Don't get me started, have you actually heard a Seal CD...I mean the
whole album - not just the famous single...? This guy has alot of
talent and writes some great songs. I've always considered him along
the lines of a 90's Sting (not as good but very cool all the same). If
you go to TL's sight you will see that Seal has some good musos on tour
with him, let's face it TL can pick and choose who he tours with and he
isn't gonna waste his time with wankers.
RANT.... still no word on the LTE2 producer/mixer/whatever....then.

PS. I like what Shirly did with FII and OIAL, but let's not start that
thread again (although it would at least be some vague DTC).

It is indeed the same Seal that did Kiss From a Rose and the reason Tony Levin
is playing with him is just that...because he can. He's that diverse a bass
player. In fact, when I talked to him last week and mentioned I'd seen the
L.A. LTE show, he said "yeah, I played a WHOLE lot less notes tonight with
Seal, but it was fun". He is a true musician.

Um, did he also mention that he's going to be part of Steven Seagal's "solo"
band? That, IMO, would be the gig to make people say that he's a musical whore,
not Seal.

Mars scared the shit out of me the first time I heard it played by the local symphony orchestra. As for adaptations of Mars, one need look no further than King Crimson's "The Devil's Triangle", featured on their In The Wake of Poseidon album. Unless you have the mistaken notion that only loud guitars can be heavy (the primary instrument here is layered Mellotron), this will freak you out. If you'd like to hear it, tune in to my Ytseradio show Thursday night 8-10 EST or Saturday from 2-4 EST.

I can tell THIS is an individual who has listened to all 3 Seal albums as objectively as possible. This is either a musician, who knows what it takes to create albums like those, or a listener with profound insight. This is someone who knows that vocal and songwriting ability is pretty much meaningless if you use tools like drum machines and sequencers (as people like Steve Vai do). This person values originality only a little bit less than that piece of sticky plastic that holds your cds closed when you buy them.

You guys heard Symphony X's The Divine Wings of Tragedy yet? That is, IMO the best metal use of "The Planets" to date.

OH MY GOD! I saw jeff beck last nite here in Austin for South By Southwest, and he stunned me to silence! All I could do was half-assedly clap my hands and the end of the songs, I was so blown away. And do you know who was playing with him? . . . Jennifer Batten! she was pretty badass, too. It was really cool, 'cause she used a guitar synth for a lot of stuff. she had what looked like a Roland GK-2A-type pickup mounted on her Washburn with the controls built in. she played a cool flute part for one song. but, jeez, I had no idea jeff beck was so modern sounding. I figured on a show like Clapton or Page and Plant, where everything was pretty old school (but still kick ass). But Beck was tapping and using his whammy bar like crazy, even doing those weird flutters that I'd only heard Ibanez players (Vai, Satch, and JP) do up till now. I used to think that was a secret button on the high-end Ibanez guitars ;) his drummer was really cool , too. he had a huge Sonor set, with about 4 rack toms, a few floor toms, tons of cymbals, some electronic pads and pedals, and a small satellite kick off to his right side (and one main kick with a double pedal). the guy's name was Steve Alexander (I think). has anyone heard anything else he's done?

Actually, this seems like the simplest way to play that run. Your left hand fingers are centered in that "scale fragment" possition (on JP's video) and theres only one note on the 3rd string to bounce between rather than switching between the two strings as many times as those other transcriptions have it. I'll have to try it out how you say JP plays it.
