Hey you all living in Japan!

A metal music store in Tokyo, Diskheaven, has taken our cd to their list.
Do us a favor, and ask for "The X" by Clarity.

Under no circumstances are you the only one. When JP hits that clean
chorus effect there in the middle, I levitate ;)
That tune has just so much going for it: shred, groove, energy, prog,
    LaBrie's voice, for starters...

There's a thread on alt.music.dream-theater about not playing PMU
anymore at the live shows. My intention here isn't to start that up here
as well; if you're interested, go read it in the newsgroups. I mention
it only in the context of deciding which of the tried and true "oldies",
if you will, to mix in with the new stuff. I'll repeat what I said some
    large number of digests ago:

Mike, if you're reading this, listen up! ;)

I was at the Hartford FII gig. You guys absolutely nailed UAGM that
night!! Incredibly tight. I don't know what it was, but it was just
THERE. You knew it, I saw you look over at JP and give him a grin and a
head snap. He knew it. I tend to key into crowd reaction and this blew
the applause meter off its moorings. The crowd exploded.

Please leave UAGM on the set list.

Thanks for setting the record straight, Trev. Saved me the trouble :) A
poet I am not. And I sure a shit wouldn't ever think of actually
charging people money to read this; heck, most people are more than
happy to ignore me for free </Iceman> ;)

I do! It's been the same way for me seeing them over the years. Nice
words about Jordan as well. Looks like it didn't take him all that long
plug into touring with the band, eh?

"The Genres Inside Us" (with apologies to Trevor :)

I ride the subway (the 'T') to work. There's a fairly decent variety of
genres beneath the pavement of our streets. Everything from Louisiana
banjo to BB King to tired jazz chords to washed up Joan Baez throwaways.
    Quality varies ;)

One particular day as I was walking up the stairs from the Red Line ,I
heard something unexpected in the sharp.......distance. As I approached
the platform to make my connection (Downtown Crossing, OrangeLine
outbound for the locals), there he was. This one actually made me put my
book away. This was worth checking out a little more closely.

The dude had an electric guitar, a keyboard, and a couple of AMPle
speakers. It's amazing what you can fit on a hand truck if you pack it
right :) So he's got the keyboard sequencing some decent riffage. Had a
few different presets he was working that he'd change to now and then
during the decay of a power chord. The dude was working the acoustics of
    the room :)

Got the worn out hippy drunk next to him boppin' and grinnin' as he
remembered a simpler time. His look, no, his "look", urged the guy to
send him even further back into that comfortable place as the gleam in
his eye connected with the warmth in my soul. It was one of those
happenin' echo/reverb/delay things the dude was working into the
sequence. It was, dare I say, progressive.

Of course, nothing lasts forever, not even a 'moment' :) Before we all
got too comfortable with the sweetness of it all, along came....the
'thing'. You know, the old metaphorical 'thing'. That thing that is sort
of a combination of the mind, body, and soul - but is none of those
    things - appeared:

A homie (euro-trash clog hoppers and all :) upstaged him as she strutted
in front, then stopped and did the tilted-head-confused-puppy-scope of
the dude. She gave a look to the leaking plumbing on the ceiling, as if
performing a SQL query into an Oracle database, and in a matter of
perhaps 2 seconds, found the appropriate dance move for what was going
on. Whipped out some kinda of a cross between a street dance move, a
ballroom dance step, and a bum stumbling over something on the ground
which isn't there. Although she had a nice package, I moved to one side
as she was blocking my view of the dude's fretboard technique ;) As if
her body language hadn't spoken volumes entirely too loud for what she
was trying to say, she then went on her way to the far end of the
platform....perhaps to go discuss with her 'crew' the uselessness of it
all... It was kind of bittersweet in the sense that it was a bitter move
dissin' the dude like that, but it was sweet that was on her way
quickly, and we were able to regain enough of the 'moment' to make it
    last a little longer.

Yes, with all the stressors normally found waiting for a train home in
rush hour, life became just a little more tolerable for a couple
moments....actually several, the train was late.... again :)

Find all you knead in your mind and the world flours before you...

Wow. It just makes my day to hear someone say that. I hate telling
people that I like prog and they say, "Oh, cool. I'm into Pink Floyd,
too!" Ugh. I prefer my music to be MUCH less passive.

I think Gilmour can play a decent solo for about 12 seconds, after that
I'm just snoozin or changing the station.

Clever, Trevor. ;) Burnt IS a word. It is an ajective modifying
something that has been burned. Burnt toast is toast that has been
    burned.

Yup. but when speaking French, the "a" would be nasalized, you wouldn't
pronounce the "m" at all, and the word would only be one syllable. Check
    THAT out. ;)

How's that for a segue? Has anyone seen her new video? That song pretty
much rocks for a pop song. Can't say about the haircut, though. I always
wondered when she would finally put out a solo album, her being the
    talented Spice Girl.

Myung's Yamaha 6-string Fretless was a prototype that he specifically
requested. But yes, he does own one, and he plays it on one song (at least)
in SFaM, though since I don't have it here in front of me I can't remember

    Hey jammers!
I started thinking about what the hypnotist says right before BTL
starts: "Now it is time to see how you died. But remember that death is
not the end, only a transition."
How the hell can he know what Nicholas is about to see? He has to be a
reincarnation of Edward. How else would he know what's going to happen
and that death is not the end unless he was involved in Nick's death and
    has been reincarnated himself?
I'm sure he was Edward in a past life and killed Nicholas....

I haven't seen this mentioned on the jam before but I never have the
time to read them too carefully so sorry if I'm just repeating what has
    been said earlier.

    Keep jamming!

He's guiding him, not making a prediction. He doesn't know what he's about
to see; he's just telling Nicholas to focus on another section of Victoria's
    life - her death.

