Yeah, I noticed the same thing. Worst mistake they could've made. Ray
Daniels has a habit of breaking up his bands and making new bands out of
the mess. Unfortunately, none of these bands that Ray has created is
worth the dogshit on my shoe. Thank Ged he hasn't done this to Rush,
though...

Is anyone here from the Lincoln, Nebraska area? I was visiting and I
swear I heard Dream Theater's "Lie" during a commercial on one of your
classic rock stations (I think it was 93.9 FM, but I'm not sure.) I only
caught two seconds of the promo -- has anyone heard this? Do you know
what they were promoting? (It sounded like an in-house ad -- the part I
heard was "... only on 94 Rock" or something like that.) Do they play
Dream Theater often? <g>

All I can say is HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!!!!! One of my very fav bands is finally
gonna play the US!!! Maybe this has something to do with them getting picked up
by Century Media for US releases.
Maybe this means melodic/progressive/symphonic metal is gaining some fans in the
US, enough for a foreign band to tour here. Maybe we'll start seeing more metal
on the music channels instead of the constant BS that is usually served to us. Maybe
metal is gaining the respect it deserves here in the US...
..Or maybe Im just getting carried away ;-). All I know is that the closest date they play
to the NYC area, I'll be at.

That's probably the greatest shit I've ever heard! (since the QR=nazi debate).
The word social in the name Nationalsozialistische Partei Deutschlands
certainly doesn't mean they're left!! Why do you think they
asassinated/executed/killed hundreds and thousands of members of the Kommunist
Party (KPD) and the Socialist Party (SPD)??? Certainly not because they were
also left socialists!! BS
To all this Reich/Ryche stuff I can only say: BS! The word Reich simply means
EMPIRE (I happen to be german!!). It is used in connection with the third
reich in germany I admit. But it is also used in connection with the British
Empire, the Roman Empire and the Anglo-American Worldpower. And now you tell
me what these have in common with the Nazi's??? Do these nations in any way
symbolize Nazi ideology? NO WAY!! So quit this BS and shut up!!
The name Queensryche evidently means the Queens Empire nothing less and
nothing more.

With the massive postings on Tori Amos, i felt left out and
decided to try her out. Of the many albums listed Little
Earthquakes, seemed to be mentioned the most so i went out and
bought it. I have to say i am impressed. I usually don't like
female bands or vocal (not a sexist pig thing either), i never
really thought they could write or put emotion into thier songs the
way guys do. I like Jewel (no flames please) because her songs were
well written, very simple, and full of emotion. The only other
females i have ever liked are The Cocteau Twins & the japanese girl
(i forget her name) that sang on the Macross Plus Soundtrack. I'm
on track 8 and have to say that i already like just about everysong
sofar. Thanks, guys & gals, for the recomendations.
I wanted to ask a question or two, also. I went to my local CD
store and ordered LTE. Then i tried to order some Symphony X & Ocean
Machine. Are these bands on the same label? He said he thought the
Symphony X was out of print, is this correct? I thought SX was an
American band, so i should be able to get them. I really don't want
to order off the net but i guess i will have to.
DTC: I also picked up Platypus but haven't had a chance to listen,
but to the first two songs. I didn't really like the first one. Oh
well, maybe it'll grow on me. I'll pop it in when TA is done.
I would also like to recomend The Cocteau Twins (the most beautiful
female voice i have ever heard) and Dead Can Dance (really cool
gothicesque, prog-rock, music).

i want to post a little info on a program i got called Net CD.
It's a nice little program. When you put in a CD to listen to it on
your PC (or Mac) it will dial up the net and download the name of
the cd, artist and the names of the songs. It lets you choose where
it gets the info (it uses ftp, so don't worry about long distance
calls), and the info is saved on your computer so when you put it in
next it automatically displays it. But i like it alot. It's
available at www.download.com, and there are many others there too.

I think its kind of a morbid scene here when some of you show joy in Shannon
Hoon's death because of the Guitar mag comments made at the expense of DT.
That's just sick. I remember reading it at the time and thinking "what a
couple of losers" those two GUITARISTS of Blind Melon were. Oh wait, Shannon
Hoon was the vocalist. Hmm, so HE didn't even make the DT comments. Fuck,
I'm glad I didn't celebrate his death. Besides the fact that its just stupid
to celebrate someone's death, I'd feel pretty lame right now if I BLAMED him
for those comments. That would be like blaming John Petrucci for remarks
Derek Sherinian made. You mean band members don't share a brain?
Oh and to top this all off ........ I remember John Petrucci being given the
chance to respond to the Blind Melon's guitarists' comments and JP showed
class. He didn't go off on how lame the band Blind Melon was.
As far as the JLMB reference, I have to wonder how it was to be taken. Is it
to be taken that Shannon Hoon and Kurt Cobain are the negatives in the music
industry? Or does it mean that the record company used them up. The record
company loved their death's ("Until you kill yourself, and then the sales go
through the roof"). So by rejoicing in Hoon's death are you sharing the
feelings of Mike Portnoy or are you sharing the feelings of the record
company? Hell if I know, I'm not Portnoy. I sincerely hope Portnoy doesn't
rejoice in the death of Hoon. I'm going to GUESS (hope) that the latter was
Portnoy's point considering it was the theme of the the rest of the song.

I agree that this is a lame thread to keep up... but you know, I've
decided that I will add one more point to the list.
After reviewing the statements by both sides, I have decided that I can
no longer listen to virtuoso composer Steve Reich anymore. Once I learned
that he's a nazi, and that he uses sequencers and loops... I realized that
his talent is a farce. What next.... he'll have Tony Levin play on his
album? Will he use Steve Vai's rack of effects and sound "like Mozart?"
And then there's the band Sacred Reich, who I've heard one song from...
but it sucks, and since that's all I need to know about a musician or group
to make statements like "He Blows" I will forcibly avoid all exposure to
further Sacred Reich tracks. I'm only a fan of true "metal/prog/anything
like that" and I don't wear crackerjack clothes. STAY METAL, OR AT LEAST
REALLY, REALLY, HARD PLASTIC, EVERYONE!

Actually, they were more of a failed attempt for a King Crimson
reunion. It might have happened, too, but Fripp wouldn't join, so Allan
Holdsworth decided to. Good music, but it would be interesting to think
what would've happened had Fripp joined. Would the music be a precursor
to the '80s King Crimson, a holdover from the '73-'74 KC, somewhere in
between, or something else entirely? One wonders.

Listen. Queensryche sounds like a nazi name. you can get your
dictionaries, and say your friend has a jewish name but he's not jewish,
but it doesn't change the fact that it is a VERY nazi-ish name.
Now, I don't think danny is saying anybody is a nazi. He never made any
accusations. He only wants to point out that there MIGHT be a
POSSIBILITY, since the name is VERY, VERY, nazi like.
Why's that? Because some things are permeated in the collective
conscience. The dictionary won't tell you what 20,000,000 dead people
and all their loved ones think of the word 'Reich'. How about adolph?
It's just a name, right? It's a meaningless name. How about I go around
at parties saying "Hi, I'm adolph hitler!" and I could wear a little
mustache and everything. So? So? It's just a mustache, it's just a name,
what's the problem?
Nobody in their right mind can tell me that some meanings you don't find
in dictionaries.
Now, I think it's pretty unlikely that QR is a nazi band. But it's not
fair to skewer someone for pointing out that their name is CLEARLY
reminiscent of that whole, you know, nazi type deal.
