    Here's just another personal interpretation:

I see the Miracle as being some kind fo god/demon figure. Hence, the name
Miracle, because he was supposed to be mortal, but by some strange
intervention of fate, was born divine. I think this also makes more sense in
regards to the hynotherapist killing Nicholas. I agree with whoever
mentioned that it is completely unreasonable, unrealistic, and yes, cheezy
for the reincarnation of a person to take vengeance on something that
happened in a past life. To me, it seems natural for the Miracle to have
become the hypnotherapist in the same life, and to have killed Nicholas for
finding out his guilt. If he's immortal, it wouldn't matter that he's 121 or
    however many years old.

Good, now Gary can go make some REAL music instead of being held down by the
Van Halen brothers...he's way better than VH IMHO. I know many will hate
this response, it's just an opinion, and you're most definetly entitled to
your own...so no comments are necessary

Virgil's rather cool site is http://www.virgildonati.com

His new album, 'On the Virg', is also out, and if you like Planet X, this is
very much in the same vein.

Not only that but windows had it on the Monday the day before the American
release! I was amazed. Plus there was a couple of copies behind the counter
being held for someone so there are more DT fans in this area. and just to
make the last couple of weeks more amazing, I was in Trillians rock bar on
Monday and someone put 4 songs from FII on the jukebox. I also noticed that
outside Pet Sounds and JC guitar workshop at the bus stops opposite Central
Station someone has written DT on one of the walls.

Ok, the Saga Chapters story is a full story with all the chapters fitting together. The story is about an alien locust race that is coming to destroy earth because we don't take care of it. Polution, crime, etc. The alien locusts give us one chance, they reincarnate Albert Einstein (as they believe he was/is the best of our race) and put him in the form of a locust (one of them). He has to convince us to change or be destroyed. It was written by Jim Crichton. Very Sci-Fi.

I stand corrected. I don't have all of the discs, so I
was never able to put it all together. (Those early
discs are hard to get.) So how do they all fit
together? Is there some story? Are they musically
related? Is there a title for the whole story?

I've just noticed something really weird. While I've been listening to SFAM
I have sometimes been seeing the characters in my head saying the lines, and
the characters look like you would imagine them to look like because of
their personalities. The strange thing is that what I imagined Victoria to
look like is what the girl from the front cover of Images and Words would
    look like when older.

There's really no correlation between Dream Theater's "breaking through" to
the pop audience and their position on the Billboard charts. Everyone's
getting excited that SfaM debuted at 73, talking about DT finally 'making
it', but guess what? Awake hit #32! And does anyone remember Dream Theater
being 'popular' back then? Nope.. I saw someone say they thought 60 was the
highest this albu would go.. just goes to show that Dream Theater can climb
the charts much higher and it still won't make much of a difference.

For those interested in more great prog, Spock's Beard leader Neal Morse has a self-titled solo CD out now on Radiant/Metal Blade. It isn't quite as proggy as SB; it's more poppy. Excellent disc. Iluvatar has finally released "A Story Two Days Wide" their third album of new music, fourth overall. I'm waiting from that one from Kinesis. Buy that one from Kinesis at www.kinesiscd.com along with alot other cool prog bands. End of annoucement...

    Hey Gang.
Just to let you guys who haven't seen or heard of Virgil Donati know...
Virgil is an awesome drummer from here in Melbourne, Australia. He was
originally in a top 40 original band called Southern Sons, whose music
although being top 40, still had an edge of "hard rock" about it. He also
featured in a local metal cover band called "ROAR", who I had the pleasure
of playing with a few times in my old band called "Black Reign". He also
played in DREAM THEATER tribute band down here, who only played a handful
of shows but were awesome!! His heart is very much in the prog scene.
Recently he has been involved with Derek Sherinian in his PlanetX project, I
    believe.
Virgil definately has an excellent future and is a guy that I'm rapt to see
is finally getting some credit internationally!

