will I Laugh Tomorrow, Skid Row - Slave to the
Grind; Rammstein - Sehnsucht (unpacked), Judas Priest "Live Meltdown 98
(unpacked), Ugly Kid Joe - Best of (unpacked); Limp Bizkit - 3$ Bill
Ya'll; Sister Machine Gun - Burn; Danzig - Blackacidevil.

    i REALLY need:
    Conception - In Your Multitude, Parallel Minds; Crematory - Illusions;
Doctor Butcher - Doctor Butcher; Gathering - How to Measure a Planet,
Nighttime Birds; Life Of Agony - Ugly; My Dying Bride - 34.788%
    Complete; Nevermore - Politics of Ecstasy, Dreaming Neon Black;
Sanctuary - not sure about the title; Snot - Get Some; Sepultura - Arise
(remastered); Yngwie Malmsteen - Millenium Suite (or whatever his
symphonic cd is called); Yngwie Malmsteen - Live!! (2 cds for 2).
    i kinda need:
    Anthrax - Volume 8; Deftones - Around the Fur; KMFDM - Angst, XTORT;
Korn - Follow The Leader; Ratt - Ratt N' Roll; Ultraspank - whatever
their 1 cd is called; Therion - Theli; Lost Highway soundtrack; \
but i'd really prefer the ones i really need.

i'm currently in SC USA, but i'll be going back to Europe in the summer,
so if you're in Europe and want to trade, email me.

sorry for the wasted space, and i want to use the opportunity to say a
big fuck you to the assholes who hate me (you know who you are).

also, buy SYSTEM OF A DOWN's 1998 debut cd, it's the best thing i've
heard since Awake... but if you're not into FNM & heavier stuff with
groove, you might not like it as much.

    cheers.

Reading all the thread flamings, I must stand up in defense for Beatles
    and Ringo!
No one says/said that Ringo is a monster drummer, but he did his job
great, and Beatles are what they are with him!
Little by little the thread turned into "Beatles sucks!" which IMHO is
pretty ignorant and stupid to say!
So they had few "childish" songs, so what? The fact is that Beatles will
remain as one of the best bands ever! Their melodies, arrangements and
music are immortal, even in songs like "When I'm 64"! The music is nice
and develops further great! Even in their realy period they have some
pretty cool musical ideas, if you just listen careful enough without
    seeking Metropolis-duet-solo-type-of-thing in it!

While personal opinions are pretty much around to make confussions in
threads, there ARE some things which are absolute!
What is absolute is that Beatles are great! Far too great! I don't have
enough words to explain it and don't intend to do here! If you don't
like them - fine! It's your choice! But don't say "they suck!" Not only
prog is some of the best musics around! If drummer doesn't change
rhythms 5 times in a second it doesn't makes him bad! What counts is how
the tune sounds all together! And Beatles tunes sounded PERFECT!
Take Dead Can Dance - they are so un-progish, but it's damn good
    music!!!

For the end, name 1 album that can match even near to "Abbey Road"
    beauty??? </personal opinion>

    Good evening fuckers!

Metal is as dead now as it is from time to time since it's inception in the
60's. Sales are just one bit of the puzzle, of course, but not an
insignificant one. Prove me metal is selling currently. The greater metal
community is losing members as people grow up, what remains is in large
parts a nostalgia thing, or continued success of already established acts.
Which, in time, is reduced to nostalgia. Guess what - saying metal's dead is
a SIMPLIFICATION of the truth! <sarcasm>My god, how could he (Lars) be
allowed to do such a thing?!?</>

I listen to 5-10 new metal albums a week. (It's certainly breeding, but it
could as well be from the well known post-mortem ejaculation.) Of all other
music I have the great (mis)fortune to hear, several of my favourite genres
have a significantly better ratio than metal when it comes to producing
innovative, refreshing, enjoyable and listenable albums.

No, I'm not fucking saying I don't like metal (or prog) or DT, or Metallica,
or Symphony X, or... But that's not what any of this is about. Manowar
(which I like a lot BTW!) being very popular still in Germany and other
parts of Europe is not metal being very alive. Or that bands like Pantera,
Megadeth and Slayer continue to put out records. It would be a lot easier to
say Metal's Alive! if SYL, Opeth, Meshuggah... etc were more than just a few
very creative underground bands. Metal needs something big, innovative and
important to be widely considered as alive again. Oh, I forgot to tell you
    Doc: These are OPINIONS.

