    I admit it.

    I don't get it.

The new DT release is *JUST* an album. A lacquered CD with a pretty label
containing streams of digital data which you put in your home player kick
    back and enjoy.

True enough, it's music I enjoy *muchly*, but everyone is treating The CD
like it's the second coming of the Ace Ventura Happy Meal. This whole
experience mirrors some of the fanatical behavior I witnessed when Episode I
came out. I know people who spent *Months* avoiding printed news media, TV
and radio just so they could experience a completely virginal opinion of the
    movie.

I can't think of any other discussion group that hold their Mentors is such
high regard that they go to these extremes when a new release comes out (I
suppose a Backstreet fan qualifies, but that's an entirely different kettle
    of fish :)

Can't speak for all (and I won't - trust me :-) but y'all are *really*
starting to scare me. Stop it.

Well, you knew the title of the movie before you went in, right? Plus, look
how much the stupid movie sucked (not that this'll happen with the new DT) -
    I wish I had known more info about it, I wouldn't have wasted $7 + 1.5 hours
of my life sitting through that crap.

The buzz crreated by the Blair Witch was just hype, which is a lot different
from the veil of secrecy. When no info is being released, there'll be no
    expectations, thus no hype.

    That all.

That would be like swimming 3/4 across the Atlantic Ocean, getting tired and

Lifting the veil is a gradual process....
The album title is now able to be disclosed because it is available for
    pre-ordering.
The first single can now be disclosed because it will soon be available to
    hear on radio.....
The remaining details shall remain secretive until October 26th, unless there
is a reason like the above mentioned to force us to disclose further
    information....

When Star Wars or Eyes Wide Shut were released, it was George Lucas or
Stanley Kubrick's choice how much detail of the film they wanted disclosed
    before their release....

Believe me, there is a method for my madness and hopefully you will all
    appreciate it on October 26th.....

what exactly was it about this 4 letter word that gave away anything about
the album? If a person was ignorant about the CD title (as was SUPPOSED to
have been the case!), the word "Home" should impart no clues as to the
    album's content

and, if anyone is going off on some fantastic leap of imagination where "the
fact that the word "home" is a song title, and the word "home" is used in
the song metropolis, so it must mean met 2 is on the album,", well, that
just reminds me on my brilliant analysis that I came up with in the early
days on TNMS (rush list), that because the lyrics "activate the window and
watch the world go round" is in the song Prime Mover, and Power Windows was
the name of Rush's previous album, that Prime Mover MUST have been a
leftover song from the Power Windows sessions.

(For the Record, Prime Mover is one of my favorite rush songs. and i was
quickly dissuaded of that notion above.)

that's similar to someone thinking, upon hearing the title "To live forever"
for the first time, that it must be an eleven minute long epic/sequel, only
longer, because it has elements of learnin TO LIVE in the title, and the
word FOREVER....my god, it must be 50 minutes long!

In short, the new DT album is not (or at least shouldn't be) the be all and
end all focal point of ANYBODY's lives for the next six weeks and beyond,
and if it is, I'm sorry to hear that....

Kinda ironic that this was a few hours later than the first post...

So what are we allowed to talk about now (well, make that Oct 11)? I've heard the song (listening to it right now, actually), but not on the radio, can I talk about it after Oct 11? What if talking about this song implies something about other songs and the rest of the CD?

Anyone? (BTW, this is a _serious_ question...)

    Hey Guys,

I got the new YES CD yesterday, and all I can say is WOW...! They appear to be back in a big way, those of you who were uninspired by Open Your Eyes (this does not include me, I love it) do not be put off. Buy The Ladder now, lots of rich vocal harmonies, a good smattering of prog. The opener - "Homeworld" is just fantastic, and has a real classic Yes feel to it, and you just keep smiling for the whole 60+ mins. If you can get to see them definately do it, their set lists for their South American tour were very cool indeed, they start a US tour very soon - details on www.yesworld.com. Me and Wifey will be seeing them in Atlanta on 10/16 and I am just a little excited about it.

Oh, by the way there is a little snippet of the new DT from MP himself, on his site - see The Wire. Unfortunately I'm not allowed to mention it here, but I think I'm gonna be most pleased.

    Later,

Dave (a UK jammer - still in Alabama).

    Greetings ye 'jamanoids...

The current state of upset in the 'jam leads me to resurrect this. I wrote it before FII was released and got some positive feedback, so here it is again, updated -- my predictions for the new DT disc. :) (Don't boot me, Skadz, it's only a joke). :)

*** I'll tell you, I'm actually quite afeared of what'll happen if (not when, I refuse to say "when" until I actually SEE the new album in stores) DT ever releases the new album. I can see it now...

    1) Insane prog fans (or is that being redundant?) ytse-jam into stores clamoring for the new triple-CD DT album. Those store owners who were unlucky enough to under-order, or god forbid didn't order any copies, will be shot repeatedly, then hung, then burned in effigy. Minor riots will ensue over the final copy of the 3-CD set. The increased demand will result in DT being given their own aisle at every store in the nation.

    2) Newspapers, music magazines, television shows, and radio hosts will all go berserk trying to deal with the influx of info about the new album. Reviews will be written as the discs are playing, rushed into print, and promptly snapped up. The first review to be printed (beating out the Washington Post's review by mere seconds) will appear in the New York Times. This issue of the Times will set sales records nationwide and become a collector's nightmare.

    3) Musicians everywhere will require a change of clothing after listening to the new discs. A ripple is seen as thousands of guitarists sink to the floor weeping in absolute despair at hearing Petrucci's runs, swearing never to touch a guitar again; however, thousands more will pick up a guitar for the first time, swearing they've found new purpose in life. Petrucci 7-string models begin selling for 5-figure prices. Despite this, they sell out almost overnight. Similar incidents occur with every member of DT; the Kurzweil K2500, for example, will be found in stores as far away as Antarctica, since Jordan has mentioned it's his instrument of choice.

