On the 1996 fan club CD, John is asked what he would like for Christmas. He replys with "...silence". I'm sorry, but I'd rather listen to a CD full of JM silence then Bruce Dickenson's drunken babble! (www.mikeportnoy.com fans will get this one!). I also personally got a laugh out of him when I told him that I had a petition started to get him on the cover of "Bass Player"

O.k. so ALL these people are talking about this prog band Tiles, they're touring throughout Europe with DT...so what the hell, I figure I'll buy the album and check it out. So...anyone wanna buy Tiles "Presents of Mind"???? I REALLY cannot get into this album, sure they're talented, the album cover is TOTALLY badass...but it's definetly not my thang. I personally reccomend all Jammers who were considering buying this CD to give it a listen first!

With all this talk of "Home" I must say the song COMPLETELY rules...of course I heard the full version before the radio edit...but I can't help but wonder

    ****SPOILERS BEGIN HERE!!****

Wouldn't "Strange Deja vu" make for a WAY better radio release??? I mean the song is VERY Mindcrime-esque...heavy riffs with tons of cool showy musicianship...like PMU, BMS, Lie, stuff that has previously recieved mainstream air time. Also I've noticed many a head turn whenever I play "Strange Deja vu" in my store, and had almost as many people ask who's playing the song...whereas "Home" which IS an awesome song...just doesn't seem to appeal to typical listeners...and the radio edit doesn't really do the song justice...IMHO.

    **** End SPOILERS!!!*****

Well, since this Yngwie thread has come up, and being a huge Yngwie fan as I am, I thought I'd drop my 2 cents on this... I saw Yngwie play live twice last year, and even though his writing skills may not be as good as they used to be ("Facing the Animal" in case, haven't heard the "Concerto" album yet), the guy still can shred his guitar like no one else, IMHO... Other than 4 or 5 songs from FtA (which I didn't mind at all, I liked some of the songs on that album), he only played his classics... He even sang "Purple Haze"... All of that just to say I still think he's a great player, no matter how bad some of his new stuff may sound...

PS: BTW, did anyone else also find a few "Yngwie-ism"'s in SFaM's tracklist?

In light of the success Al has been having with his local station, I suggest that we fill the inboxes of the radio stations listed at www.dreamtheater.com with requests for "Home" as well. I've already started. I figure if I spend 5 minutes here or there eventually every station on that list will get the message. If all of us were to do the same we could pretty much ensure air play for this CD all across the country.

Hey, could anybody give me their opinions/reviews on the Zoom 506 and Zoom 708 (I think) and Zoom 3000B bass effects processors? I can't really seem to find much real info as far as how good they are and such. I've never used effects before, so I want something relatively versatile and affordable, but good. From what I can tell, these look like they might be the kind of thing I'm looking for (and in the right price range). Also, anyone heard the second Niacin album? I'm VERY curious about it, but haven't heard anything about it as far as how it compares to the first one (which just rips :). Thanks a bunch.

I think we should organzie something (as Al is doing) in which everyone e-mails any radio stations that might possibly play DT, but since it would take forever to e-mail every radio station, let's just stick to the major cities (US). If we get the email for radio stations in 10 major US cities, that should pretty much cover it. If you dont do that, at least e-mail WYSP in philadelphia: wysp94@aol.com They've played DT before, but only late at night when nobody listens. Send your requests and lets get them into the regular rotation.

I'd say skip everything and just bombard KROQ in LA with DT requests. That's how Pearl Jam's "Last Kiss" became a hit. We could also e-mail the Howard Stern show since he played a part in getting Marilyn Manson's career launched. Laterz.

Must be nice. NONE of the stations would play it around Grand Rapids, even if I did ask, or people started an email campaign. The three or so local rock stations are all owned by the same corporation, and they ALL play what attracts advertisers (even the classic rock station WLAV, who rarely play anything outside their perpetual playlist). The "modern" rock station (WKLQ) used to have a great program called "Out of Control Saturday Night" and they used to play some great hard rock/metal. Every week, you could count on hearing at LEAST Lie, Pull Me Under, or Take The Time. But the show has since been pulled.

