    Here's what I found at:
    http://patriot.net/~billf/zappa/zft/zft991107.html

    Gary Out; Ahmet In
We can let the cat out of the bag now ... Ahmet is joining Van Halen. This
summer Ahmet and guitar god Eddie Van Halen have been working on a concept
album called "The Cos vs. The Phantasm Ball". In an exclusive interview with
our own Ahmet, Ahmet ejaculates "This will be the 'Sound of Music' for the
    New Millenium."

Among the tunes that could appear on the Summer 2000 release -
I Am Radially Symmetrical and You're Not
    Ow, That Hurts
Maybe This Isn't So Bad After All
    Ow, That Hurts (reprise)
As Far As Leakage, This Is Worse Than Olestra
Maybe Putting Some Jello Up There Would Help
Maybe If I Sit This Way, It'll Be Better
    A Blowtorch or Plumbers Helper?

Newly bald Eddie says, "This is the best thing we've ever done. Gary was a
great ass-kisser but he had the personality of a, umm, tissue paper. Ahmet
brings all the excitement of a Charles Nelson Reilly to my band."

Says the band's lawyer, "there might be some legal issues to work out
regarding trademarks and libel before this is ever released."

"Dweezil is so jealous," confides Ahmet.

    Dweezil Resumes Musical Career
"What the hell was I thinking?", muses the philosopher of the family.
"Riding on Ahmet's coat-tails, basking in his lime-light, getting his sloppy
seconds. I shoulda been doing what I shoulda been doing, you know?

"This synclavier thing got pretty speedy once I got the hard disks
reformatted." Dweezil demonstrates his new-found keyboard mastery by turning
a knob to 11 and plays a 15 year old sample of Bobcat Goldthwait screaming
"Yacht" by depressing one of the keys on the keyboard with his left index
    finger. "Pretty cool, huh?"

Yeah, I believe it was based on one of Gibson's short stories.

OK, I must've missed that. That's cool then..... hopefully we'll see

direct result of SFaM's monopoly on my CD player).

I agree..... to say that DT made the disc FOR the Ytsejammers is kinda
silly. HOWEVER, I do think they DEFINITELY paid attention to what we
said about FII, as well as our hopes for the new album. Of course the
band can't listen to what EVERY FAN worldwide says, but the Ytsejam is
sorta a "slice" of their fanbase - and I think they certainly keep their
    ears open.

    >Gibson was part the founders/declarators of the movement, though.

    1) He didn't say Gibson coined "cyberpunk", he said "cyberspace", which
Gibson IS largely credited with coining (in "Neuromancer", as written
above). Some have credited Gibson with using the term first in his story
"Burning Chrome", but that was written and published two years after
    "Neuromancer".

    2) Sterling didn't come up with "cyberpunk" either. Bruce Bethke's story
"Cyberpunk" was written in 1980, published in 1983 in "Amazing", and is
usually accepted as the first use of the word. Sterling's newsletter "Cheap
Truth" WAS at the forefront of the cyberpunk "movement" even before it was
dubbed, so to speak, but he didn't coin the term. Side note: Bethke really
isn't a cyberpunk author, and in fact has said "who gives a rat's ass,
anyway?" when it's pointed out that he was first to use the word.

Those of you interested in "cyberpunk/cyberspace" -- Sterling, Gibson, Neal
Stephenson, Vernor Vinge, John Shirley, and Rudy Rucker are all good
choices, with Stephenson being probably the current best of those.

    cheers,
    Phil

To my knowledge, it is one of the most popular, if not the most, because of
the fact that is has the original version of "ACOS" with KevMo (goota love
the neoclassical breakdown - is it me, or did the boys rework that for "Fatal
Tragedy")?, as well as the whole live version of LTL. I believe it's pretty

UAGM iffy?! Am I the only one who considers this one of their coolest songs ever? I got into Awake first, but UAGM was the song that made me go out and buy I&W
(after seeing it on the Live in Tokyo video). As for Infinity, I don't think it was bad, just not what the die hard prog fans really wanted. I've actually heard
people say it's their favorite. It's my least favorite, but whatever...I just wish they'd used the demo version of TAMP, and dropped the horrible Anna Lee. I
used to not like JLMB, but I dig it now. This is pointless, I'm rambling. By the way any of you that have heard about Aghora...I've heard their album, which I
think will be released january or so...this album is incredible, prog fans, especially the ones who miss Cynic, will love it. It's all I've been listening to,
    besides SFAM of course.

