I suppose that is kind of appropriate as their most popular album (to
the best of my knowledge...note, I did not say 'best') is "Empire."
Hmm... what foresight.... A lot of their stuff does refer to empires,
but not Nazi ones. But parts of this thread have been pretty funny.

I've never been in a rock band, which half of you will think
disqualifies me from knowing anything, but in orchestra, it wasn't all
too rare to find a few measures of 9/8 stuck in the middle of a 4/4
piece. Once we even played a suite where one part was written entirely
    in wither 9/4 or 9/8, I can't remember. It's not always like 3 measures
of 3/8 stuck together, which is basically like a measure of 3/4 with
each beat composed of triplets. Most of the time I encountered measures
of 9, they were either 4+5 or 5+4, not 3+3+3.
As for Century Media, they have an extensive online catalogue. I
browser though it for 10 minutes and didn't reach the end. I found
Awake for $8, which I thought was amusing. but the downside is this is
one of those places where you may have to wait 6-8 weeks for delivery.

The truth is... Queensryche is referring to Hitler's mom... she was the true
power behind the whole Nazi movement... they knew the truth...

The 'Empire' album is all about his mom's empire if they had won the war.

Alright, I know I'm a bit late with this since the can of worms is already opened, but let it die already... if someone jumps up and down pointing and shouting "nazi!" just b/c Reich is used somewhere, then that should speak for itself. It's at the point where just about anything German is construed as evil. Give it a rest. This is a music list; take your ethical issues and qualms elsewhere, please.

Actually, that's not the case. Here's a passage from John Wetton's book, "My Own Time", on page 65:

"..the premise was that John would bring in a musician of his choice, and Bill wound do the same. So, John called upon Eddie Jobson and Bill got guitarist Allan Holdsworth, and that brought U.K. into existence."

I've never heard one positive thing about Century Media's shipping time. Has this changed, or are you still better of maybe paying a dollar or two more and getting the CDs before the sun goes away? I bought a lot of CDs from these guys at Powermad, but you didn't have to worry about delivery problems there.

Of course, I've had good luck finding CM releases at Rasputin's in Campbell, so maybe I won't have to go the MO route anyway. Although the CDs are more expensive in the store. Hmm, I think my indecisive yammer has probably annoyed many of you, so I'll stop now.

Well, actually, I won't. I saw that there might be an Angra tour. While I think this is great, I can't believe the band would come all this way, as unless you're really plugged into the metal underground of the internet, there's no way you've heard of them. I can't see how the band will make any money on such a tour, unless CM or some other company has huge promotional plans. Just my feeble thoughts.

That reminds me of something I found rather funny. The Boston Globe ran a story on a kid I went to High School with, who had started a Neo-Nazi group in college, the "Knights of Freedom" (www.kof.net). The thing I found most funny, is the kid IS Jewish! Following in Hitler's footsteps he is . . .and right into his grave. I suggest you guys with a sense of humor go to his website, and look for a picture of him, he looks so ridiculous. A kid once named Andrew Greenbaum, dressed up as a Nazi.

Whoops, that was a mistake of mine. I should have said "has always traditionally gone 1-2-3 1-2-3 1-2-3" and not what I really did say. However, I WILL say this much: If you're reading something in 9/8, I'll give you dollars to doughnuts that it will probably be a three-beat feel in triplets. Technically, if you're going to be writing something different, you should be using a different sig. For instance, if you want it to sound 1-2-3-4-5 1-2-3-4 or something, you'd write it as 5/8 4/8 (one of those Godawful double time-sigs - I hate 'em).

Let's see... Ocean Machine is on a small label called HevyDevy Records and you'll basically have to mail order it from them or pay a shitload to get your hands it from MusicBlvd. Hevy Devy records URL is http://members.home.net/hevydevy/

Symph X is a band from New Jersey I believe, but they've only actually played on their native soil a handful of times. They're not on a domestic US label, so you will have to order their albums from an import distributor. As I remember, http://www.moremetal.com/ has a good deal for them. Well, if listening to Queensryche dredges up painful memories of your visit to Auschewitz, I'm sorry, but I have to agree with everyone else that says "reich" is only a word and not an event. Say "Third Reich" and I'll say nazi's. Say "Queensryche" and I'll say bees. I always pictured the Queen of the Reich to be a giant bumblebee ordering her servants to harvest pollen from flowers and build large wax hexagonal fortresses. I can't relate that the the Third Reich at all. *shrugs* Some people say I'm weird. I just think I'm gay. -- KorgX3 is founder of the militant wing of the Peace Corp. NP: Seal: Human Being

As a matter of fact, Beck is influence to a lot of modern guitarist! He was one of the pioneers in fusion, the one who started to pull off some weird sounds out of his guitar! I remember when I was a huge Zep fan, and read an article where the dude was making comparitions between Beck and Page, and stated that Beck is better! I was quite angry ("Who the heck is this Beck punk? Nah, Page is god!") But from my present perspective I can admit that Beck was really better! Hmmm, yeah, I think he is even better than Jason Becker! :) WAY better!