       FRIENDS AND ASSOCIATES:
The FIRST and ONLY time this message will be mailed to you.

    On one beautiful day :
Can you imagine what it would be like to own stocks that always
go up and not down? Well believe it or not we have found not
    just one...but three such stocks!

On September 1, 1998 we started monitoring the activities of what
we shall call Companies No 9, 10 and 11.
We had been informed by our broker that he had made lots and lots
of money with these stocks and we needed to see for ourselves.
He was right. One year and two months later, these stocks are
    still going up.

    Naturally, we bought.

The stock market is a very complicated and incoherent place.
Dependent on such a large number of very diverse and often
totally unpredictable factors, such as the political situation in the
world, the situation on the world share markets, the state of affairs
in the particular area of business of the company whose shares you
have acquired, the situation within the company itself, and so on and
so forth that it practically becomes entirely hopeless for the ordinary
non-professional to figure out these factors and try and take into account
something at least. Pretty hard not to loose money.

We have not lost any money yet. In fact we have made quite a lot.

YOU TOO CAN PURCHSE THESE STOCKS
Simply put in your order below for "The Cash Machine 2000 Package"
which gives you all the information on what company produces these
sensational stocks and how you can contact them and purchase.

Can we guarantee that these 3 very "special" stocks will continue
to go up and not down? No, of course not and we would be very
foolish to try and maintain the position that we think they will.
But having said that, we honestly believe that this company
has done everything required of them to be able to maintain
the upward movement of these stocks. Not just today, but in the
    months ahead.

The fact is...today is your lucky day!
You can do as well as we have, perhaps even better!

    QUESTION
The familiar question is...if we have done so well why are we not
just using our millions to retire and not work anymore.
Well we could...but life would be pretty dull and boring then.
    Once an entrepreneur...always an entrepreneur!

    DEMONSTRATED VALUE
Since the value of these stocks has been clearly demonstrated
to us and so has the stability of the exchange they are trading on
that if YOU want to acquire the knowledge of:
"How To Buy Stocks That Always Go Up And Not Down"
we are ready to release that information to the
entire world financial market and to you in particular.
And why not? You deserve a break today!

No one else will likely approach you with this very same offer, so you
have one chance and one chance only: THIS IS IT.

In so far as we know, these three stocks are the only example
of their kind anywhere in the world today.
Day traders would kill to have this kind of information.
Maybe some of them have :-)
These stocks are totally stable. Fully protected from any outside
    interference and virtually autonomous.

YOU PUT YOUR MONEY IN AND WATCH IT GROW
What joy! You buy, you sell, you make a profit never a loss.

    >He kills Nick because he can continue his revenge on Victoria >this way. Call it a 'Soul Vendetta", haha. :)

Well, I think it's closer to what someone said a bit earlier: It's a never ending battle between the two souls.

hence the phrase - it keeps coming back to me - "you both shall be confined to this mind". My suspicion is that a higher being has placed the souls of the sleeper and the miracle in one mind, or at least shared minds, as some kind of punishment we have yet to learn about. And these two souls will continue to be stuck with other, always finding each other - no matter the bodies they inhabit - eternally linked to each other's lives. Maybe Miracle always whacks Sleeper, or maybe sometimes the Sleeper gets the last laugh. Regardless, a higher being is trying to teach them a lesson. Most of this is in Pt. 1: "It can only take place when the struggle between our children has ended." What can only take place? I would venture the third eternal dance - the dance of love.

My guess is that Metropolis is like the Twilight Zone, or even better - "The Nightmare Cafe". Most of you guys probably don't remember(then again, with this list....) but that was a short lived horror show in the early nineties, hosted by robert englund, where every week a person or persons would end up in this diner that was actually a portal to another dimension, so that they could resolve something in their life. "Quantum Leap" is another good comparison, but let's not go there because there's too many contradictions. Finally, it's a little reminiscent of "The drawing of the three", Steven King's second book in the Dark Tower series. In that story, the characters travel through time and space via another world - it happens to be a beach from which they jump to and fro, but it could just have well been a "metropolis".

