Do we know yet whether or not it will have bonus tracks?

new DT, imported of course, maybe not until March 2000? ;-) Very nice
    people, you are!

No, please, go ahead, start discussing the cd at October 26th. We
Indonesians are used to being the last to get anything, anyway. I,
personally, wouldn't mind if the discussion starts even now, really.

I had a chance to listen to the new Queensryche. One listen is not enough to review the compositions, but one thing really struck me. What's up with the production? I missed HitNF all together, so maybe I wasn't prepared for this one. But this new recording seems to lack any subtlety at all. It's just one big wall of noise. It's like there's no "free space" there. They just saturated everything. I would have almost guessed that they had a couple of extra players; like an extra unmanned guitar and bass leaning against amps just making noise through every song.

Oh well, it's just my opinion, but it seems that Queensryche is in need of some professional recording/production help.

I've been looking for an original copy of the 1996 Fan Club CD for a while, and I haven't had much success in obtaining it (I always seem to just miss out on it on ebay...). ;o(

If anyone has one that they would be willing to part with, please E-mail me privately. I have lots of DT videos and other stuff that I'd be willing to trade, or we can try to work something else out.

See you at the Christmas shows (well, if they're on the East Coast, anyway... :o)!

Man! I just came back from Mike's clinic, and I can tell you it was sensational! He started off by playing New millennium and soloing for about ten minutes after that. Next on line was paradigm shift. then he played 12 minutes of a song called full moon rising from his new sideproject with Morse, Stolt and Trewavas (its full length is about 30 minutes!) Next came my favorite part. Mike had made up a medley of over 60 great drumparts from his favorite drummers. These included Bonham, Criss, Van Halen, Ulrich, Peart and many others (there were some from slayer, the knack and - believe it or not: bay city rollers!) in the end of the medley came parts from take the time, under a glass moon, and the classic beginning of 6.00. after that, the audience could choose between two tracks from LTE's second album. Another dimension won over biaxident. I didn't catch the last song's name, altough it sounded familiar, so if anyone has any info, please mail me! After the clinic Mike signed pictures and all the other stuff people had with them. For some reason I didn't bring any DT-related stuff, so I grabbed a beercoaster from the bar making mike wonder didn't I have anything better to sign.

Seeing him live for the first time, Mike seemed like a really cool guy, and also amused the audience by answering someone's cellphone, making the person at the other end of the line very confused.

There was only one thing on my mind as I walked away from this clinic. Mike Portnoy truly is the best drummer EVER!!!

Before that, I didn't have any clue as to what they were up to (SE's official webpage seems to be down too). It's too bad. Zenk is an awesome guitarist. I thought his style fit in really well with the kind of stuff that SE was doing at the time.

Then, a few days later (9/15), Steffen himself posted. Check it out.

    Hi!

Anyone interested in a copy(sorry, only tape.To copy it on CD doesn't work, don't ask me why)of the new DT CD?Only Europe!

---------------HELLO?!?!???!!! I cannot believe the absolute and utter disrespect shown by some of you "fans" during this waiting period..... To BLATENTLY bootleg an "official" release (especially under these conditions that we are *trying* to maintain) is just absolutely unbelievable!

I'm sorry I have even tried to create a "surprise" for you all.... Next time I will know better... or maybe I won't even allow ANY advance CD's at all....

I appreciate all of you that have tried to remain faithful to our requests until the 26th... I know it has been INCREASINGLY difficult... I think you guys will get rewarded by the real deal and have full satisfaction when you get the WHOLE PICTURE as we meant for it to be seen and heard on Oct. 26th

For those of you that could not wait until Xmas to open your presents, I hope you still go out and help the DT cause on the 26th, even though your surprise has been ruined by an inferior first impression that was not presented the way that we had wished...

Please pass this on to all the others that have looked under the tree as well... (especially all my "friends" at alt.music.dream-theater)

    Hey Jammers -

A while ago, I had made a request on the Jam for any software to create CD tray cards, and a couple of you were kind enough to either send me a zip of a program called "CD Label", I think, or at least point me to a website where I could download it. Well, I recently got myself a new machine, and unfortunately, I forgot to salvage that particular piece of software. If someone could please either point me to a website to download it, or send me a zip file via private e-mail, I would be eternally grateful. Or if not "CD Label", maybe there's something better out there??

