Oh yes, Bert, I think that the other guys had at least _some_ amount of
sarcasm in their posts...I don't think that they _really_ thought he's
all silent, after all, he (according to UACM) recently became engaged
to Lisa, can one honestly say that a man can become engaged to a woman
and not to speak during the process ??? Oh c'mon...;)

(And yes, there's even _a little_ sarcasm in this post too...;)

Well, this is certainly good news. None of the hassle that accompanied
the release (or non-release) of FII, where the record company finally
decided it merited a UK release about two months after the rest of the
    world . . .

I have it ordered at CDNow as well, just in case. I don't mind having two
    copies af the album. :-)

I read the first printed review of SFAM today in Rock Sound (a new rock
magazine here in Britain). 3 out of 5 . . . reasonably complimentary, by
the standards of British rock journalists.

Well, for those Maiden fans out there, I don't know if this is good news or not, but I just read this from the official Iron Maiden website:

    >Maiden are now finalising new material for their new as yet untitled studio album. Recording will begin in November, with producer Kevin Shirley, who has recently worked with the likes of Aerosmith, The Black Crowes and Silverchair.<

So, I know that Bob Rock called and they said no, which is just fine by me, but Robert John Mutt Lange also wanted to produce the next record, and although I fully realise some of you may associate the man to Def Leppard (not that I don't like them), Bryan Adams and Shania Twain, he is also the man behind AC/DC's Back in Black. Anyway, I liked FII but OiaL didn't sound so well, mesa thinks. I don't know what I was hoping for, but Kevin Shirley wasn't it. Apologies to anyone else who likes what he does, it's just my own preferences. Although, I probably won't be thinking about this anymore on oct. 26.

    Hey Jammers!

I have to say that I really like DT's strategy of anticipation. By "slowly lifting the veil" they have made me yearning for the album even more. Now that I know the tracklisting, have seen puzzle parts of the cover and heard 10 second sound clips, I am sure that this is going to be just GREAT! I can't wait to visit my record store next monday and get a grip on SFaM. Doesn't everyone agree with me that this is the best way of raising anticipation without spoiling anything?

Hey, Mr "Leben ist wie Zeichnen ohne Radiergummi", I don't remember your name. Do you think there is a possibility you could mail me the DT Article from the Metal Hammer mag (scan it or something)? I looked at it today but I don't want to buy the whole magazine only to read this one article.

    Keep on 'jamming!

BTW: I AM STILL LOOKING FOR SOMEONE IN THE RHEIN-MAIN GEBIET (FRANKFURT, MAINZ, WIESBADEN) WHO CAN GIVE ME A RIDE TO ONE OF THE DT CONCERTS THIS NOVEMBER. IF I GO BY TRAIN, IT WILL COST ME *DM 132*!!! PLEASE! THERE MUST BE SOME DT FAN IN THIS AREA WITH A CAR!

Hey - hey ............. I know your really are into your Dream Theater and that's great - they are a great band! You didn't get my main point in the last e-mail I sent you and that was be patient, okay? Already I have received two responses to your e-mail and I'm sure the numbers will build. I also let you know that just because we didn't start playing it the week it was released, doesn't mean we will never play it. I'll also give you a hint .. not playing this song last week had nothing to do with our Music Director - that decision is totally up to our Program Director (the music director is his assistant). I'll share this e-mail with our Program Director and keep him posted on how many requests we get (e-mail requests are more powerful than phone request because the same psycho could be calling in all the time, making the same request). Like I said before I already have received a couple and I'll keep up on the tally. I'll also let him know of the CD Now ranking (we are not used to looking at this information, all our charts only record cd's already available.) With your interest and you encouraging others to rally behind this album, you should hear your song soon! ........

PS: Really your "Hitler Radio" comment is quite harsh, is that really called for?

You're right on both accounts: They are a great band; The numbers will build. Considering that you've never acknowledged the existence of the album, I'm still confident the requests will keep pouring in. Not bad for a CD that never been mentioned before. Never underestimate the power of the net. Once a few key news groups catch wind that the CD exists, It will only snowball until the gods or radio give it a deserving debut. The real problem is: The closet DT fans aren't aware the CD has even been recorded, let alone available to the media.

    >also let you know that just because we didn't start playing it the week it >was released, doesn't mean we will never play it. Fair enough.

    That's all I ask.

    >PS: Really your "Hitler Radio" comment is quite harsh, is that really called >for?

OK, you got me there.. I really only made the comment once. It appears the subject was carried on through the joys of e-mail client "forwarding" protocol. I apologize for the statement. Nothing would make me happier than having you prove me wrong.

Dream Theater fans are really a rabid bunch. That's because we know the level of talent and hard work go into each project. Ask ANY serious musician about DT, you're sure to get an earful. We don't love them because they have great hair or cute little dimples; We don't love them because they swear really cool; We love them because they put the music first.

There are SO many bands that will never get the popularity and recognition they deserve simply because that don't fit the mold the media has crafted. Don't let progressive metal fall through the cracks simply because it differs from the masses. Look at what MTV has done to metal. If taken to the next level, your station could be forced to play the "Backstreet Boys" just to compete. It's a horrible thought... But it could happen. That's why it's so important not to pigeon-hole yourself into playing only certain sub-categories of metal. Doing so could ultimately be the undoing of metal as we know it once the record company executives tally the sales figures.

I appreciate you taking the time to address this issue.

