Free. Thanks for pointing that out Al. Better put this damn crackpipe
    down.

    <Bass: Levin and BILL DICKENS

<Drums: Portnoy, Morgenstein, or MIKE MANGINI - the dude is a genius.

<We had a small debate about Campitelli a long time ago - I contend that he

<little too mechanical. Just my thoughts... :)

Agreed on that. Campitelli is not a match for Portnoy or Mangini (whose limb
    coordination IS scary...)

<has no place in Progressive Music, because Progressive Music must be

It is not a question of being upset or sense of humour or so... Technically
and musically it is really okay, it just does NOT fit into the rest of the
    song - IMHO.

don't you think that since Edward was the only "witness" to the crime it was in fact a clever ploy on his part to make the police believe
that Julian had in fact killed Victoria? It probably went something like this: Ed kills Julian first (hence the screams from Victoria) he
then kills Victoria after which he places Julians dead body on top of Victoria, making it look like Julian had died after Victoria (and
commited suicide after killing his lost love...) when in fact Jules was the first to die. Ed then tells the police his watertight story

    Take care,
    Phil

It's the last five notes of the band unison before the octaved key

I'm surprised that no one has started listening to the CD backward for the
    secret message yet.

I tell you if you listen to the gambling scene backward on Home, you
distinctly hear the gambler saying: "hgih llor seitnewT. sklof, pu thgir
    petS"

Or something like that. It's kind of hard to hear.

And if you follow the chord scheme in the middle if Beyond This Life, it
    comes out as "CABBAGE BAG"

Could cabbage bags mean anything? :) I bet that's what it's all about.
Edward killed Veronica and Julian for their cabbage bag recipe. woohoo!

You're wrong. Of course I've listened to the record backward, but that was of course just the first step in unveiling the conspiracy that is going on here...

about 53 sec. into the Beyond this live someone whispers: playthiiisrecoordtogethher- withhhimagesssannndwooorrrdsimultanioouslyyyyoofffcourrsebacckwardddss.....

-And now the interesting thing occurs: There's some subtones in the bass that actually makes the cones in the speakers fluctuate in patterns. -And these patterns actually were morse-code....I mean: What, just regular morse-code!!! They really did a lousy job on this.

Well, anyway: Here's the message: EARTHWILLBEINVADEDATTHEFIRSTDAYINTHENEWMILLENNIUM- WECOMEFROMTHESTARSYSTEMSIRIUSTODESTROYYOUALL... -At first I was chocked, then, as I watched the pictures of the guys, I realised that they all have a unnatural look, as if they wore synthetic masks...

-So, the tiny bits fits together, and I'm just in the middle of building a mini-submarine. I think that is the only way to survive...

My experience with terrestrials clearly points in the direction of a massive rain-attack for about a month, and then some serious radiation of the survivors, then the rest is hunted down with regular ray-guns, or maybe a photon bomb, or two... -SO BE PREPARED!!!

    hi there,

    1. the ending: i don't think it's a rocking chair, but somebody sneaking up, BUT: i don't here anymore but nick being startled. we shouldn't jump to the conclusion that he dies.

    2. nick being a young brother of j and e? what about: >now the miracle and the sleeper know that the third is love< Metroplis aka The Mother but they are struggling anyway. I don't know.

    3. anybody notice the variation on ACoS the inevitable summer( the third arrives... before the leaves have fallen)[somebody already mentioned huge similarities](acos 20:13),(tDoE 4:43) which leads into the lines: >I'm much wise now A LIFETIME OF MEMORIES RUNS THROUGH MY HEAD they taught >me how for better or wors, ALIVE OR DEAD< nick has these memories of somebody else's lifetime

on other notes, I always wanted to say that the *bang* in acos 18:37 reminds my of pet cemetary wher the little kid gets killed by the truck.

Finally free, what a song. that start of the second verse is just awesome and the melodie is just, mmmh, perfect in all aspects (feeling good...together soon) the backing vocals: aren't they really cool, I mean, not only james's, but also mike and john(and I also love that 3rd line of the OLT chorus)

I have to agree, the whole track has a "Death on Two Legs" feel to it. I'm not sure who is the Queen fan in the band, but I felt that "Anna Lee" was very Queen-like, even down to the drum sound. FT is my fave track on the CD at the moment.

Is anyone else having problems with the names of the tracks..? I listen to this cd as a whole, one continuous piece, I haven't got used to the individual names yet it is just...

That Denon model is a decent machine. As theater stuff goes. Don't rule out Rotel, Adcom, or Sunfire. http://www.rotel.com/ - http://www.adcom.com/ http://www.sunfire.com/

EQ??? A good system doesn't need an EQ.. IMHO, just more noisy shit in the signal path. Spent the money on room treatment, if needed.

Then the > insecure person must not only vow to not like said music, but to make fun > of it to make himself feel better about being so inadequate. >

Ignorance is only a small part of why prog is not accepted. You think the 15 year old kid who likes Nookie by Limp Bizkit feels like he's being talked down when listening to DT?? Sorry but I don't think you know too many people who listen to that stuff. He doesn't like DT because there aren't enough vocals and, you can't dance to it, it's not heavy enough, they don't have a dj, or a multitude of other reasons. But I will bet anything he doesn't feel stupid when hearing Dream Theater. Or how about the jazz or classical listener who listens to stuff just as musically complex as Dream Theater? He sure as hell isn't being talked down to.

Having this attitude is not going to gain prog any fans.

    > If you think it's "just music" than it's OBVIOUS that the person who just > doesn't get it is you. >

Steve, I suggest you take everything with a grain of salt. Listening to DT is not a life and death situation. If you think I enjoy DT any less than you because I find humor to be appropriate in music than you're wrong. Obviously Dream Theater take their music very seriously but it's still music and music is supposed to be entertaining. Bands go about entertaining their audience in many different ways. Some play music you can dance to and some play music that pisses you off. In DT's case it's about 99% very serious music that conveys many different emotions. Personally, I'm glad to see one of those emotions is the fact that the band can be very tongue in cheek and avoids becoming overly pompous.

    > Even if I LIKED Jordan's part, there is no way that it "fits perfectly."

In my opinion it does. The whole point of the Dance of Eternity was to go completely over the top. Unlike other DT instrumentals, such as ytsejam or Erotomania, there is no running theme throughout. It's more like the instrumental break in the original metropolis as it just kind of flows and keeps evolving and changing. And I find that Jordan's part coming out of left field ironically is actually right in place BECAUSE it is coming out of nowhere.

I agree with Calvin. The bass is very evident on my stereo and hell, even on my jambox in the bedroom, where I'm listening to the CD as I type.

I think it's just a random sampled sound to add some ambience. I notice in the liners that they use a few sound library cds.

The background vox on that particular part (I'm *almost* positive here) are "love, deceit, death" which is of course how the whole story panned out, as well as being the theme from Met 1...more genius.

YtseTex says, <<5) I dont know if this has been brought up, but I think DT (mainly Mr. Portnoy) should get the story line together and make a tripped out movie like Pink Floyd's "The Wall". I bet Mikey would love to make a movie. A perfect addition to his entertainment career.>>

Absolutely! I thought that as soon as I got a good listen to it. It's not a collection of songs, but an album...a masterpiece. It'd be (pardon my French) FUCKING AWESOME!!

I'll help make it, if you need me :o)