Someone said that ever since SFAM came out, it's like FII never happened.
The first time I played SFAM (mainly the first half), the main thought on my
mind was how they had done an excellent job in marrying the two 'feels' of
I&W and FII. There's a lot of Awake and WDADU in there too, but mainly what
makes SFAM so great musically is the intensity and complexity of I&W blended
with the more relaxed feel of FII. I'm biased, though, because I really
like FII, I just recognize it as a different type of music than the other
albums. Oh well, I'll shut up now

I remember when that movie came out, one of my local news affiliates had some corporate 9-5 chick on their show saying that she was really offended at the portrayal of Trek fans in that movie. She was the biggest Star Trek fan that she personally knew (you know the type-- bazillions of posters, all the episodes of it's various TV incarnations and movies on tape, a shrine unto William Shatner, plus lots of crap)., but you'd never think she was a Trek fan by looking at her-- she wore clothes someone might wear to a business type job, her hair was neatly put up and on the whole she was rather good looking... for a Trek fan. :o) Anyway, I just wanted to share a story about those crazy Trekkies. Laterz.

Hi there, yesterday I was in Hamburg to see DT kicking off their Metropolis 2000 Tour. It was my 6th time and it's getting better every time! Believe me! Tiles weren't my cup of tea. But that's another story. I think Jason T. Breitweg already mentioned the setlist. I was about to cry when they played Only a Matter of Time! Never have I thoufht that I could hear this great old song live! my two friends and I just stared at each other and just couldn't beleive it! This show was so great! At the end of the IMHO too short show (appr. 1h 45) Mike said " See ya tomorrow!" and my freinds and I said loodly "you can bet on this, my friend!" 'Cause today I'm in Hannover to see them again ;-))

One cool thing was James' saying something like: "This is our new member, Jordan. Derek want to go ahead in his model career. So we didn't want to stop him from doing so!" Man, I laughed my ass off. BTW: Never had the opportunity to see Kev Moore live ;-(((. Musically Derek wasn't much behing him, honestly. But, guys, if you've never seen Jordan Rudess LIVE than you don't know ANYTHING about keyboard playing!! This man is insane. FACT. His solo was sooo incredible I just searched for his 3rd and 4th hand ;-)) Throughout the show it seemed that the band had a hell of a time playing the new stuff and with Jordan now in the band. The kept smiling throughout the whole show. Espescially Jordan. I could go on and on. But have to prepare for tonights show. BTW they sell cool shirts. One with the OIALT cover on the front and the tourdates on the back. But I bought the one with to SFAM cover on the front saying Metropolis 2000 and on the back there are the tourdates with the Majesty symbol underneath (?). Just damn cool! So long, and happy waiting ;_) Hey, don't mind. You'll see them somwhere in the year 2000.

The Dance of Eternity (DoE) is probably regarded among the 2 finest DT boots ever. The other is Lost in the Sky (LitS). Both are from the I&W era. DoE probably has the better setlist, containing the original version of ACOS, TLF, and Eve. LitS has Only a Matter of Time, with part of March of the Tyrant (old Majesty song) tacked on the end. Both are excellent audio quality, and the originals came in pretty nice packaging as well. You don't hear much about these anymore, but you can rest assure that those who remember bnf.com, and maybe even arastar.com, have these two boots in their collection.

How did your friend find this boot?

Hey, if they played Only a Matter of Time, maybe they'll play "Don't Look Past Me!" I'm dying to hear a REAL version of the song, rather than the poorly recorded demo mp3 I have.

In the UK we use spelt, in the USA you use spelled - divided by a common language - nobody wins in English English versus American English.

But in French, where the word originated, timbre is spelt 'timbre' and pronounced 'tambre'. My correction had no malicious intent.

Are the two versions really that different? I never thought that a fretless bass was that different than a fretted one - I suppose I could be wrong, though, since I never really got that into playing electric...

In my uneducated opinion, i think the fretless just sounds different. I mean you can tell when theyre specifically playing fretless for example in Fates Warning's APSOG on part 6 i think.and on thru her eyes... the sound is distinctive...

Last time I checked they are all married. But seriously, why is evryone so down on QR. They said this album was just a big session to break into Kelly being in the band. Like making the EP over again. Plus there were about 4 or 5 songs recorded that didn't appear on the CD b/c Michael said they didn't fit, Like "I Howl", Discipline and a few others. I Howl sounds pretty bad ass if you ask me. Don't everyone give up on them just yet.

Hey Jammers- A friend that knows that DT is my fave band told me yesterday that her friend that is a drum instructer said that MP is a sloppy drummer!! Does anyone know where I could find a review of DT that says some positive stuff? I know there are tons, but I'm having trouble finding them. I can't find anything on modern drummer.com either. Thanks in advance! Rye
