Well, both of you are wrong.
There IS a difference. CDs are sampled at 44.1 kHz. So you have 44100
16 bit values for each channel every second. If you take these 44100
samples you got from the CD and change the bitrate so that you have
to make 48000 samples out of it, you WILL lose data quality.
Either you fill the missing data with "nothing" (please define
nothing. Zero? Boy, that would *crack*), just doubling every x-th
data word, or you interpolate, try to *guess* what value could have
been there if it were originally sampled at 48 kHz.
Seems as you never tried the example I used. Try to resize a 441
pixel wide picture to 480 pixels. Either it looks uneven, because
some pixels are simply doubled, or it looks blurred, because the
software used interpolation.
Same thing, just visible instead of audible.
And you can't *sample* a CD at 48kHz, because it's already digital.
You could gain quality by sampling an analog source to a DAT with
48kHz instead of 44.1kHz, but you will lose quality by forcing the
software to resample the 44.1kHz CDDA-data to 48kHz.
Sigh. Hope that's clearer now...

I agree. he was just comparing it with resizing an image. There is interpolation when resizing and image and taking a smaller image and enlarging it does distort the image. later.

Well shiver me castle walls with a few furry bats ....
Just look at all the Type O fans emerging from their coffins. Myself I love Peter's deep dark voice and the way he uses Gregorian Chant to enhance it in places. Great contrast to JLB, they should duet some time! JLB's voice is good to wake up with in the morning whereas I like falling asleep to Mr Steele's tones.
Type O have always been in favour of playing long songs, some with more complicated arrangements and time changes. This in itself would earn them the definition of prog with some listeners.
Gothic prog? Have we discovered a new category of music?

The music is a blend of The Beatles, Dream Theatre, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Everything But The Girl, Genesis, IQ, Jethro Tull, Kink Crimson, Marillion, Paul McCartney, Pink Floyd, The Police, Ritual, Rush, Santana, Spock's Beard, Steely Dan, Talking Heads and Yes.
Their composing skills are very good and the CD contains such songs as: * the opening "Endless Calling" * the catchy and varied "I Get Lost" * the folky "Lornadoone" * the ballad "She Walked Out The Door" * the intriguing "Assurance" * the commercial "Take It Higher" * the instrumental "Double Bass" * the acoustic and poppy "Just A Girl" * "Meteor" * "Razor" * The closing epic "Where I Belong".
All in all it's a very strong debut although the production leaves a little to wish for. Recommended!

Here in NY, local metal show "Finger's Metal Shop" on WBAB has played a song from it entitled "Home." I don't know if this is the "official" first single, but my source at WBAB, "Brenda," has informed me that the CD will be added to most station's play lists next week. On air, "Fingers" stated that the song is his daughter's favorite new song. As for my opinion, the song is KILLER, and this album will be well worth the wait. *scarred*

i am really hoping you were kidding. i dont remember what stance you';ve taken on this before, so i cant tell for sure. but if youre serious, god damn, man. it has been released to radio. this means that DT is ok with releasing this (well ok i imagine maybe elektra made them release a single but that track wouldnt be the best to release if you HAD to release one, but i wont say anymore to avoid offending you). i agree as far as keeping the secrecy and not spoiling, but once the band releases one of the tracks, i think its ok to at least hear the song title. i mean jesus, its like theyve created a monster... then once they start letting the info out the fans refuse to listen to it cuz they are carrying on the supposed will of their chosen deity... reminds me of the scene with the gourd and the shoe in monty python's Life of Brian :) of course, if you were kidding, then i guess ill look dumb in front of thousands of people. but hey, thats ok, i'm used to it. :) moo.

Well to be fair, it wasn't the biggest spoiler he could've sent. He could've described how the music sounded. All we know is the title of a song. I agree, that guy should be banned, but it's not a big disaester. That's the only bit of news I know about the album so far. Oh yeah, props to you for deleting the song title in your reply. I remember not too long ago when someone bitched about spoilers, but included it in his reply message. What was the freaking point in that?!? Good work.

I hope DT take the time (heh heh) to make a quality video. Not to dump on them, but their videos (that I've seen) up to know have been kinda lacking. But I agree, MTV played Sevendust, System Of A Down, Nine Inch Nails, Gwar and who the hell knows what else. I bet they've gotten some pretty solid ratings out of this. I hope so anyway, to kinda send a hint to the corporate stuffed suits that run that station. Hope they made money and plan another one soon. Pretty good weekend, all things considered-- new Tori album, the Matrix on video, Stigmata soundtrack, MTV's rock weekend. Life is good.

Just because an album gets airtime on a radio station does NOT mean that the band has OK'd it. A DJ can play an unreleased album without the permission of the band - because that's what promo copies are about, so that DJs and the like can hear them.
But regardless of whether or not DT has OK'd playing the album on the radio (which I seriously doubt), the rule simply said "no information or even rumors about the new album until the release date - October 26th." This means that even if there IS something done on the radio, for GOD'S SAKE, don't talk about it here! The only way I'd feel that talking about the album's contents was okay was if Mike himself sent a message to us saying, "Okay, guys, you've been waiting long enough" or something and let us in on info himself.
Until then, regardless of what happened in real life, on the 'jam we still aren't allowed to talk about it. He could have just told us that a DJ played a song from the new album and he loved it. How hard is that to do? He didn't HAVE to tell us the title of the song.
