I think "Kiss from a rose" is an awesome song!!!
This Seal guy, at least from the few songs I heard from him, is great!
"Crazy", "Future Love Paradise" etc. these are all great songs, with a
little of that psychodelic vibe in them! :)
And his Hey Joe cover sounds pretty good, compared to other covers I
hear nowadays (the disease of reworking every 70s hit into techno
    version) :(

Hey all... I can probably get this from the liner notes if I look hard
enough... but they're at work 30km away so I can't be bothered... I'll ask
    you lot instead :)

ON "The Wake of Magellan", which singer is which... I THINK Jon Olivia
sings "Another Way", "Paragons of Innocence" etc. and Zak Stevens does "The
    Wake of Magellan" etc...

I know this is a really naive question, but I'm new to this band, despite
having been told many times to check them out, and I want to work out which
album I'm going to get next :)

    Thanks!

You are correct. AW and PoI are the only two songs on the album that Jon does, unless of course you include the three bonus tracks at the end. If you're looking in to getting more 'Tage, Dead Winter Dead also features Jon on two songs and Zak on the rest. Handfull of Rain and Edge of Thorns feature Zak entirely. Everything prior, Jon. Hope this helps you out some.

Regarding this bullshit on the neo-nazi Queensryche thang, the name of the band has NOTHING to do with the Third Reich, or Nazi's, or even buffalo soup. As a matter of fact, the band is QUITE liberal and left-leaning in MANY of their views and ideals. So anyone who thinks otherwise should pick up EMPIRE and the conspiracy theory CD, OPERATION MINDCRIME and take a gander. Actually, they are considered one of the most influential bands on this new era of prog-rock anyhow. So, get ANY cd including th eabove and THE WARNING and RAGE FOR ORDER and you'll be happy for years.

I only have a very old version of CoolEdit, the stretching gives heavy artifacts.. perhaps it's better nowadays. If you want stretching/pitching that'll blow you away, try the (Dolson) phase vocoder. It's also included in the csound package (a separate 'pvanal' program and the 'pvoc' operator from within csound) but a bit of a pain in the ass to use there. Even more amazing is a Mac program called "Lemur", it uses some ingenious algorithms to exclude garbage, and find good approximations of the harmonic frequencies in each FFT frame (I mean even if the frequency is between bins). It's very slow though! And no PC version last I looked.

[KorgX3] > BTW, any words if Mike's next supergroup collaberation was still in mind? > The one with Neil Morse, Jim Matheos, Mike, and Pete Trawevas <sp?> (was it > Pete, my mind's a blank right now). I saw something on perpetual-motion about a Myung, Kevin Moore, Holdsworth, Mike Terrana project.. fairly improbable, to say the least. :) A rumour is just that, a rumour..

(Hey, I dreamt last night that Varney called me up and asked me to produce something... a writing collaboration between JS Bach and Stravinsky, writing a 50 minute progressive metal piece in expanded late-18th-century harmonic style, with lyrics by Kevin Moore on the concept of "Necessary Evil". Performed by Deen Castronovo, Eddie Jobson, Fredrik Thordendahl, and Russell Allen. But then alas i woke up.. ;) )

This is an excerpt directly from the band's official website ... I hope it gives you the information you need ... let this matter be laid to rest!!! = ... Tank U veddy much ... =3D)

=BA=BA=BAHow did Queensr=FFche begin? The (original) members of Queensr=FFche, all from the Seattle area, were involved in local bands before coming together under the name THE MOB and recorded a 4-song EP, which became the Queensr=FFche EP.

After the band's first managers suggested that a better name be found, the band chose Queensreich, taken from the title of one of the songs on their = EP, Queen of the Reich, but altered the spelling to Queensr=FFche to avoid bei= ng mistaken for nazi s=FFmpathizers.

=BA=BA=BAWhat is the Tri-R=FFche and what changes has it gone through? Man=FF moons ago, when the R=FFchean kingdom came into being, it was decre= ed that a crest s=FFmbolic of all that was good about Queensr=FFche should be brou= ght into existence (Ok, so that's not the real reason, but it was an interesting embellishment). Scott Rockenfield's brother, Todd designed a s=FFmbol, now= known as the Tri-R=FFche.The following is the evolution of the Tri-R=FFche.

Wow it must be great to have the ability to tell whether an artist is good or not by one song! Ok maybe you don't like his style and thats fine, but you might be able to appriciate just how good a songwriter Seal is if you would *force* yourself to listen to it. There is a big difference between like and appreciation. You may not like somthing but it doesn't mean its crap or that they suck as a musician. Yes, Seal's music is very layered and very much pop, but the way he constructs his songs is alot like Peter Gabriel. Great arrangements, lush vocal melodies and harmonies. All of his discs are different from the previous. He continues to grow as an artist and I have alot of respect for him because of it.