And in other non-DT related news, I recently picked up the SMOKING new Dio tribute 2 CD set from Century Media. I highly recommend it! I rank it right up there along side the "Working Man" Rush tribute, "Nativity In Black" Sabbath tribute, and the 2 volume import Judas Priest tribute as the best tributes I've ever heard!! The Dio is awesome - it's a great mix of tunes from when he was in Rainbow, Sabbath, and even Elf, along with some of his classic solo stuff. Killer renditions from killer bands like Stratovarius, Fates Warning, and Blind Guardian. Plus, Century Media is selling it for some ridiculously low price of $12 or something like that. Check out their website (www.centurymedia.com) for further info.

That's about it... thanks in advance!!

The time shower is rolling, everything else is OK, the info tag ... but nothing happens, like you play it muted. Now, I noticed these mp3s are 224kbps encoded! Which is unorthodox rate, I never saw it 'till now. Can it be that SOME mp3 players can't read it??? I have WinAmp 2.03

Hey, Here's a little LTE news. I receive Modern Drummer magazine each month and have been since January. Well, I received a sample CD of a bunch of the best drummers for subscribing. Of course, MP was on the CD playing "Chris & Kevin's Excellent Adventure." I was kind of disappointed it wasn't a DT track but I would have been pissed if he would have been left off. Anyway, I wasn't a huge fan of any of the other drummers so I didn't listen to it since I have the LTE album. Well, when I finally heard the track, I almost fell off my chair. This song is just over 4 minutes. It has the same groove but a lot of different idiosyncrasies within the song. There is no vocals so no "excellent." It sounds like it was completely rewritten or just a longer version that they decided not to use. Anyway, it is great. Maybe it will be on an LTE B-sides album?!?! Hey, maybe they will add Metropolis Pt. 2. Ha! Ha! Also, in the latest issue, the cover story was on Chad Smith from RHCP. While I was reading the article, there was an ad for LTE2 in the margin. It reads: "A no-holds-barred, progressive supergroup jam featuring guitarist John Petrucci, drummer Mike Portnoy and keyboardist Jordan Rudess of Dream Theater, collaborating with renowned bassest/stick player Tony Levin of King Crimson/Peter Gabriel fame." It may not say much about the musical content but any plug in a popular magazine within the cover story is fine for me. By the way (listen up Skadz), I joined Creed's "discussion list" and boy does it suck. Definitely not set up very well. You can receive the list via digest form or by receiving a post from everyone who posts that day. Shit, the next day I got 87 e-mails! It sucked. I switched to the digest form and all the messages are responses from other posts. Re this and Re that. It was like talking to 16 year olds (no offense to our 16 year old jammers!). The conversation was so juvenile and 85% of the posts were personal and didn't belong on a list. I got board within 4 days. I dropped out. The posts weren't numbered or anything so it was hard to follow. Sorry Creed but no thanks. Jeez this is getting long. This waiting for the album is getting to me. Thanks for listening. See ya, Todd

    Hi all

I just got a copy of the Spock's Beard double album "Live At The Whisky And Nearfest" and I can only suggest that all fans of the bearded ones go out and add this little beauty to their CD collections as soon as humanly possible. The live atmosphere is captured wonderfully and goes to prove what a lot of us who have seen the band know - Spock's Beard is simply one of the best live bands around. Highlights include a great version of "The Light" and the now famous cover version of "Squonk" which shames Genesis. Available from Radiant Records RA-006.

stay safe and happy listening Neil Gallop (neil.gallop@softwareag.com) Currently playing: Queensryche - Promised Land

I have been coming to terms with the same conclusion over the past few days. I guess I still prefer DT's music, but, in 10 shows that I've seen, they've never performed it with half of the conviction that Spock's Beard did on Saturday. - Definately the best concert I've ever attended, and the loudest and longest call for a 2nd encore I've ever heard as well.

I only wish I had known of them before their 3rd album. If you've heard about the Beard here, but never got around to getting their stuff, don't waste any more time, -you'll regret it.
