Seasons change, people change, artists change...*shrug* who gives a shit what's the reason for change.. if you like it buy it, if you don't .. well.. then just don't buy it :)
And if someone starts writing about buying the CD to support the artist again I'm gonna start puking. Nobody buys the CD just to support the artist. If you download the mp3's and then buy the album it's because you like the album and want the liners too, not cause you want an extra buck in John Musician's pocket. If you hate the album you WON'T buy the album no matter how big a fan you are.(if you'r filthy rich, it doesn't apply obviously :)

I would second this. I was just at Guitar Center 2 days ago playing with one of these. The 1010 has great sounds. A disproportionate amound ot synth/pads ... but that's what I really need it for, myself. Furthermore, it can utilize the JV expansion cards (I think only one ar a time, but what do you want for $400-450!). What I need to do is make sure that there are configuration options... like... you need to be able to group sounds, like piano and strings etc. Also, I'd recommend checking out what cards are available. The 1010 had less than 30 drum sounds, if I was playing with it right, and they were all orchestral... no kits. This means it can't replace a drum machine unless there are drum cards that do kits.
Korg has 2 or 3 half rack units that I remember as pleasant sounding, and Alesis had an inexpensive rack module too. Since I can't seem to do a sysex receive on my DR-5 to reload data to it, I am considering retiring it until I find someone with a manual to see if there are specific instructions one must follow to receive data. Maybe it's time to do all my sequencing on the computer, and just ditch the DR-5.

Yep, Jim might have sounded a bit rough in the singing department but they were still awesome, some of the songs just take me away.
I got into them about 10 years ago when I was about 18. There was this lad in our group who idolized Jim to the point of walking across bridges on the railing's whilst not partically stable in the head and singing strange lyrics about snakes at karaoke nights in the pub. He finally grew up and settled down. Jim's lyrics were excellent and some of the songs were long with extended solo's in them.
Being from the UK people expect you to like the Beatles but I always preferred the Doors.
I haven't listened to any Door for a while now, well I know what Im doing tonight before band practice.

For those who haven't been watching, Dream Theater is currently ranked #33 on CDNow's Top 100 selling CD's!!! They surpassed the Dixie Chicks, who had TWO albums in the Billboard 100 at the same time. This is a serious selling sign, and something for us all to rejoice in (more sales =3D happier group =3D more likely to release their next album sooner). My point is this= : if anyone's been holding out on pre-ordering or if you're unsure about whether this album will be lackluster or high-octane... just order it! I'm one of the embarrassed few who found the MP3's (just couldn't wait) and now I'm chomping at the bit to have the album itself in my hands. Hope this one comes crashing into a high spot on the billboard and surprises all those who thought rock was dead...

yes sir! i actually have Crystal Ship playing on my stereo right now... by the way, to any of you may think that AL's audiophile ravings are a bit eccentric, let me assure you that he speaks the truth. with his advice i bought some good-quality midfi gear this summer, and WOW, what a difference! particularly amazing when listening to prog is the clear distinction between the bass drum and the bass (Symphony X provides an excellent example). to anyone who finds some of Myung's work obscured in the DT mix, try listening on some quality gear--the difference is really something. i'm finding something new on every album that i listen to, such as the doubled vocals on the Doors album i'm listening to right now!

Because there is a lot of overhead involved, and most sales still happen in brick and mortar music stores. Record labels also do promotion, tour support, etc. You don't find too many groups without a label being able to do a world tour. It has more to do than just selling CDs.

Funny you should mention that.
Many years ago (okay, more like six) when I was in college, my roommate (and now best friend) officially introduced me to The Doors. My stereo at the time consisted of some cheap-ass Labtec speakers running off my Sony Discman player. Sound quality was marginal at best.
(I just thought I'd throw that out to make Al whimper and cringe. Anyway...)
I was told, in no uncertain terms, that a better stereo with "real bass" would make them sound better. He was right, it did. I've loved the band ever since.
Isn't it ironic.

To bring in Desmond Child was the label's choice (which shows that maybe they actually care). I would assume which songs are released as singles or as promos to radio stations are also the label's choice. Which didn't make much sense to release Hollow Years as the single when You Not Me got by far the most radio play off that album. I never heard Hollow Yeras on the radio.
Now, I never once heard YNM on the radio. I did hear "Burning my Soul" but never YNM or Hollow years. In my opinion Hollow years was the most commercial song off the album. It appears however, that DT has managed to sway away from the grasps of commercial east/west. The bringing in of Desmond Child, IMHO just shows that the label is interested only in getting DT to make them so cash. The label doesn't care about the band if they aren't "showing them the money!" ***

I still think it's a better song that most of what you'll hear on the radio. And I actually liked the album version better than the demo. And I liked it better than several other tracks on FII.

Replace "kicked" with "sucked" and I'll agree. ;) Bad vocals, bad instruments, and they couldn't write a decent song to save their lives, and I often wish someone had put them to that test. :)

You may want to rethink this. According to "the collegiate bible (Sardi's Bar Guide)": stuff of dark legend...drove painters and poets to madness, sterility, and death. Absinthe is illegal in many countries, including US, and Switz., the place of it's origin. Absinthe is a green-hued cordial, flavored with aniseed (licorice). A respectable, available, legal and NON-LETHAL substitute is Pernod.