Point being, in Met. 1 we get the intro, the summary of what the weekly show is all about. "Dr. what's his name figured out how to travel through time. now he jumps from body to body, blah blah blah..."

And Met. 2 was just one episode in a series of stories that take place between our two souls.

Now I think that makes a lot of sense, but I've still been trying to figure out how I can relate that to some of the things that confuse me.

    1) Home. What is all this about home? It's the title of a song, and "home" is mentioned through the album, and "she's taken you to your home" is on pt.1 while "she's.....to MY home" on pt. 2. There's gotta be something there, and here's what i think: I think the house in this story is the portal to the "metropolis" dimension. I don't have the lyrics in front of me, but there's a scene where Nick goes into the house, and the walls disappear and he sees victoria with either julian or edward. I wasn't sure. The point is, maybe that's to be taken literally and the house is like a doorway, where we can see other places and other times.

    2) in pt. 1, "metropolis watches and thoughtfully smiles", in pt.2, "victoria watches and....". This must be related, but how? I've been going on with the assumption that Met. is a place run by a higher being, but perhaps they're one and the same. the place IS the being. I don't see what vicky has to do with that, though. Unless.... maybe, as part of the "lesson" that Metropolis is trying to teach the two souls, it actually manufactures new people - out of it's own energy - to participate in the stories. Using this logic, Victoria is, well... a pawn of sorts. she is created by "metropolis", and so in a sense, she IS "metropolis", and her purpose is provide a conflice between the two souls, a conflict that maybe they can overcome, and finally the "struggle" can end. That's also how her home( if I understand correctly) can be a portal. If this is true, then nicholas is basically a by-product of it all. The album takes place from his point of view, but he's really just an NPC(that's geek-speak for non-playing character - one that is in the story, but can have no actual effect on any outcome.)

    3) All of this leaves a huge question: what happens to the sleeper??? We never hear from him again? Julian had to reincarnate into someone, and my guess is that that will be the subject of the next installment, should there be one.

    4) I still stick to my idea that nicholas reincarnates into the old man. Time travel isn't that ridiculous when we're dealing with reincarnation. And, this reinforces the NPC concept. Nicholas's soul, once it has played its part as Vicky, is no longer needed for the story, but can still be IN the story, on the sidelines.

    5) "This.....is for you!" I just felt like saying that. It's a cool line.

As for julian lying on top of victoria, that doesn't mean they were bumping uglies just then. They could have just been playing tonsil hockey, or maybe, you know, a little dry hump action. This would allow him to already be on top of her, and she could scream with her eyes closed, and Ed could tell her to open them, and so on. Whoever came up with this, I think it's a really good theory that I didn't see in the faq. It should be added.

I got no more to say, jerkies.

seems like the same three guys all critique every disc they review....I'd think the 0/5 rating the one guy gave SFAM is more than balanced by the GLOWING 5/5 reviews the other two gave.....

thanks for pointing out the site, btw....think i might be checking it out in the future.....

Has he been in VH that long? Hasn't it been less than two years?

BTW, if this rumor about Cherone being gone is actually true - I'd venture to guess that Ed had something to do with it...... He doesn't seem to get along well with lead singers! :P

haha I actually HAVE a wave file that someone created about 2 years ago on IRC where one of the Nirvana songs starts going and then they put in the shotgun blast and YELL from Doom when your character dies. Pretty funny. If anyone wants it, just shoot me a private piece of Email and I'll send you the wave file. It's only 111kb, pretty small.