    Greetings jammers !
I saw someone posted R. Rokket as THE worst drummer ever.
Well, I think he's not THAT bad, there are worse drummers....
BTW, speaking of influences, Poison was one of the bands that made me
    buy an electric guitar.es, I play since I was 12(now I'm 24, but don't
trust the years, I'm not really competent, but work hard to improve ;-))
but mostly folk music of my country, and some classical too. But bands
like Warrant, Poison, B. Jovi, D. Leppard, Cinderella, and all the glam
stuff of latter 80's was really influential over here. Mostly 'cause
those where the only FM playable music (for FM owners, yes, the
    ballads).
Finally I really must mention the black album. If wasn't for it I've
prob. never gotten involved in heavy stuff (previous discs), and finally
DT. So I'm really have to say thanx to all those bands, despite the fact
that I don't really hear that nowadays very often.
Well, maybe yes Warrant's Dog eat Dog and D.Lep's Hysteria and On
through the night, my really faves.
    ;)

    Message-ID: <3.0.3.32.19990317180427.00ac3ffc@postoffice.ptd.net>

Well, it sure was an exhausting 2 days ... for anyone who hasn't already
found this out, 6-hour-long bus rides SUCK!! The things DT has me doing,
lemme tell ya ... anyway, aside from my all-day traveling escapade, Monday
was a good day. Since the taxi service in New Britain sucks monkey nads,
and also because I had an unexpected 2-hour layover in NYC, I only arrived
for the clinic around 6:50 or so (Mad props to Michael Emerson for saving
me a seat! For those of you who may have been there and seen me walk in
and take this seat, which was in the middle of the front row, thanks for
the nasty looks, and =P ... Just kidding!) :)

En-ee-wae, when I got there, "Biaxident" was playing ... killer tune, with
some great keyboard/piano melodies and very tasteful lead work from JP! By
the time John came out, we also heard "Another Dimension" (what "Burning My
Soul" should have been -- the main guitar riff and keyboards are very
similar to the BMS verses), and part of "When the Water Breaks". Having
heard the first 2 again when John played them, I can say that, IMHO, LTE2
sounds about 10x as good as LTE1. I could be wrong, but those 2 songs
sounded better than anything I've heard in a while ... "good good good good
good good great stuff!" (anyone know what Vai song I pulled that from?)

The clinic itself was well worth the exhausting trip ... having missed the
LTE shows, it was great to see some of the songs performed live. (Setlist:
PS, Biaxident, AD, SoG, UM). Some of the more interesting things mentioned
were John's "Disney influence" (he joked that SoG could have been part of
"Mulan"), the breaking down of the main PS open-string lick and the UM
intro riff (latter of which is all picked, for those who were in doubt),
Metropolis 2 ("Well, we could *talk* about it ...") ... and other stuff I'm
not thinking of right now. Unfortunately, there was no videotaping allowed
("I'm not sure Warner Bros. would appreciate that ...), but I got some good
    pics ...

There was also a guy there who looked almost *identical* to JP! At first I
thought it might be his brother, but it was not ... very spooky stuff.

Finally, to wrap up probably the longest post I've ever sent to the 'jam,
JP signed autographs for everyone. Mike and I waited until the line died
down (we wanted to invite him across the street for a bite to eat, but that
never happened) ... John was very friendly, signed a shitload of stuff for
me, and thanked me for making the trip ("You're kidding!"). I had a great
    time.

I found out after I got back that there was a clinic added in North Wales,
PA, which is less than an hour from where I live. I might go. If anyone
else will be there, let me know!

    ~Brian, a happy camper

Sorry, boy, but Journey is and WAS a great band, their last cd TRIAL BY FIRE
was great. And Mr. Schon happens to be a great guitarist too. Atleast it
wasn't Kirk Hammet... Oops, there goes the war starting all over again.

Funny you like ManOWar... there's not much innovation in the European
circuit with bands like Edguy, Gamma Ray, Rhapsody, who are basically
    ManOWar on speed type bands.

Not to mention other great "underground" bands like Pain Of Salvation,
    Superior.

I think there are some breakouts of talented bands besides the obvious
schmutcrap like Korn and Marylin Manson... those would include bands
    like Fear Factory.

Sadly, you are right, Metal is very much DEAD in a literal sense, it's all
we can do to fight to bring this genre more exposure.
