What's up everyone?
I had a cool moment today, so I thought I'd share it with you... I was listening to OIAL today and I had my stereo on "Shuffle", so the last song ended up being TTT... So after it ends, I turn on the TV (sick home on a Sunday, can't do much) and guess what? A Lynyrd Skynyrd concert was on, and they were playing "Freebird", original line-up and everything... :-)
Alright, maybe that is a little stupid, but it was kinda cool when it happened... heh

Why didn't everyone voice how bad-bad-naughty-naughty they thought this whole
bootleg guy was on the jam right after he solicited? Everyone waited until
Portnoy said "Shame!" and then the mimics cried out "Shame!" in reply. Do you
think Mike is going to give you a cookie or something? If you really are that
upset about it, why did you wait until now to seem all righteous?
I respected the bands wishes by not getting any mp3s or what have you, but im
not pompous enough to think that I am some kind of saint for not
participating in this whole mp3 trading buisness. I just would rather wait
until the album comes out.
Am I also the only one that thinks it is silly to censor the list of any SFaM
postings? Last time I checked, this was a DT mailing list. If you don't want
to risk hearing things about the new album... don't read Jams until the 26th.
Read a book. I could suggest a few.

When I go to set equalization on a graphic EQ, say in Winamp (I know, bad
quality issue, but this isn't about quality), what should the Spectrum
Analyzer look like? For example: I was listening to a friend's stream, in
which he happened to be playing TON (first time I'd heard it - I LOVE
it!). I started messing with the EQ, and got to a point where the
analyzer had all eq levels roughly even (e.g. the bass had the same levels
as the mid, which had the same levels as the highs). Is this what I want
it to look like? Obviously, I can't do a TRUE equalization, as I don't
have the equipment. But if I want my music to be true to the engineer's
design of the music, is that what I want it to do? Or should I just not
use an EQ at all, and THAT'S what the engineer wanted?
Just a question because I'm extremely curious about sound engineering and
stuff.

just I shorty thought of me:
when the person posted about bootlegging the new album here on the ytsejam, I saw nobody complaining about it (I could have missed some posts..). A few days later Mike posted how angry he was about it and suddenly a lot of people start to give apologies on behalf of the ystejam.
Isn't this a bit of hypocrisy?
Just a question you might give yourself. May be a lot of people only saw the bootlegging post when they read the mail of Mike, then this post can be neglected.

Relax, even though probably not the strongest literary opening in history= , the Troy McClure quote _was_ intentional. Besides, I'm much more hurt about the fact that someone questions my ability to write "Engish" :)
Really, veryone really needs to get a sense of humor and sarcasm here. I've even gotten several real enquiries about the Finnish bonus track of the heartfelt sixth-note rendition of "S=E4kkij=E4rven Polkka" played = on dog food can, tuned percussion and alp horn..

Don't know if any of you remember me, I've lurking for a while now, mainly as I've been working with my band, Area 54. - You might have seen us on the Ytsejammer Bands page on UACM.
We're not that progressive, (I'm the only DT fan in the band) but we're Melodic Metal/heavy rock, and I think a lot of DT fans would also enjoy us. I'm afraid there won't be any samples of our 1st album - out on Dream Catcher Records in January - on my site for a week or so, but if you're in the London / South East area of England and you fancy hearing us in person, we are playing this Saturday 16th Oct.

I can understand what you're implying about Steve's new album. I also believe that Passion & Warfare is Steve's greatest album to date, and as such he's going to have a hard time superceeding it! But then it was a paradigm shifting album. It was a milestone just like "Eruption" was a milestone in the development of modern guitar music.
The Ultra Zone, however, was an album that was to be part of the soon to be released Vai mega-box set. Thus it contains music that generally pushes the envelope of what casual Vaisters see as "Vai"! Out-takes, stuff that had been sitting on DATs, weird pieces etc. It has a heavy eastern influence (with various Hindu prayers sung in their original sanskrit) and eastern scales etc. But he's also included commercial songs as well as instrumentals, possibly in an attempt to increase sales in the far east (he needs to make a living like the rest of us!) . So it's a mish-mash of material that may have originally been viewed as music to pad out the box set or interest fanatics in search of the obscure.
So why has he released it? The box set release date has been put again and again as Steve succumbed to his perfectionist streak and I think he felt that his fans needed some music to "keep us going".
There are some fine instrumental tracks on it. There are tributes to Zappa and SRV ("Frank" and "Jibboom" respectively) as well as true Vaiisms (Fever Dream Mirrors to the Soul). I don't particularly enjoy the songs, but that's my taste. I'm sure others will love them.
Can Steve Vai produce another P&W? NO! It was a moment in TIME that cannot be recaptured, in the same way that DT will never produce another I&W. It's probably unreasonable to think they will.
In conclusion, Steve Vai seems produce music that satisfies his own artist integrity and hopes that his die hard fans enjoy this material too. There are bound to be tracks we don't like, but you can't satisfy all the people, all the time!
