Dude, hell no! Z-Rock was pure metal radio! (though it was starting to go
alternative around the time it died). It was nationally syndicated metal
radio. Not only was it the first place I ever heard of DT, but (get this):
they also held a contest one year and the winner got guitar lessons from:
guess who.... that's right! Jon Petrucci! some lucky guy with a winning dog
tag number got teachings from the man himself. Gods.. I miss Z-Rock. Anyway,
what relevance does any of this stuff arguing over this station have to the
    list? I say this:

When requesting the song, make sure it's within the station's parameters.
IMO asking the Buzz to play Home would be like asking a country station..
it's a waste of time and effort that coule be put to productive use
elsewhere. The same could be said of other radio stations, in any town.

sites now and no one seems to have it or mention what it is (including the
FAQ). What is the name of the font and where (if anywhere) can I download it?

For the money, you can't go wrong with the Zoom. Sure, it's not exactly
Hi-fi (Al, don't get on my case!), but the chorus effect is really nice (the
"Crystal" chorus is especially great on softer songs). If you tweak the
distortion patches, you can get some killer sounds (I use my whammy pedal
with them, and my guitarist runs into the corner! Spring for the expression
pedal also, it's $50, but worth it for the volume control alone. If you've
got $350, buy the Digitech BP-8 Paradigm (can't go wrong with a unit named
after a LTE song!), but for under $100 US, the Zoom is a great bargain.

    IT F***IN' ROCKS!!!!
I am now even more excited about hearing this album in its entirity!!!!
IMO, if this little taster is any indication of the songwriting/production
of the rest of the album, it will no doubt be the "masterpiece" that we have

WOW! I wish I could be in Europe this winter to see that. IMO, tho, I
think that QR should be opening for the Tea Party (flames welcome :), but
nonetheless that's a really smooth show. That "Edges of Twilight" album is

    amazing.

    Hi gang!

Here is a little snippet I grabbed from Hard Radio's interview page.
The interview is with Bruce Dickinson and Adrian Smith.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The conversation moves to digital versus analog recording:

BD: People's ears have gotten so degraded because a CD is only sixteen bits. Most people
don't understand what "sixteen bits" means-they think sixteen bit is good. Every
molecule of iron oxide that moves is a bit. Until you've got, you know, three hundred
    thousand bit sampling.

AS: They have all kinds of modules you can hook up to your digital stuff to make it
    sound like analog, but...
BD: It will never sound like analog because it doesn't have the information. If you
record it digitally, you will never have it; you're f**ked. In other words, when they
bring in sixty-four bit CD's or DVD's, the Beatles records are going to sound
unbelievable. People are going to go, "Wow, what did they do to the Beatles records?"
Nothing. They always sounded like that, it's just that they sounded so lame on CD.
And the fact is that vinyl, really good vinyl on an amazing system, kicks the shit out
of the best CD on the planet. Whatever poor fools have recorded and mastered their
albums thinking, "Hey, I recorded it on Sony 24 bit..." Hey, that's as good as it is
ever going to sound, only 24 bit. So that's the end of my tirade against digital
    recording. What was the question?

Me, I always wanted Rush to have a slightly harder, groove-oriented sounds. Tiles. A progmetal band that doesn't sound even REMOTELY influenced by DT? Tiles. Those two things alone make it sound pretty fresh to me...

Basically I agree with this. But I wonder where Awaken the Guardian is... I'd put it between No Exit and PS. Definitely for me APSoG is their best album. It is heavier than their other recent releases.

As for production, I`d have to say that I care more about the songwriting than the production, e.g., the first DT album that I ever heard was WDADU. The production was awful, but I loved the song style enough to buy their next release. And I`m glad I did. James LaBrie is a much better singer. (And the production is better, too.)

    Ok,

So, we (me and wifey) arrived at about 7:15. There was a big queue which snaked around the whole building, I think the Tabernacle holds around 2000, and this placed was sold out solid. The venue was quite small, and I can't describe the excitement as we walked into the room to see Alan White's drum kit - just there in front of me... We got right to the front (on the left), so when Yes took the stage (to the resounding sounds of the "Firebird Suite") Steve Howe was about 3 feet away from us...oh baby...!

He cranked into "Yours Is No Disgrace", the crowd went mad, my wife started crying and an emotional night of Yes Music kicked off in a big way. Steve was great, so concentrated, so close to us. Jon was great, his singing is perfect, he smiles and waves to everyone, he seems so happy with where he is at the moment, dressed all in white, he seems so angelic and spiritual, I would love to meet this guy, it would be an uplifting experience I'm sure. Chris was on fire, he jumps around and has a great time, again smiling at the whole crowd. Billy was confident, he does great backing vocals and doesn't seem too phased at being the new boy. He introduced "Cinema" (and played it really well). They also did "Owner of a Lonely Heart" and "Hearts", with Billy expertly taking all of Trevor Rabin's parts (vox and guitars). Alan played excellently, but somehow always looks like it's very hard work. Igor (the new keys man) played well but seemed a little annonymous (but he was kind of hidden from view a lot).