He doesn't know what's going to happen. What makes you think he does? All
he's doing is guiding Nick's subconscious mind to the moment when "he" died.

How does he know that death is not the end? Well, he's a hypnotherapist. I'm
sure he's done lots of past life regressions before. I'm sure he believes in
    what he's doing.

    > I'm sure he was Edward in a past life and killed Nicholas....

Maybe he was, and maybe he did, but I don't think you can say so on the
    evidence above.

(If JM has just started work on a Yamaha fretless, then what was that fretless he had on the infinity tour and last year's Christmas shows? I think it was green. It looked like it was the same thing as his fretted bass.)

IMHO, at the Christmas shows, John was using a regular version of his sig. model in turquoise blue (it can look green under the stage lights. For the fretless songs, he was using his normal TRB-6 fretless. As for construction of a fretless version, work would have to be put in on redesigning the infinity inlay, and possibly using different woods-more of the "woody" sound comes through without the contact of the strings against fretwire.

Hi there, so what was this wacky music that was played between Tiles and DT? I recognized "Tom Sawyer" and "Ars Moriendi" (the new Bungle album rules, BTW), but what was that instrumental stuff? LTE2-outtakes?

Am I imagining things or was MP in a really bad mood during the Hannover-show? Maybe he was just dissatisfied with the guy who has to push the microphone in front of his face or something, but I seemed to remember him coming across much more friendly and happy during shows... *shrug*

Actually I think this wasn't one of the better DT shows that I've seen, but that might be just me. Well, there's always Cologne on Sunday...

For the people yet to go to the coming shows: Listen to the music that is played over the PA after the encore...

    Take Care, Andreas

It's REALLY ccol that there are some Cynic fans here (especially one named Sasha...I have the coolest cat in the world...named Sasha!). People always rag on them because of the Death vocals. I understand I guess but that seems to be the only thing people comment on, totally missing out that they're KILLER musicians (I actually like Sean Reinert WAY more than Portnoy, but that's my opinion.)

Aghora is the answer to haters of cookie monster vocals. The female vocals are THE coolest things I've heard since, well, the new DT. I can't wait to get my hands on that album.

I'm sorry that I don't have the url, but on Sean Malone's site he has clips of Jason Gobel cutting a part for the next Gordian Knot disc. (I unfortunately do not have the first one...but I intend to get it..I swear!!). Just think, 3/4 of Cynic back together!!! Paul Masvidal has just got to hook up rekindle the flames of IMO the most intense prog band ever. (I'm NOT ragging on DT, so don't clutter the list lecturing me!).

Email me if you want to talk Cynic, as I love Cynic fans. I'll tell you about when I had dinner with Sean Malone....the greatest moment of my life!!! Take care everybody!

Met 2 Hell's Kitchen Surrounded met 1 Hollow years PMU

    etc....

That is not in any particular order but I just love Hells kitchen and Surrounded... The band I was in took 6 days and just delved into learning hells kitchen... we spent night and day on it and it turned out great.. what a fun song to play also! Prog rules...

anyway, yes... those songs are fantastic and i am suprised also I haven't heard much about them... I am interested to see the new MP video and see how he breaks down hell's kitchen!

Am I the only one who thinks LTE was the worst of the recent side projects? Granted, parts of Mullmuzzler kinda sucked, but.....) p.p.p.s. James Labrie should go back to being Kevin Labrie. It was confusing enough having three out of five members names start with 'J' p.p.p.p.s That's definitely a fretless on "through her eyes". (the acronym for that one is THE. that's gonna be confusing) ______________________________________________________________________ The scientist's dogma seems awfully religious to me - Ty Tabor ______________________________________________________________________

Yeah I would love to see the latter also but I am really convinced that they are going to play all of Met 2 because I just got through reading the new modern drummer where MP is quoted saying that he recorded M2 using his Starclassic kit ONLY, because they were going to try and play M2 in it's entirety on the tour... i think they should do some old stuff, then M1, then M2, then encore with some old stuff!

    my 2 cents

I for one am hoping they DO play all of Met 2 live, however, I hope they can incorporate it into a sort of stageshow. Maybe keep all the music as is, but have stuff going on on-stage that'll make it interesting. Add some more life to it, etc.

I'm impressed! You are 100% correct. I figured 6' tall. I used *that* picture to estimate your weight. hehehe.. And I thought I had too much time on my hands! I figured your 10' exaggeration needed to be offset with a equally preposterous underestimation. Let it be known that KorgX3's "member" is somewhere in between 1" and 10'

Let's all place votes on who's figure is closer... :o)

Well with a setlist that includes a few WDADU nuggets plus an LTE medley, I'm going to be the last guy on this planet that will bitch about DT's setlist. But if they do try to play all of Met2 live, then I think it might be cool if DT have a little stage play or mini-movie to accompany the show. The segments that have people talking, moving about, etc. It would have to be a movie that accompanies every part of the show, tho that would be pretty cool...

    > Email me if you want to talk Cynic, as I love Cynic fans. I'll tell I'd love to talk Cynic. I discovered Cynic just when I got a little bored about 'normal' metal bands. Focus is amazing, although I don't play it as much as I used to.

Please tell me how you know about all this new cynic stuff! Is there anything by Aghora out yet?

That guy was me, and you must have missed the part of my post that said "SFAM was made for the ytsejam. I don't mean literally". With emphasis on those last four words. What I meant was that this seems like an album for the fans to really enjoy. This was proved by an interview with Mike in Classic Rock magazine in the UK where he said that the record company had pretty much forced them to release an album that would get them across to the masses. But instead did worse than the other albums, so this time they said "Fuck it, lets make the biggest artistic statement we could possibly make". It's an album to be thought about and enjoyed at times and other times to just listen and enjoy. It's just an amazing album.