Wow, so many of you remeber the SOD. Yup Billy was beind an asshole. I remeber he asked if anyone liked ICP, Korn or Limp Bizkit, when epolpe rasied there hands he said get the fuck out of here and made fun of each band. Now Charlie listed Life is Peachy as one of his top five fav's of 96. personally, I am realizing (don't flame) how original Korn's sound was in 94, with the first album. So many bands copied, that's what suks. I am finding myself liking them actually.

As for VH, get DLR back, let gary reform Extreme with Mike Mangini on drums, and it all will fall into place. VH 3 sucked ass anyway, except for a few tunes.

In some kind of drunken stupor, Kurt M Hampton wrote something to the effect of: > As for VH, get DLR back, let gary reform Extreme with Mike >Mangini on > drums, and it all will fall into place. VH 3 sucked ass >anyway, except for a few tunes.

I have to agree here...Van Halen was only good with DLR...even if he is a fucking moron...Extreme reuniting would be badass as long as they go back to the old days when they played fun party songs, and Nuno wasn't afraid to shred...or even just cool orchestral stuff, anything but that crap they had on "Punchline." Call me a retard, but I always thought Extreme was WAY ahead of everything else that was going on at the time.

Also, those who were commenting on Jay Foucher...what little I've heard from her just kicks my ass all over the place...She ROCKS!!!!! I swear she must be John P.'s long lost twin sister or something...AWESOME stuff!

***New marketing concept for SFaM...Free Beer with purchase of SFaM...I guarantee in Tallahassee, Fl. it would sell a couple thousand copies if Free beer was involved :) ...not to mention a person with a nice beer buzz going tends to be a lot more open minded musicly. Hell, how do you think Creed got to be so sucessful...FREE BEER was served at MANY of their early gigs!!!!!! (True Story, I was there!) Speaking of Creed...Many Jammers have been talking about eMpTyV and how it makes or breaks a band. FYI Creed's "My Own Prison" went Triple Platinum based pretty much on radio play, and a tight live show...DT has the tight live show, now they just need people to kindly...and I mean Kindly nag the radio stations to get some results. Even if they play older DT, some airplay is better than none...if the station won't play "Home" but has played other DT songs in the past...request old DT!!! I can't tell you how many people come into my store, hear ANY DT, and say "Hey, what happened to those guys??" and walk out with a DT album they never knew existed. Let's refresh people's memory folks!!! Also VH1's rock show has requests on Friday nights...I have no clue how you contact them for that stuff, but the show is getting a huge following...maybe we should swamp them with some requests for Vintage DT...surely they'll mention the new album or something before/after they play the video.

    Cheers!

Those who want to know.....Sony had come out with an Mp3 CD walkman kinda thing couple of months ago. I don't know if its been marketed outside Japan tho.I think it was priced at $300; but I may be wrong. Those who want to listen to MP3 songs in your cars can relax now I guess

    Hey 'jammers,

I think Dream Theater definitely made it this time. What they tried to do with FII -making a CD that many people like-, they have reached with SFaM. Don't always think about Backstreet Suckers when you think of Popular Music. Heavy Stuff is Popular as well (i.e.: Metallica, Offspring, Type 0 Negative, the list goes on...).

My key experience was a friend of mine. A huge fan of Metallica and the Böhse Onkelz (German jammers will know who I mean), he always respected DT because of their musical ability, but never really liked to listen to their music. I made him listen to SFaM and he went out and bought it, saying that it hasn't left his CD-Player ever since.

If DT did actually start at #8 in Germany, I think this is the proof of what we always knew... THIS IS THE BEST MUSIC!!

    Just my two cents

    Alex

Hi Ytsejammers! The following week gonna blast me away! First on Mon. November 8th I'll be in Hamburg, Germany to see OFB beginning the official METROPOLIS 2000 tour! And one day later, on Tues. I'll see them here in Hannover, Germany. Can't wait to hear the new stuff live and finally see Rudess live. Finally free ;-)) Ah, BTW: Here in Germany DT just took the No. 1 position in the German CD Charts! Way ahead of such crap like Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears. <LOL>