They played 5 tracks off of "The Ladder" and really seemed to be into their new stuff (which is no suprise as it is their best work for years). The only gripe is that the volume was too much, not only for us but for the guys on stage, they all spent too much time motioning to the sound guy to turn down the monitors, it was a shame, the night would have been perfect otherwise. High points - "Homeworld" was amazing and comes across so well in a live setting, the hypnotic middle section of "Awaken" with Jon playing the harp (and Chris on a 3 neck bass), and the beautiful "Nine Voices". A great night - if Yes come anywhere near you on this tour - go and see them - they are amazing, I'm hoping to catch them in the UK next year at the Royal Albert Hall...!

Set List - Firebird Suite, Yours Is No Disgrace, Time and a Word (excerpt), Homeworld, Perpetual Change, Lightning Strikes, New Language, Nous Sommes Du Soleil (excerpt), Cinema, Owner of a Lonely Heart, It Will Be a Good Day, Face To Face, Hearts, Nine Voices, Awaken, I've Seen All Good People, And You And I, Roundabout

    Later,

I'm not a very bright guy, but after reading his original post, I guess it doesn't take very much to realize why MP has wanted to keep this album such a secret... Anyway, I won't say I'm pissed and that it's ruined the album for me (haven't heard anything yet, not even the soundclips...), I'll still go out and get it as soon as I can, but since Skadz was so serious about not allowing especulations about the album here in the Jam, he should have stopped that from coming...

Hi folks, There was a bit posted earlier on the choice of "Home" as a single versus "Strange Deja Vu." I have to agree with the comment that the latter would have been a more choice single, but that's only because I really dig the segues from "Regression"-> "Overture 1928"-> "Strange Deja Vu." Yum, reminds me of Rush with its chord layering. Speaking of Rush (somewhat related...?), what are your opinions on Tiles - Presents of Mind? I ordered this CD several weeks ago from CDNow, but it has yet to show up at my door. I blame the University's slow mail delivery. ;-)

Chris, I haven't been priveliged to hear the radio edit of Home, but I have heard the album version on Progged Radio. It is approximately 10-12 minutes long, maybe longer. If you listen to the words, there are strong references to Metropolis Pt1. Even when it is fading out you hear snippets of the intro to Met Pt1 in the background. I am not saying that this is Met Pt2, but what I am saying is that there is a "lot" going on in the music. I had an oppertunity to hear some of the other music on Progged Radio and let me say this, NO ONE WILL BE DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS ALBUM. If you are, you need to have your head examined. There is some insane, twisted, upside down madness happening on this new album. I literally sat listening with my jaw on the floor in disbelief of what I was hearing.-----Folks, this will be, in my opinion, the best DT album to date. Take my word for it. That is my opinion for what it is worth.

I would definetly reccomend people check out Shadow Gallery or the first Lemur Voice before bothering with Tiles. But who knows...the more prog stuff I hear (and I've heard a shit-load of it) the more I realise DT is one in a million, and there's a reason why they are one of the few who've been successful at what they do.

Hi all and especially the Dutch,

A warning for those who don't want to know about the new album :

The Dutch metal magazine Aardschok has a review of the new album in the new issue (Issue 11, 1999), including a picture of the artwork. In the same issue there's an interview with the band, so if you really don't want to know about the new album before the release, I suggest to avoid the magazine until that time. So much for a veil of secrecy, it's probably better not to advertise and release promo's next time.

How can people pass judgment on a 5 minute DT song? DT songs are made to be "epic's" of sort and not to be cut into 5 minute "pieces" (but if it get's airplay then do it by all means...). You are only hearing half of the song (or only eating a "piece" of the pie... if I may)... I've hear both edits (yeah, i succumbed... so what!) and the song in it's entirity just flat out rocks... imo...

Let's just wait a few more days till we all freak out over what we are hearing...

Thanks to everyone who sent me info on the long version... I have been a faithful listener to Progradio (listen.to/progged) for a while now but sometimes you have to wade through some "crap" imho before you can request and hear home....

thanks for the help though... Jonathan Willey A.T.,C. Washington State Athletic Medicine

Well my latest cdnow shipment contained: 1. Mullmuzzler-This cd isn't bad. James sounds like he usually does on DT. Productionwise I would say something is lacking here. Its probably just the typical magna carta thing. Musicwise the guys james got are great. This disc isn't dt but it is very good.

    2. Queensryche:Q2k-this cd is ok. Basically to me just rehashed stuff that they previously did. More listens may be needed but QR doesn't seem to be progressing anywhere good.

    3. Tiles-this cd is ok but another overly ranted and raved disc by some members on this list. It definitely isn't the second coming of DT. I think the vocalist and the production isn't great either. I just think too many bands are jumping on the progmetal bandwagon where there are a few great bands and many so-so bands.

    4. Jim Matheos new one-for the type of music this disc is (new agish) its good.