Ok, so I succumbed and downloaded the radio edit. I'm not impressed. First thoughts on the first minute or so was that I was listening to Drain STH with Mike Portnoy on vocals. I'll have to agree with Chris on Petrucci's wah pedal. I've never been a big fan of them (though I like the sounds Alan Morse can get out of his). Sounds like John may have been taking lessons from Tom Morello of RATM, whom we were just talking about. Part of the song has that very Rage-ish "wah wah" on beat one of every measure. Another thing I noticed about the song was that it's very predictable. One of the things I've always loved about Dream Theater was that their songs do not fall into that common "intro chorus verse chorus bridge outro chorus fade out" bit that so many bands (other than Tool, which is very noteworthy in that their songs defy traditional structure). Not so here at all.

But then again, this album has been huilt up so much that nothing short of perfection will completely satisfy me (kinda like when we looked for James spinning around in the Live in Tokyo video for 30 minutes before finding it... :P)

this is a radio edit. you expect it to maintain any of the original song's structure? listen to some of their other radio edits. the original version of Home is 13 minutes long, you can bet it's not just verse chorus all the way through. i would reccommend refraining from passing judgement till you hear the real thing. rest assured, it rocks ass :) moo.

Check. I just sent this to 107.5, The Buzz, here in Houston. _______ I was recently listening to The Buzz when I realized a great truth-- the song that was playing (by some local band) really sucked. In fact, I've noticed a real drop in the quality of music being played. The station claims to play new music after spinning Pearl Jam's "Even Flow", which was released in 1991. I love Pearl Jam and everything, but that song ISN'T new. So, I started thinking, what song can this station play to help balance things out a bit (hold your breath, here comes a real twist in the plot) and I came up with something. The "something" I refer to is Dream Theater's new single "Home". This song is heavy and best of all it's NEW; released mere days ago. Myself and other Dream Theater fans in Houston and on the internet have come to the consensus that this band needs more airplay than they currently recieve. The obvious solution to this problem is to play "Home". I'm certain that a copy of the single is available at the station. I'm not sure who the program director (or whomever makes these decisions) is, but you need to tell him/her that he/she should add "Home" into roation at The Buzz. Anything beats another local band. There's only fifty gamillion of those, I think no one will notice if you drop just one. Just a thought. Peace, love and wooden spoons. ________

Okeday, I've done my part. Now all of you who wish to assist the effort should go to www.thebuzz.com and click on Contact and e-mail any of the DJs listed. I'm not sure if they alone can correct the situation, but at least this way we can say that we did SOMEthing to help out with "The DT Project". Later y'all.

    >< Ok, so I succumbed and downloaded the radio edit. ><

Remember that you only heard 5 minutes of a 13-minute song.

The listing at the CD-Universe lists the new CD as Rock/Pop and the name of the producer is Kevin Shirley?? Any ideas?????

Also check Esprit :http://eil.com/ under Dream Theater and take a look at the albums they list and the prices. You'll be surprised.

Anyone aware of this Techno-Thrash band of the late 80's?? I just been at MoreMetal and their two first albums (I don't think they have more) are reissued. WOWOW. I've been looking for these gems since 1993. God is good and smiling at me hehe. Thought some of you might be interested.

Okay. a lot of snipping going on. Man, imo, the BUzz has always sucked. Besides, they were the first openly "alternative" station in Houston, and one of the goals of the alternative movement was the death of metal and "self indulgent" music. Home is not anywhere near their program range imo. We tried talking to KLOL. I could see them playing it long before the Buzz.

You speak the truth. However, I figured that KLOL had already been covered. Why settle for having one station playing "Home" when we could have two?

As for The Buzz being the first openly alternative station, I must disagree. I think ZRock was the first. It's old call number was 106.9, but now it's a Christian station (I dunno who made that call). They shut down my 8th grade year, I think. If we wanted to be real smart asses, we could e-mail 104 KRBE and tell them to play that hot new single from Dream Theater. :o)

Personally, can't wait for the new CD, I mean, they have their old logo back! I was hoping they wern't going to be a Motley Crue and change the logo every album. I can like DT again, finally (laying the sarcasm on pretty thick).

ohh, anyone who is going to see Queensryche on their US tour, Doubledrive is the opening act. In Europe the Tea Party is opening. I personally LOVE doubledrive, they are by far the best new act in a long time.
