can't think of a subject title because i think this is stupid...you're
knocking guys because they performed someone else's song??? You know, maybe
they just LIKED the fucker or someone paid them a lot of money to do it,
why the hell knock them for it????, I'd do "Hit Me Baby One More Time" if
someone paid me enough...hehe. Poison was pure pop-fluff metal...not saying
they were horrible, i'd take them any day over creed.... I ignored this
thread until I saw an attack on Aerosmth, which happens to be my 3rf fav
band after DT and the Ryche(which this thread that has been going on has
boggled my mind with the stupidity of anyone who didn't have the brains to
read a few lyrics to realize they're about as anti-power government and war
as any band can be).
I'm sure I'll get some response from people who hate Aerosmith, just
because they either can't get over their jealousy of them or are too
close-minded to like anything that doesn't have ten million time signature
changes, huge long keyboard solos, or they hate a band that will put out an
album full of 4 minute long radio friendly songs. There's nothing wrong
with any of these, but there is indeed a place for just some good old rock
and roll, and NOBODY does that better than Aerosmith IMO. If you listen to
"Walk This Way" and can't feel the groove in that song, check your pulse...:)

Hey all, I am in the process of shopping for a new bass. I stopped into
a shop the other day that had some Spector basses. I didn't have time to
try any out, so I couldn't say how the ones they had play, but, me being
pretty unfamiliar with that particular brand, I was wondering if anyone
could help me out here with some opinions, info, whatever. They did look
nice, but that doesn't really mean jack squat. I'll probably go back and
try some out, but I figure it might be a good idea to find something out
first so I don't end up wasting my time. I'm mainly looking for
something pretty versatile, and am not dead set on any particular brand.
I'm just wanting something that'll play well and last a little while.

I have CoolEdit96 and it's good in changing the tempo only when you use "convert sample rate" or "resample" . Both of them change pitch as well. When you use the "time stretch" command, it preserves pitch but screws up the rythm; some parts are played faster and others are played slower (can't figure out why), unless the stretch is very limited (up to 10% or so). This phase vocoder, where can I get it from? Does it do this time stretch without changing the pitch? Does it produce good results? I found this program from rocketdownload.com (can't remember its name) which claims to time-stretch, but the ftp site must have had a problem cos I couldn't download it. Maybe you guys have better luck.

Unless your device had A-Open on the label, is was in fact Acer. If your sound card was A-Open, how did you get it? Those products are supposed to only be available to resellers. Did someone do the old switch-a-roo? That would explain the being bundled with the wrong software. BTW, I've never seen a A-Open OEM product guide in color. The ones I get are always B&W. I think you got boned.
P.S. If you called Acer about an A-Open product, chances are they wouldn't even know what it was. They are completely separate companies.

Hello jammers!
Just got back from Salzburg/AT where I witnessed the KX phenomenon live. This was probably the best live show I have ever seen, I'm talking about musical orgasms all night long. The setlist was pretty standard for this tour and we made them do three (3!) encores! :) The guys enjoy performing live and it really shows. Ty is really guitarists guitarist, the riffs he pulls out are unbelivable and the solos while not ultra fast are really emotional and performed with a ton of good taste. He's got some health problems, but that didn't affect his performance one bit. He smoked!! I expected him to use a ton of ART gear and Zion guitars cause he endoreses them, but he really stuck to a couple of nice looking YAMAHA Pacifica's and his rack would probably make all you gearheads drool. Packed with Mesa goodies :) I think he's trying to catch the size of Petrucci's rack :) Three Marshall boxes on this show. Doug stuck with his Hamer 4string bass pretty much the whole show and his gear was mainly Ampeg with 3 huge cabs. Jerry was a real star of the night, he's got a helluva punch and his drumming was extremely solid, you know, the kind of drumming you could drop a bomb on, and would still work. The band was super nice and they were really surprised about the warm response from the crowd. They groove like nothing you have ever heard before, they really made my bootie swing back and forth :) Check the tourdates at http://www.kramerskorner.com/kingsx/ and if they play somewhere near you, do yourself a favour and go see them, they'r gonna hit you so hard you'r gonna be asking if anyone saw the license number :) The drum tech was also ultra nice and got me a drumhead from Jerries set and he went to the band and get it signed for me. I also got two really abused drumsticks so I'm officially a lucky sonuvagun now :) I'm seriously thinking about driving up to Wienna next tuesday too, even though they are coming to my hometown next saturday.

I had a talk recently with a friend of mine. She is nuts about ethno music 'n stuff. She used to be much into rock, blues and jazz also, but nowadays mostly into ethno and some jazz. So there we were sitting in my home, chating, listening some music on my brand new monster system and I played to her some LTE. The words I used for describing were "Pal, IMHO this is as far as music can go in present time! This is IT!" :) I got excited, hoping the friend will listen carefully and fully realise my descripition! :) Thsui becoming my new LTE convert!
And then she asked me a question: "What do these guys want to say with their music? What is their purpose of doing it? OK, obviously they all play good, as a matter of fact this is the most perfect techincal ability I heard 'till now, but what about their music?"
Only 2 or 3 times in my life I was left speechless like that! :( I didn't know to say an answer! Any! I just couldn't recall an interview or anything when/if LTE speaks about this topic!
Somehow I can see where she's heading with this question, .... and it's all OK, and she doesn't have some negative reason for asking it. Ya know like, "let's find now a reason to actually prove that LTE sucks!" :). She was sincere.
The thing that LTE is a project and not a band makes the question even more difficult. I even can't answer what do DT want with their music, but judging from the music and the lyrics it's obvious the guys are serious, they make serious music, mature, nice lyrics, speaking about deep feelings 'n stuff - not like some crappy punk band that torture the audience ears just to be "cool".
And we come to the inevitable question: "Is every music supposed to have a message?" Nothing exists without purpose, which means music too! It makes perfect sense, but when you try pointing put bands and stick this question for theitr music you come up with ... what?
I categorize ballads in 2 shelfs - bad, unsincere ballads (which makes progger wanna puke :) and mature, good ballads (from which IMO none human being can remain untouched). I call that first one "cheap ballad sound". But LTE and DT ballads are not like that. When I listen stuff like Surrounded intro solo, TLF, Biaxident, ... I get that kinda divinity feel out of it! I can't explain it, but it's obviously MUCH different than that cheap ballad sound heard so often nowadays all over the medias.
So, that's it! Any ideas? I would REALLY like to hear comments on this from jammers.

I saw that your question on vocalists has been already answered, so I thought I would throw in my stingy two pennies on the recommendations portion of your post..
I would say go for Dead Winter Dead next. It's a rock opera in kind of the same vein as TWoM, though the sound is very different. EXCELLENT disc. After that I would just sort out how you feel about the singers and that should guide you in getting the other stuff.. if Jon grows on you (or you think he kicks ass from the get-go) then go get Streets...it's a total knockout. Very powerful disc, with the original guitarist, Criss Oliva, on it as well.
Funny sidenote on my Sava-evolution.. when I first listened to Dead Winter Dead and before I turned into a fanatic and started buying CDs of theirs left and right, I was certain that Zak did all the vocals on DWD and was just amazed at how different he could sound.. hehe..now I am fairly certain Zak can't sound like that, but it made me feel really stupid at the time. :)