    I will be listening.. ;o)

Can anyone give me their thoughts on Energy's speakers, the C series? I was thinking of picking up some C4s or C6s... Also, the guy at World Wide Stereo recommended a Denon CD player that has 5 spots for CDs OR DVDs... Onkyo is coming out with something called the Integra that's supposed to do the same thing.. Any opinions on this equipment? I'm going to be buying a stereo system pretty soon and I wanted to get some ideas...

Also, I was listening to the Bose Lifestyle System... it's a surround sound package, speakers are really small, with a "woofer" unit on the floor to pump out all the midrange and bass. It doesn't sound too bad!

Well, I went out last night to watch Laundry & aperfectcircle play here in a small club.

Laundry features Tim "Herb" Alexander on drums/vox along with a guitarist and a Warr guitar player (similar to a Chapman Stick). Pretty cool music instrumentally speaking, sort of spacey/jamming stuff with a fairly heavy edge to it. Someone needs to tell Herb that he shouldn't be singing though, he wasn't super terrible, but it distracted from the music. A cool high point was their cover version of Pink Floyd's "Welcome To The Machine".

aperfectcircle features Maynard of Tool fame, along with Herb again, a guitarist (who writes all the music), another guitarist (from the band Enemy, who opened the whole show) and a female bass player (who laid down some cool bass riffage). The music was definately not Tool with its usual aggressive heaviness, but similar in dynamics, with Maynard really shining vocally. Should be something to check out once they record their CD. Right now they are just doing a limited tour, I think in the Southwest US only. A definate highlight of the show was when they played their spliced together cover song. What they did was take Ozzy's "Diary of a Madman" and spliced in The Cure's "Love Song", a seemingly weird thing to do, but it worked great. Flipping back and forth between verses from both, and also flipping back and forth between music from both (sometimes coinciding, sometimes not)... I'd like a recording of that...

You should listen for a day and see what makes them tic. http://www.hardradio.com/main.html Use the 56k link for use with Windows media Player 4.0 or higher. Great audio quality for a net feed. You should have your web page administrator look into a higher bandwidth feed for your live net playback. Real Audio really sucks for playback quality. Now get busy and tune in! Oh yeah... Light a fire under your program director and get DT some air play.

BTW, Thanks to this little programming idiosyncrasy you now have a new group of listeners patiently lurking on your web feed.

I think that this IS the most funny-friendly-full with warmth feeling-a sense of cosmological balance-a sense of family-etc-etc YTSEJAM digest I ever accepted! In other words: hey, the digest 5115 is REALLY entertaining! Keep up the good works folks! And Thank-you to all of you that makes me laughing out loud at 3.00 am...

Oh yeah; Sigit, THAT thing you mentioned about white light and stuff are sometimes dangerous to the stability of a logical mindframe of the modern human being... Astral travellers, eh? Or some Clairvoyance-in-the-making... Maybe you could add some flavours from Pink Floyd or The Doors; just an idea...

    Enough! I'm writing non-sense! It's almost 4.00 am...

Hey folks, A friend of mine at school introduced me to this cool new program called Napster. Basically the program allows every user to share his library of mp3 files with every other user using the program. Which means, the more members of the jam who use the program and share good mp3 shit....the more members of the jam can get other people's good mp3 shit! To really take full advantage of the program you need a cable or T1 connection. A modem just can't handle the bandwidth because people will be downloading your mp3s while you download others. So go to www.napster.com and get this program.

So I listened to the Home radio edit. Not over-impressed on the first 5 or so listens. I still want to break JP's wah-wah pedal. And I can't hear Jordan much until the end. If this was the only thing I knew about the album, I would not see it as a major shift away from the FII sound (not making a good or bad judgement on that statement, just an observation. Interpret it as you will)

Since I do have an idea of what else is coming (i'm sticking to the veil, so I don't know any info other than what's been officially released) I'm still very excited, but I think DT should have released a really heavy song as a single (if there is one) -- I just don't see Home getting a lot of airplay in today's radio market. It's becoming catchy melodically, but it doesn't have the crunch of the other singles, like "Burning My Soul" "Lie" or even "Pull Me Under"

    that's just my 2/5 of a nickel.

Well, I emailed my local (Detroit) rock station, 101.1 WRIF a few days ago requesting "Home". It appears they are being a little more receptive than AL's locals. I just mailed a simple request of the song to their DJ Doug Podell (jocks@wrif.com), and here's the response I got.....

"It's getting closer to air play - keep listening !! Doug"

]From what another Detroit prog-head (hi Jen!) told me, Doug is actually cool with Dream Theater, Savatage, Tiles (our local prog-rockers), and other cool music.

As far as Fates Warning goes, my fave album is definitely APSoG, followed by Perfect Symmetry, then Parallels is third. No Exit rocks EXCEPT for the fact that I'm not into the really high range singing (also the production is lacking).

    Adios amigos,

You've certainly hit the nail on the head with that particular observation...(name that quote)

Yngwie plays about 100000 notes on "Dream On" on the Aerosmith tribute album... And that's just on the intro... It's soooooooo out of place.

I remember early in his career when some guitar mag asked him about his playing and he said something like "Yes, I play a lot of fast notes, but I also play a lot of slow notes too..." And I thought, hmmm, he's way past the point of diminishing returns on that one... I think he crams in about 1200 slow notes per minute ;-0

Yes, I laugh about it, but I'm still impressed by it, too...

    Paul
