On an interesting side-bar, April Wine of all bands
did a cover of this song on their '79 album 'Harder,
Faster'. Interesting how a 'normal' 70's-80's guitar
band would cover something prog, eh?

    Hi all

question: which film music have Dream Theater often used before
coming on stage? Answer: theme from A Clockwork Orange. Question:
what was the name of the house in the film A Clockwork Orange
in which the ultra-violence and the
old in-out took place? Answer: Home. So, now it's easy to figure
out the end of the album. Our hero goes to his house, his head now
clear of all things schizo, only to have 7 different colours of shit
kicked out of him by Alex and his droogs who are paying one of their
surprise visits. It's so simple - why didn't any of you lot come
    up with this before?

    I think I need a big drink...

    Hello everyone!

    post, which continued with;

Whoah! Easy dude. I know that the written word sometimes leaves things as
sounding rude, but honestly that was not my intent. I'm trying to find the
a clear way to get out what I wanted to imply. More like it "appears" that
certain families seem to have a "curse". Just something that can't be
explained. The Kennedy family certainly has it's share.

what we are. All that we learn this time, is carried beyond this life" <

    >Which, as i read them, have nothing to do with the father/son connection.
It sounds more like the connection between souls in different incarnations,
karma and all that good stuff we'll never understand......

True. I personally don't believe in reincarnation, but I do believe in
genetic traits being passed from generation to generation. So when people
say they've seen someone from their past, I believe it's possible "in their
mind" to feel some sort of connection. I also believe that there are
certain people who seem to have a sixth sense. I feel these people are
just born with a heightened awareness of it, I don't think that you can
take a one-day seminar and be a psychic. Ok, I'll stop now because I
don't wish to offend anybody, this is just my particular viewpoint.

    >Sounds to me like it's mostly a point-in-time reference, telling us the
time-frame in which that particular part of the story takes place.

I'm kind of puzzled at this. I always got a vibe from Met. Pt 1 that it
was more of a Greek myth type of thing. This changeover to 1928 time seems
like a big time jump. SFaM is great, I absolutely love Jame's voice on
this. Tells a good story. Just kind of puzzled on a few things, but who
    isn't eh?

I think you're forgetting that it was set up to look like a
murder-suicide. The cops wouldn't have thought that Julian was having
sex with Victoria, then shot her (while they were still in the act),
then committed suicide by shooting himself twice in the back! :)

I do think Edward probably killed them sometime just after perhaps.

Are you sure? I am almost certain that the cobra hypnotist, the guy with
the bald head, the psychadelic shield, the guy who masterminded the
creation of Serpentor WAS, in fact, Dr. Mindbender. If not, of whom am I

something I was thinking of the other day: Wouldn't Edward have to, after
shooting Julian and Victoria, put the gun in Julians hand and fire it?
You know, to make sure that Julian had the discharge on his hand?

you know, that is assuming they were shot and not stabbed. ;)

Aye. Dr. Mindbender was the mastermind behind the creation of Serpentor,
but there was another guy who came with a hypno-shield. Dr. Mindbender was
more of an "evil scientist" type. This other guy was one of the lame
creations that were perpetuated around that time. He was like called Dr.
Hypno or something. I think he came out at the same time as Raptor, who I
thought was really lame as well. :P

But that's right, he had a black moustache and black hair. Dr. Mindbender,
I remember came with a nifty brain manipulation device, this other guy just
    came with the hokey shield.

Just heard about this on the radio, and this comes off the VH website:

November 5, 1999 - Every day there is a new rumour about Van Halen going around the Internet. Today is no exception. However, unlike most days, the rumour making the rounds today is being reported almost everywhere. The rumour reads like this: Gary Cherone has left Van Halen after three

years to pursue new musical adventures (Source: E! Online) The story is also being reported by MTV News, Billboard and the Hollywood Reporter. As we all know, it's not every day that a singer leaves Van Halen. Something as big as this is usually accompanied by a press release. None has been forthcoming so far.

But remember - we're always somebody's "children" - no matter how old we are! So there's no way to pinpoint the ages of the Miracle and the Sleeper. I keep thinking of the last few lines of Met. Pt 1 (which will always be my favorite DT tune)- "Metropolis watches and thoughtfully smiles, she's taken you to your home. It can only take place when the struggle between our children have ended - now the Miracle and the Sleeper know that the third is love. Love is the dance of eternity"

For me, my response is that Met Pt. 1 always ended on a positive note - starts out morbid, but has a hopeful ending. Whereas SFaM does just the opposite, starts out calm, ends on a sour note (no pun intended).