    4) Radio shows and TV stations devoted entirely to DT will spring up overnight. Existing playlists will be hurriedly scrapped as stations rearrange their formats to devote themselves to playing only DT music. The sudden appearance of DT on television and the radio will create millions more new fans, who will rush to stores, stripping the already-skeletal shelves completely bare of DT discs. EastWest will enlist Mike Bahr's help in printing new discs to keep up with the insane demand.

    5) The week leading up to the new release, Skadz will have utilized donations from DT-hungry jammers to rent Deep Blue in order to keep the list running despite the huge bandwidth cost. The day of the release, even Deep Blue shuts down momentarily with thousands of posts pouring in. Mailboxes all over the world fill in the twinkling of an eye, some so quickly that servers crash and businesses founder. Every jammer is forced to switch to digest mode so they can keep up. Gabbo begins tearing out his hair in chunks trying to update the FAQ, but new questions keep pouring in faster than he can answer them. He is forced to go on tour with DT and keep a constant recorder on the boyz 24-7 in order to answer everything. His wife Irene promptly goes on Jerry Springer (the topic: "I'm a DT Widow").

    6) DT's tour, billed as "The Dream of the World" tour, overloads TicketBastard months before tickets actually go on sale. Dream Ticket is created to handle DT tickets for the tour; soon the Dream Ticket outlet is a more recognizable national symbol than McDonald's. True DT fanatics (recognized by the DT members themselves, who at this point have become so godlike that they are actually omniscient) are given front row tickets to any show they desire. The longest amount of time any show goes without selling out is ten minutes, and that's the show at the new DT Theater (1,754,335,634 capacity, constructed in New York specially for DT shows). The tour continues for years without letting up, only breaking for DT to record the next 10-CD album, which they do in a frantic seven days.

Months later, a genuine spacecraft from another world will show up. The aliens' first words on arrival: "Who is this Dream Theater we hear so much about?" ***

    cheers, Phil

I wouldn't consider that selling out per se... dunno if royalties are paid for that type of thing.....

For example, on the last WWF pay-per-view, they played clips of two Fear Factory songs (Edgecrusher--which kicks major ass-- and Timelessness) as well as a System of a Down song ("Sugar")....They even put that MTV-ish blurb with song title, album title, record label in the corner..... Now to say that the two of those bands sold out....I dunno if that's the case. I would think maybe more advertising their material than selling the songs.

Then again, it *is* Metallica, and I wouldn't put anything past them....

Cool! I thought the "flamewar" was gonna last till the 25th :)

Now we can talk - for 20+ days :)))) - about the word "HOME" and all it's possible/probable/unlikely implications to:

    - song structure - melodic interplay - effect on hair length - the evolution of Kurzweil as the undipsuted heavyweight and genetically superior keyboard - which members of the band take which highways, secondary roads on the ride Home - does the studio begin to smell like home after you've lived there enough days/weeks? :)

I kid ya cuz I luv ya :)

Since you've all been begging for MY theory, sure why not:

It was all an experiment to help gauge potential record sales :) The amount of stress was determined by feeding TCP/IP packets into the A/I Stress Engine. Although we're not at liberty to discuss actual numbers at this time, suffice it to say, we're very please with the results. We think this one's gonna be a winner. NOW CALM THE FUCK DOWN BEFORE I FLIP OUT!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you and please drive through, we have another superband we'd like to get processed before noon....

Al: > It DOES matter. Digital CAN NOT produce a true sine wave; Analog can.

Fool! Of course it can....with infinite sampling, duh! This 20th century thinking is not going to get you invited to Christmas dinners, Al. Stop holding yerself back as the rest of approach (fall into?) infinity from the, uh, negative? :)))

Mark Healy: > it seems that we have some babies on board.

Remember those "Baby On Board" signs people put in rear windows. I thought it'd be cool to reintroduce that, but instead have an infant hanging 10 on a surfboard :)

    buh bye

No matter how crazy this sound, I think it's the BEST idea around! :) Obviously the stupidites won't stop, and there's nothing else talked about than this ... There still will be folks who will be complaining WHY do they have to put SPOILERS in the subject, there will still be some newbie who'll spil everything out few days before 26-th and he's gonna get public crucifiction ...

I would go for shutting down, in case someone cared.

Metallica will be on WCW:Mayem the Music out Oct.16th I believe, with Slayer (oh god, they sold out too, even thought every Slayer album sounds exactly like the previous) Megadeth , ICP, who happen to have gotten a pink slip from WCW, Kid Rock and a few other bands, along with your favorite wrestler theme songs.

Man, this is getting ridiculus. (Should I be suprised? This is the Ytsejam...) Look, the whole point of the Veil was for DT to have a little bit of control over the dissemination. What they didn't want was someone who had it early doing track by track reviews of the CD. If what I know is true, it sounds like a CD that needs to be listened in it's entirety to be enjoyed to it's fullest.

I think many people on this list, including Countermarsh, are missing the point. One guy posting a track name isn't the end of the world. It doesn't give away what it sounds like, it isn't a track listing. No biggie to me...

As for Andrew, I don't get you man. First, you flame a guy who had a name of a song deep in his message and didn't have 'spoiler' in the heading (tho I think that would have been misleading.), making arguments that you didn't want to know anything about the CD, then Bredius makes the official post (with the song title in the header.), and you don't have a problem with that? Then what the hell was all of that bitching for? I kinda thought you were making a big deal out of nothing, and now you just proved it.
