Thanks heaps to everyone who e-mailed me about my question concernong SDV.
Your info was all helpful. Damn that FAQ page makes awesome reading.
There are 2 main issues that concern me about DT now...
    1. Can't wait until the 26th (probably November here in Oz).
    2. MP, if you're reading this... Get your arse down here to Australia and
give us some shows!!!!! PLEAZE!!!! *LOL* We've been waiting for eternity!

For those that have heard home (the whole song), is it me didn't LTE do
parts of the song during their improvisational jam in concert. I have the
TLA show and there is a very similar riff. I could not remember when they
went into studio, but I think it was after the tour. Anyway, just wanted
to know if anyone else heard the same thing. Private email is fine.
    thanks.

That's where you are wrong. My claim can be validated by visiting CD Now and

The Dream Theater CD is in 38th place, and it hasn't even been released yet.
The sales figure is for pre-orders as well as already available material.

    >if that was all we did. Never hearing Black Sabbath, Metallica, AC/DC, or
    >any other great band unless they release a new song just a week or so ago?

I never requested you to stop playing the older material, just not as repetitively.
Look at the Metallica, AC/DC, Limp Biskit, and Megadeth count; Overplaying
material can be counterproductive. With the amount of coverage "Reload"
received, I never had to purchase the CD. I was sick of it without having to
line the pockets of the record company executives.

    >We listen to our listeners and take their requests - and honestly you may be
    >the only person that is asking us to play this new song. It also helps if

I know that to be false. I've had several people tell me they have called and
requested this material. As a matter of fact, someone else informed me why
the song was not being aired; He learned this info upon his request.

    >their label even has any interest in this band and their new cd. Be patient.

You may very well be right on this one... I guess if they had large tits, tight little
asses, and no talent whatsoever, KDWB would be playing them hourly.

    >We add new songs every week. Just because we didn't "add" Dream Theater
    >this week, doesn't mean we won't in the future.

I guess I don't understand why THIS album is being ignored when three previous
albums were supported by THIS station.

    >We hope you keep listening, but if this song means so much to you that you

    That's entirely up to you...

    >P.S. - See how nice we are? We even answered you despite your nasty "Hitler
    >Radio" comment, what's up with that anyway?

You can thank your music director for that one. My associate informed me that
that person single-handedly made the choice for the entire metro area.
Kinda sounds like Nazi radio programming to me.

    Original message:

    To whom it may concern:

A friend informed me of your stations "we play what WE think is good" programming
policy. I assumed this station played ALL new material within the stations format and
let the listening public decide what THEY wanted to hear. Request information was
compiled to aid in developing a play list for regular rotation.

It's been brought to my attention that your music director has single-handedly kept
the soon to be released (available in promo) Dream Theater CD from seeing the light of
day. Have you been to CD now and seen their top 100 sales list? Last I looked the DT
album was in the 30s. Yet YOU have decided that WE would not be interested in hearing
    this new material.

The twin Cities music scene is tainted enough without the added censorship on your
part. If KQRS had this same attitude in the late 60s and early 70s, bands like YES,
Jethro Tull, Rush, Deep purple, Black Sabbath, Uriah Heep, and Emerson Lake & Palmer
would have never been supported in the Twin Cities. I remember, I was a KQ listener back
then. Rather than bore us to death with the same stagnant crap you keep in regular
rotation, we'd like something new in the mix.

93-X has been my tuner's last line of defense. With no apparent support of the
Progressive - Prog/Metal genre in your programming future, my tuner may never grace the
signal path of my audio gear again... Home or car.

For those of you who are so anxious waiting for the new DT, you should spend your time listening to the new Vanden Plas album Far Off Grace. It is excellent, much like their past releases. And, IMHO, better than Fates Warning in many respects. (Does everyone agree that No Exit is much better than Parallels?)

P.S. It looks like the release date for the new DT in Japan is Oct. 27th. But, they often sell new albums as soon as they get them, a day or two in advance of the official release date.

What hapenned with the artwork of the new DT album on CDNOW? I went there five hours ago and there it was. The FULL album cover, and the tracklist. Now, there's just the tracklist. That remembered what the official elektra DT site (www.onceinalivetime.com) did with the tracklist.

Also, last time I checked, SFaM was #33 on the best-sellers of the rock category... That rules. This show how die-hard are the DT fans, to buy a

album without even knowing the tracklist. It could be a Backstreet boys cover album and we would still buy it :).

Why is that a good thing? I'd like to think of DT fans as being free thinkers. Buying a DT album full of BSB cover songs w/o seeing a tracklist or album cover wouldn't do much for my high opinion of them. But that's just me.

    Hi everyone,

after 2 years of constant listening I'll try to analyse why most of the Prog fans didn't like Falling Into Infinity that much. You should know that I love FII. It's different and you can't compare it to I&W or Awake which are from another demension.

Knowing that DT where under presure from Elektra (maiking hit single like PMU), I think the main problem with FII is that some of the songs are not Spectacular at least not for DT's standart. They are to ordinary

With every album (from WDADU to FII), DT have tried to make something new and different. And in every album you can hear influences from Band's which have influenced Dream Theater which isn't a bad thing.

But in FII, those influences are all over the place. I don't thing its a progression if you compose songs like "Anna Lee" or "You Not Me". DT are pupular for making the best music on earth. Great complex songs with great vocal harmonies and awesome lyrics. There are alot of other Artists who can compose or peforme "Anna Lee" at least as good as DT. It's not a DT song it's like a duet by Queen & Elton John. Nothing new.

Sting could be the composer for "Hollow Years". U2 the composer for "Speak To Me" (non album track) Extreme the composer for "Cover My Eyes-electric version" (another non album track). And Desmond Child has rouined "You Not Me" which sould be on Bon Jovi's up coming album.

Can you call these songs a progression to Awake ? Sorry, but I can't.

Anyway on FII there are some real great stuff like:

"New Millennium" (even when the chours are a rip off by U2's "Even Better Than the Real Thing") "Peruvian Skies" (A bit Metallica, a bit Pink Floyd - A great song) "Burning My Soul" (should have been the single hit for Elektra) "Hell's Kitchen" (fantastic) "Lines In The Sand" (A prog classic) "Take Away My Pain" (I love it) "Just Let Me Breathe" (killer groove) "Trial Of Tears" (Great, Great, Great)

I think DT should have taken "You Not Me" & "Anna Lee" out of the album and put "Where Are You Now" or a shorter version of "Rise The Knife" on FII.

Some people hate the production. I like it but the guitars sounding a bit too 90's.

With FII, Dream Theater have reached alot of new potential CD buyers ("fans"?!?!) but they've also lost alot of CD buyers (especialy metal fans).

Finally, I think that it's just a piont of view if you like FII or not.

Excuse me for my poor english. Only 1 week until I can hear the best album even made :-)

They were gonna do an EP followup to Nightfall continuing the story, but Hansi had hearing problems (which according to his doctors could have jeapordized the future of the band) and they cancelled the ep and all their shows. THey are, at the moment in the studio, last I heard, recording a whole new album. Also Hansi is doing a side project with Jon Schaffer (ICed Earth, but you should know that ;) )