Man, I think I've posted more in the last 7 days than I have in 3 or 4 years (big laugh).

Now you're much closer to my theory on the death scene. Here it is (I have extrapolated a bit):

    - Victoria tells Edward she's leaving him. She doesn't tell him why or who her new lover is. ("He'd kill his brother if he only knew.")

    - Edward can't take it. He's the one who's really crazy (obsessed) about Victoria. (As opposed to Julian, who is probably just back for a little fun). Edward writes the suicide note for himself. He's going to kill himself.

    - The "home" that keeps coming up is surrounded by gravel pathways. We hear this in the sound effects. It is where Edward and Victoria live, and is the same house that Nick ends up living in when he is old. This is where the murder occurs, on a "pathway out of view" near the house. This is where Victoria and Julian plan on meeting.

    - Edward is sitting in the house, contemplating what angle to put the pistol in his mouth. He hears some noise outside, and walks out with the gun in his hand. He still doesn't know that Victoria is going back with Julian.

    - He comes upon Julian and Victoria. The first gasp is Edward, realizing what is going on.

    - Edward and Julian start a struggle. Julian has a knife. As they struggle, the gun goes off once in the air. The gun goes off again, pops Julian in the head.

    - Victoria screams and closes her eyes.

    - Edward is in a blind rage now. Looks at Victoria so distraught over Julian, says "Open your eyes Victoria", and plugs her a couple of times.

    - Ed goes back in the house.

    - Julian is not quite dead yet (some people even survive shots to the head.) He crawls over to Victoria "one last time".

    - In the house, Ed feels better now, his demons are exorcised (at least in this life...). He goes back out and plants his own suicide letter on Julian. Gets the police and gives his eyewitness account.

im not sur ehow the rest of the catalog placed, but dont forget that this is based on sales from internet stores such as CDNOW.COM and other stores that have been pre-ordering SFAM for a few weeks now. all of those pre orders are saved until after the record is released and are counted as first week sales. look at the other billboard charts and the showing isnt as high, but i am not at all surprised that the new CD placed that high in the first week as the band has a tremendous internet following.

I am a huge DT fan. I have truly enjoyed every cd. They are all so different, I don't want to compare them. I LOVED Images and Words. My hubby and I heard it at a club every time we went to see this Journey/Queensryche/Kansas cover band several years ago. We finally went out and bought it. Wow! Then we purhcased Awake and WDaDU. I was stunned by the difference from one cd to the next. It was amazing. By the time ACoS came out and the FII, we were completely hooked. We saw them twice in Chicago while they were Touring into Infinity. I could hardly stand myself waiting for the new cd. WOW again!!! It awes me. It just begs to be played and played and played. It's cool to watch a band like DT grow and change from cd to cd.

I for one have liked the diversity from Kevin to Derrick to Jordan. They all brought different features to the band, but essentially, they are all VERY talented. I have loved all of the LTE stuff, the MULLMUZZLER, the Platypus, etc. I have had nothing in my cd player for the last couple of weeks, except SFaM or some album with some member of DT. That is pure enjoyment.

Thanks, guys, for another cd. It truly rocks like the rest if them. See ya in the Windy City!!!

Another avid DT fan of the female persuasion,

    BEEOTCH!

exactly! i really dont think they were having sex, i think the "one last time, we lay down today" meant them lying on the ground together, dying. what would you feel, if you and your lover were both lying on the ground, looking into each other's eyes, as you faded into darkness? i think that has a much stronger effect than "they had sex". moo.

Marilyn Monroe for starters!!! Someone thought he was evil enough to shoot him. Was it a hit job? Anyone know the actual full story here? Who knows what crimes a family have committed over the generations. It is called Vendetta in Italian!

]From what I have heard the whole family has been 'unlucky' in the past. Wasn't Bobby Kennedy also shot and didn't someone have a go at Teddie at some time? Got it in the arm I seem to remember.....

And as for Bill Clinton - well all I can say is flavoured cigars! 8-p

Hmm beg to differ! I have a photo of myself playing the piano at about 1 year old (except that my paws were a bit small then)!!!!!!

Aye that we do - but what if she was on the Jam under an alias? She would get ignored and contradicted methinks, unless she started talking about 25 inch rubber dildos or hallucinogens of course .....

Also check out guitarist Jennifer Batten - she played superb guitar synth stuff (and her usual two handed tapping) on the recent Jeff Beck tour of the UK
